We believe there’s a time and season for everything under the MOON! Have you ever wondered how when it’s the full moon you feel like there’s something different? The truth is, each money phase creates for you a different energy. Just like the moon can affect the tides of the sea, it can also affect you, since we are mostly liquid as human beings. Each night, we receive a different amount of light given off from the moon, according to its ever-changing relationship with the Sun. These phases have their own unique characteristic which influence all life on earth. Discover how the moon’s energy can impact your life for 2015!

In the following parts, we shall specifically explore its relation to astronomy and how it affects our day-to-day living. There have been numerous accounts that the moon, indeed, has effects on how we live our lives. Ever wondered why a lot of people say that many ‘crazy’ things happen during the full moon? Try to check your local area’s police logs as well and see patterns of rising number of crimes when the moon is full. You might be surprised on what you will discover! And it’s not just us humans that are affected by the different phases of the moon! Even plants and animals are affected by it. Although some scientific studies try to negate such assumptions, theories and legends are still very much persistent in trying to prove otherwise.

The Moon is considered to be the nearest of all the celestial bodies to us, the Earth. And that raised curiosity since the early days. Aside from providing us the natural source of light during nighttime, the moon still has a lot of things to give us.The moon, also called as the ruler of the tides, can also be pertained to as the ruler of our emotions. A lot of people have claimed that the moon gives us certain levels of energies that, in turn, affect our way of thinking, behavior, and mood—although scientific studies say otherwise. It is one of those long-standing debates. Moreover, the moon is also a goddess. It has close relations with the feminine energy. It symbolizes the relationship between the woman and the child. It relates to a woman’s role as the one who nurtures.

“…this is the time when there is no solar reflection, leaving the lunar face

in darkness. The dark lasts about three days before the new crescent appears.”

If you remember your science classes from way back, we now know that the Moon orbits around the Earth, the same way the Earth revolves around the Sun. The Dark Moon phase, also referred to as the Black Moon or the Lunar Apogee, pertains to the point when the moon is farthest from the earth. Contrary to the ‘super moons’, when the moon is at its brightest, the dark moon is considered to be ‘super elusive’.

This period must not be confused with the New Moon. They may seem similar, but they are not. The latter begins with the conjunction of the Sun and the Moon; whereas the former remains until the crescent shows up. Further, the dark moon usually lasts around 3 days. The first day of the dark moon cycle is also known as the Old Moon. It is said to be the best time to discard things that you wish to eliminate totally. Ultimately, it is also not advisable to purge new relationships or do ventures at this point. The second day of the cycle is referred to as the Seed Moon. It focuses on the inception and renewal—like a butterfly awaiting its release from the cocoon. Do not make decisions during this day.And lastly, the third day is known by many names—New Moon, Crescent Moon, or Waxing Moon. Either way, it is symbolized by the appearance of the crescent, as mentioned earlier. It is a day of new beginnings—thus it is advisable to plant seeds, begin new projects, and foster projects and partnerships during this period. The dark moon period is also described as “private, intimate, richly renewing, and full of depth”. Also referred to as the most physiologically powerful time, the dark moon pulls us deeper into our beings—it is at this moment when it is best to reflect and listen to what our inner beings say to us. This is the time when we are most receptive to our inner selves.Just be careful not to be confused for one might appear or feel weary and tired, but it is in fact, the time where one recuperates—think of the plants during the winter solstice waiting for their bloom come spring.

moon precedes the new moon, thus giving us enough time to reflect and think about our goals. Preparation is the key. Knowing exactly what one wants to do in life may be easy for some, but for others it is a very daunting task. Make use of the days leading to the new moon for such reflections. Be specific as much as you can. As mentioned earlier, there are a lot of ways on how we will be able to let the universe know of our intentions. But a lot of new moon rituals involve the use of candles to symbolize the beginning. But this doesn’t really matter and it is very subjective. Some simply light a candle, while others do it complete with elaborate objects that symbolize their goals. There are some who write them down and meditate on them. There is no proof on what is the best new moon ritual out there. But one thing is for sure—make your intentions be as clear as possible. Align and prepare yourself with the goals that you set.

Following the cycles of the moon assures us that we always have the chance to start again, and renew our vows and goals to the universe. It is a rhythm that we may not understand fully, but we acknowledge its presence. If dark moon is for the moment of waiting, and full moons are for taking action and celebrating the fruits of one’s efforts, new moon is a point where one speaks out all of his goals and aspirations.New moons are said to be the best time to set one’s goal for the things you would like to start on. It is the point where the Sun and Moon are aligned under the same zodiac sign, thus it is charged with concentrated energies. It signals symbolic portal for new beginnings. Over the years, people developed a lot of ways to let the universe know of our desire to partake to new road.Like with any other project, I’m pretty sure all of us have been involved with one—one way or another, it all starts with planning. You set your goals, contemplate, and execute. The dark

at the same time, it may erupt into immaturity. One’s insecurities may also tend to surface during this moment. And as a coping mechanism, one may put up layers of defensive walls to create that feeling of security. One also tends to blame others for misfortunes, instead of acting upon one’s self to fix or attend to whatever it is that needs his attention. At this point, the greatest enemy is not found outside that protective shield, but rather inside—ourselves. When fear hits you during this period, have a deal with yourself that you will do a courageous act and do it consciously. Do not let fear and immaturity rule over. Do not be overwhelmed by the ghosts of the past—may it be an old habit that you’ve decided to let go of, relationship conflicts, etc. Decide to move forward and stick to goals that you’ve declared during the new moon.

The quarter phases are considered to be the high-tension periods of the moon phases. Full moons may be considered as the peak of erratic behaviors, but the quarters, especially the first and last, are dubbed as the ‘crisis’ times. The word crisis doesn’t imply a positive meaning, but a tentative and most likely an unsafe one. The quarter moons carry an idea of dualism, that outcomes may either be good or bad. One may notice that the number of tragedies rise during the quarter phases. But one must not be easily affected by this entire negative connotation. Remember, it can go either way. While one may be on the negative end of the spectrum, it may be the opposite on the other end.The first quarter, as it precedes the planning and announcement of the intentions, can be related to that of a child. It can be inspiring and

born under this phase are said to be great problem solvers. They have the vision to see things through the hardships that’s currently in front of their faces. And since this is a transition phase, it is during this period that one’s patience is tested. One may get too itchy to try something new, to revise, adjust, and change battle plans because nothings seems to happen. But for all we know, the great reveal of the results of the efforts made shall be made once the full moon enters. The best thing that we could do during this transition period is to be more observant and critical. Take down notes and keep in mind the things that we might want to improve and work on later. While the gibbous moon phase asks a lot from us, it also promises us a lot. But more than likely, it’s the waiting that we have to endure first—and still try to make it productive.

In astronomy, the term gibbous refers to a celestial body that is almost lit up. When we try to look at the moon, it may seem full but it is not yet full. It is halfway between the first quarter and the full moon—a transitional period.Gibbous moon equates to tension. These days may seem to be slow and ‘chill’ but for some reason, one might feel like they’re walking on thin ice. Perhaps this takes cue also on the Sun-Moon aspect—at this period, that just lack a nice aspect. It might always seem to feel like we are in the middle of a journey and it’s hard to go back and very tough to move forward as well.People born under the gibbous moon might have a difficult childhood. They may also grow to be worriers and ‘always on the edge’ type. These traits can be attributed as well to the discord of Sun-Moon.But worry not, the gibbous moon phase does not only bring negative things—it also has its wins. People

This is the most awaited moment—the reveal of the things that we have been preparing and waiting for. Compared to the effects of the New Moon that are more directed towards the outward change, the Full Moon effects are geared towards the inside—it is something personal and emotional at the same time.Full moons are also a time of culmination. It signals the closing of chapters and brings finality to events. And since moon phases are also cycles, it is best to close and tie things up during this point so that come the next new moon, you are ready to take up another challenge. If you were not able to close the previous one during this full moon, more likely the next month would be chaotic.

Astronomically speaking, the full moon phase means that the Moon and the Sun are in direct opposite sides of the Earth. It signals the point in time where ‘flowers must emerge’—a revelation. This symbolism also relates to the Summer Solstice, a period of maximum light in the cycle of seasons. The full moon is also blamed for the increased number of outbreaks and ‘wild’ behaviors of people. Although there are a lot of studies and observations made to prove or disprove this theory, no one can still verify. But it may seem unfair to blame the moon for the increased rowdy behavior since the full moon also means that it’s a time to celebrate!

and help them transform as well.People born under the disseminating moon are most likely the enthusiastic type. Hang out long enough with them and you’ll notice that their eyes are fired up every time they talk about something that they are passionate about—that’s the energy of the disseminating moon.At this point, it is also suggested that one takes time to review and correct mistakes that were revealed during the full moon. Get rid of conflicts by making amendments. Remove negativity and go away from bad habits. Prepare yourself for the coming turn of the cycle.

The Disseminating Moon appears three to four days after the Full Moon. During this phase, the moon is already halfway through the Full Moon and the Last Quarter Moon—another transition period. In the seasonal cycle, this period is also referred to as the cross-quarter holiday of Lamas, which is usually celebrated around the 1st of August during the mid-way of Summer Solstice and Fall Equinox. It is during this period that we are urged to share the light that was shed to us by full moon, which is now slowly waning. It is a high time for our consciousness and it is best if we are active in seeking others—to help them

a turn of event. During the quarter moons, such as this one, it gives us an overview on what to do next since this phase provides us a look on both sides of the conflicting parties. What you felt during the first quarter might be a bit similar to what you’re going to feel at this point—there is tension. The challenge here is to find the right energy so you won’t get stuck with the feeling of uncertainty. There is also a need to cleanse our perception during this point in order for us be ready for the coming of the new moon—attune yourself to your surroundings.

Dana’s words on the quarters is perfect in terms of describing how one should feel and act during this period. This is still a transitory part where we are done with the celebrations of the full moon (and yet we still feel the hype of it) and we need to ready ourselves for our ‘climb’ towards the new moon—which signals a new beginning.Others may take some time warming up to this phase, thus the feeling of unsteadiness might be felt strongly. The moon phases are there to help us decide on which steps to take next. Just like full moons signal a change in season, every moon phase signals

“Quarters neither buoy us with the fresh-start feel of a New Moon, nor do they dazzle us with Full-Moon-style

illuminations. At the First and Last Quarter Moons, we’re at a half-way point in the waxing and waning

hemi-cycles. The Moon is half-lit, which means the Sun and Moon are at the right angles, in the astrological relationship known as a ‘square’. This is no resting

place. Squares mean change—or you’ll fall out of the rhythm with a turning world.” – Dana Gerhardt

balsamics are gifted with a way to see the future—in fact, they are usually confused compared to the rest of us. Perhaps it is the concentrated energy that is with them that helps them propel farther. They also have great instincts. They have strong gut-feels, especially for themselves. It is like a deeper type of intelligence.Moon phases are often times related to a woman’s life and the balsamic period can be easily related to that of an old woman. An old woman is a treasure because of her intelligence. This knowledge came from years of experience—from overcoming a lot of hurdles in life. It is also a time to feel free from the anxieties because like the old woman, she is now free from the responsibilities of child-bearing—she can now choose which life she wants to live.

In the planting cycle, the Balsamic Moon (also called the Dark Moon) signals the maturation of the seed while the rest of plant dies. All of the plant’s energy is concentrated into this seed—which in turn should be prepared for the coming of the next cycle. The Balsamic Moon phase is the transitioning of the last quarter moon towards the new moon. Just like the seed, we also need to prepare ourselves and focus on the coming of a new beginning—a fresh opportunity to do something new. We are at the threshold of an end and beginning of another era. Physical energy may be low but the psychic energy is high.People born under the balsamic moon have a very strong orientation towards the future. Most of the time, they are the ones who are ahead of everyone else. But this does not translate that
