Time for change!

• 55% of higher education institutions in 2010 were using Moodle in the UK (up from 8% in 2005)

• Currently 40% HE institutions are reviewing their current VLE system

• The average timescale to implement a new VLE system is 18 months

Reflections

Positives:

• Automatic course creation and student enrolments

• Integration with third party systems (TurnItIn, Big Blue Button, Mahara etc.)

Negatives:

• An inconsistent learning experience for the students

• Moodle modules application needs to be refined

Moving forward

• Upgrading to Moodle 2 in the summer 2011

• Integrating the Moodle grade book with SITs (student records system)

• Deeper integration with Mahara

• Roll-out the audio recording to all faculties
