By default, the Moodle gradebook displays the category totals and final grade (or course total)

which is viewable to students. Faculty can modify the gradebook to show students all graded

assignments except the category total and final course grade.

To se t the g radebook t o h ide the f ina l g rade fo r s tuden t s :

1. From your course under the Administration menu, clickthe Grades icon.

2. Click on the Choose an act i on drop-down menu.

3. Scroll down and select My Pre fe rences > Graderrepo r t .

4. From the grader reportpreferences window under the

Show/hide toggles section,

set the Sh o w s ho w / h i de

icons drop-down option to

Yes .

5. Scroll down to the bottom of the grader report preferences window and click .6. The grader report view should appear (see example below). If

you do not see the grader report view, click Choose an

act ion and select V ie w > Gr a d er r e po r t .

7. Click the Tu rn Ed i t i ng On button located in the upper right corner.8. The editing icons and show/hide toggle buttons (open eye icon) should appear within the

grader report.

9. Hide the categorytotals within the

gradebook by

clicking the open

eye icons in the

Ca tego ry t o t a l

column next to eachstudent.

The open eye icon

will close to indicate

the category total is

now hidden for each

student. Repeat this

step for all category

totals.

Not e : Do n ot click the open eye icon located directly under the Ca t ego ry t o t a l . This will

hide the entire category along with the graded assignments from student view.

10. Hide the grades in the

course total column by

clicking the open eye

icons for each student to

close them.

11. Click when complete.

12. Click the Tu rn ed i t i ng o f f button in the upper right corner.

13. In the grader report view, the students category and course totals (i.e. final grades) will

be grayed out indicating they are hidden from student view. Faculty can view the grayed

out category and course totals from their grader report view but students are unable to

see these totals from their end.
