WHAT ARE HUMICS? Humic substances can be broken down into humic acid and fulvic acid. Humic acid is a principal component of humic substances. Humic substances are the major organic constituents of soil (humus), peat and coal. They are also found in upland streams, lakes, and ocean water. Humic substances are produced by the decomposition of organic matter.

HOW CAN HUMICS HELP ME TO INCREASE MY YIELD?Humics stimulate microbial activity in soil, help break up compacted soil, assist in transferring micronutrients from the soil to the plant, enhance water retention, increase seed germination, and improve the breakdown of plant residue.

Monty’s Plant & Soil Products continue to be on the cutting edge of soil health, researching new ways to improve the symbiotic relationship between the plant and the soil surrounding it. As the importance and awareness of healthy soils has grown around the world, Monty’s and its employees have taken an active role on a global level. Through Soil Renaissance, an initiative of the Farm Foundation and The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation, Monty’s works to bring attention to the critical role of soil health in the challenge of feeding the world’s population – predicted to be 9 billion people by the year 2050.

Monty’s, and other entities involved in the Soil Renaissance, believe that healthy soils contribute to carbon sequestration, cleaner air and water and productive crops. Thus, the goal of the Soil Renaissance, and it’s Board, is to both create awareness and educate individuals on the importance of soil health and how healthier soil can assist the world in feeding the growing population.

Currently, two of Monty’s team members have been invited by the Soil Renaissance to assist in developing soil health standards and informing and educating the public on soil health. Dennis Stephens, President of Monty’s Plant Food, has served on the Soil Renaissance Thought Leader board since October, 2014 and Joe Dedman, Vice President of Agronomy, was named to the Soil Renaissance Research Working Group in February, 2015.

Applying 1 to 2 quarts each of Microhance, Sulfur 15, and/or K28 can provide additional crop quality, response, and yield.

Comments: If applying multiple cover sprays of chemical, insecticide, or fungicide, the highest recommended rate of 2 quarts can be divided between applications; i.e. foliar feed more often as opposed to all at once. (1 quart applied twice versus 2 quarts applied once).

When applying liquid fertilizer solutions other than Monty’s, we suggest adding Monty’s Liquid Carbon at 1-2 quarts per acre to help buffer the salt index.

The use of Nanoboost at 2-4 ounces/acre can help with better penetration of your chemicals.
