CAMBRIDGE SCHOOL, NOIDA MONTHLY REPORT FOR NOVEMBER 2018 SCHOOL EVENTS ROBOTICS CLASSES FOR VI TO VIII On 3 rd November, 2018, Robotics classes commenced with the inauguration by Dr. Kalyani Roy, Secretary SAE, in the ATL Lab of Cambridge School, Noida. Dr. Roy gave away kits to thirteen students who had enrolled for the classes. Ms. Mehak, the Robotics Trainer felicitated Dr. Roy with a memento, in the presence of members of the Managing Committee. SCHOOL EVENTS

ROBOTICS CLASSES FOR VI TO VIII

On 3rd November, 2018, Robotics classes commenced with the inauguration by Dr. Kalyani Roy,

Secretary SAE, in the ATL Lab of Cambridge School, Noida. Dr. Roy gave away kits to thirteen

students who had enrolled for the classes. Ms. Mehak, the Robotics Trainer felicitated Dr. Roy

with a memento, in the presence of members of the Managing Committee. Dr. Roy appreciated

the students for their enthusiasm their parents for encouraging their wards to join Robotics which

is the future of the century.

The second session was conducted on 16th November, 2018 where the students made horizontal

soccer robots and learned about the concepts of friction, speed and acceleration.

The third session was conducted on 17th November, 2018 on the day of PTM when students made

vertical robots and bulldozer robot. They learned to use various components of their kit and their

applications in various ways. These classes will continue as per the schedule till February 2019.

CHILDREN’S DAY As part of Children's Day celebration on 14th November, 2018, various activities were conducted to

mark the occasion. A painting competition on the topic Childhood was conducted for Class VI;

Poster Making and Slogan Writing competition on the topic Children and the World for Class IX

and Newspaper Designing competition on World of my Dreams was conducted for Class X. Class

XI participated in a Tug of war and flat race. Educational trips were organised for Classes VI, VIII

and XII. Students were gifted with Reynolds ball point pens sponsored by The Hindustan Times.

The prizes for the various events were sponsored by The Times of India. The day ended with a

special assembly conducted by teachers followed by prize distribution for the various events.

Children at play

INTERACT CLUB

On 16th November, 2018 a group of students of Class IX who are members of the Interact Club,

Cambridge School, Noida visited Indira Market, located close to the school and distributed paper

bags made by them to the street vendors. This was an attempt made by students to create

awareness among the vendors to use eco-friendly options and to discontinue the use of plastic

bags.

SPIC MACAY

Cambridge School, Noida under the aegis of SPICMACAY, hosted a repertoire of Indian Classical

Vocal Music by the renowned vocalist Ms. Sunada Sharma on 19th November, 2018 in the Roma

Deb Auditorium. Ms Sharma was accompanied by Pundit Vinod Lele on the Tabla and Ustad

Zamir Khan on the Harmonium. The programme commenced with the auspicious lighting of the

lamp by Ms. Sunanda Sharma and her accompanying artistes, along with Principal, Ms. Dipannita

Mondal and members of the Management Committee. It was attended by staff and students of

Cambridge School, Noida and sister schools.

Ms. Sunanda Sharma whose forte lies in Khayal, Tappa, Thumri, Dadra Chaiti brought to the fore

the depth and beauty of her renditions through her mellifluous voice. Her unique style of being

able to connect and build a rapport with the audience made the session a grand success. This

was followed by an interactive session with the students.

The event was graced by Dr Kalyani Roy, Secretary SAE, Col Dev Dutt Choudhury, Chairman

ERC, Principal, Ms. Dipannita Mondal and distinguished Members of the Management Committee.

Musical Rhapsody

CULTURAL INTER-SCHOOL FESTIVAL: IMAGE

Cambridge School, Noida organised IMAGE- a two day festival of Inter-School Competitions in

Literary, Art and Cultural activities on the theme ‘The Quest : Anveshan’

Students from nearly 30 prestigious schools of Noida and NCR participated in the two day

extravaganza on 28th and 29th November, 2018. IMAGE, the annual festival of Cambridge School,

Noida is being held with great zeal and gusto for the last twenty nine years where a plethora of

activities are held over two days.

This year the occasion was graced by the renowned vocalist Pundit Deepak Chatterjee Rasikrang

as the Chief Guest on 28th November, 2018, and the eminent Kathak danseuse, Smt. Uma

Sharma, Padma Bhushan on 29th November, 2018. Various competitions such as Battle of Wits,

Laya Samvaad, Swar Saadhna, Raga Mala, Dark Room, The Fountainhead: Creative Writing in

Hindi and English, Soch: On the spot Music Composition, Sangam: A competition of Music and

Dance, Radio Buzz, Digital Symposia, French Song, Newspaper Supplement Designing, Nukkad

Natak, Indiqa: India Quiz, Think Tank, Futuristic Architecture were conducted over two days. Each

competition was adjudged by a panel of eminent judges. Somerville School, Noida was declared

the overall winner of the A. C. Deb Memorial rolling trophy for their enthusiastic and commendable

performance.

Dr. Kalyani Roy, Secretary, Society for the Advancement of Education and other School

Management Committee members graced the occasion.

WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARS FOR STUDENTS

THEATRE IN EDUCATION: BUSINESS STUDIES

Theatre in Education on the topic Small Business was conducted by the students of class XI A

and B (Commerce sections) on 13thNovember, 2018 in the Roma Deb auditorium at Cambridge

School, Noida. Principal Ms. Dipannita Mondal, Col Choudhury, Ms. Nalin Anju and Ms. Nandita

Sinha Roy witnessed the same. The efforts of the students were appreciated by one and all.

It was not only academically enriching but it also helped the students in the development of

creativity, team work, confidence building and communication skills.

PRESENTATION ON SWOT ANALYSIS Presentation on SWOT Analysis was hosted by the Commerce department of Cambridge

Srinivaspuri on 16thNovember, 2018 which was attended by three students of Class XI of

Cambridge School, Noida along with Ms. Preeti Sharma. The presentation revolved around case

studies on Bakey's, Sabyasachi and Amul wherein Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and

Threats were discussed in individual case studies.

The session was quite engrossing and enriching and helped the students in better understanding

of the concept.

CALLIGRAPHY WORKSHOP

To celebrate World Heritage Week (19th - 25th November, 2018) Calligraphy Workshop

organized by INTACH on 30thNovember, 2018 at INTACH, 71, Lodhi Estate, New Delhi. Three

students of Class IX accompanied by Ms. Jaya Pathak attended the Workshop which focused on

Delhi’s culture and rich performing art forms. Students learned the art of calligraphy in Urdu and

English.

NATIONALISM: THE PAST AND PRESENT IN INDIA

On 15thNovember, 2018 Md. Jamal Ashraf from Department of Social Science spoke on the topic

Nationalism: The Past and Present in India. The seminar was divided into three parts for the

purpose of clear understanding of the topic. The first part dealt with theoretical aspects focusing

on liberal and conservative theories of nationalism. The second part highlighted the economic

nationalism of India which had brought together the diverse groups of people on the same platform

against the British government while the third dealt with the Hindutva Nationalism. The seminar

was attended by Colonel Choudhury from ERC, Vice Principal, Ms. Nandita Sinha Roy, teachers

and students of Class XI and XII from section E of Cambridge School, Noida. A lot of queries were

answered to make the audience understand the contradiction between Liberal and Conservative

Nationalism.

CAPACITY BUILDING FOR TEACHERS

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME TO BERLIN

Ms. Mitali Sengupta, German Language Teacher of Cambridge School, Noida attended a

Scholarship Programme at Berlin, Germany, under the aegis of Max Mueller Bhavan, New Delhi

from 28th October, 2018 to 25thNovember, 2018. The scholarship programme was sponsored by

the Goethe Institute, New Delhi to enrich and enhance the language base of a German language

teacher. During the programme details about many changes incorporated in grammar and

activities to facilitate the teaching learning process were discussed.

During this trip, cultural tours were organised to various monuments and museums to get an

insight about the history of Berlin and also to have a better understanding of the traditions and

culture of the country.

REMODELLED ASSESSMENT STRUCTURE

A One Day Capacity Building Programme on Remodelled Assessment Structure for Classes IX

and X was organized by CBSE Centre of Excellence at The Indian School, New Delhi on 15 th

November, 2018. It was an informative session made interesting by engaging teachers in various

activities related to the Assessment Structure to be followed in Classes IX and X and subsequently

percolated down to Classes VI - VIII.

Incidentally the Restructured Assessment Model is already being followed in the school in letter

and spirit. The Resource Persons emphasised that the periodicals that are conducted in the

school should be cumulative in nature as far as the syllabus is concerned. They emphatically said

that the

First Pre- Board should cover only 75% of the syllabus.

The Second Pre- Board 100% of the syllabus.

The best of two of 4/5 exams that are conducted should be considered for internal

assessment which carries 10 marks.

NIE WORKSHOP: ROLE OF EDUCATORS IN MODERN ERA

A workshop on Role of Educators in Modern Era was organised by Times NIE group on 19th

November, 2018 at the Kidzania Entertainment City, Noida. Ms. Jyoti Joshi and Ms. Bindu

Muralidharan of Cambridge School, Noida attended the workshop.

The Knowledge Meet was addressed by a panel of eminent personalities who discussed the role

of educators in shaping the personality of a student in the modern era.

The discussion emphasised on value based education which plays an important role in building a

better society. The programme also included quiz, hair styling, Nestle cookery show, Fashion

show and Dance.

TRIPS AND EXCURSIONS

HISTORICAL WALK OF CHANDNI CHOWK

On 3rd November, 2018, Cambridge School, Noida in collaboration with ITIHAAS organized an

educational trip to places of worship in Chandni Chowk, New Delhi, for the students of Class X.

The first stop was at Chandni Chowk, one of the busiest markets of the world where one can find

practically everything under the sun.

The students visited the Jama Masjid an impressive structure made primarily of red sandstone and

white marble. Ms. Smita Vats, the Founder Director of ITIHAAS, briefed the students about the

history of Shah Jahan’s reign, the history of Old Delhi or Shahjahanabad, the mosque and its

architecture. Visit to the Jain Svetambar Temple in Kinari Bazar was mesmerising. The ITIHAAS

team told the students about how the principles of architecture were similar to what they had seen

in Jama Masjid, even though they were constructed by and for the people of different faiths. The

students also visited the adjacent Naughara (nine houses) neighbourhood.

The students also visited Sis Ganj Gurudwara, which is one of the nine historical Gurdwaras in

Delhi. After paying respects to the holy book in the Gurudwara, the group headed to the ‘langar’

hall, to have lunch, following the Sikh tradition of community meals.

It was a great learning experience for the students who saw the coexistence of different faiths in

the same vicinity.

EDUCATIONAL TRIP TO RED FORT

An Educational Trip to Red Fort was organised by ITIHAAS (Indian Traditions and Heritage

Society) on Children’s Day, 14thNovember, 2018 for 170 students of all sections of Class VII

accompanied by their respective Class Teachers. The students were taken on a tour of the fort

guided by Shivani and Indira Ganesh of ITIHAAS, along with their team. They explained the

historical and architectural significance of the fort in great detail and shared many interesting facts

with the students. It was an enjoyable experience and the students learnt about the heritage and

culture as they walked around the iconic monument.

TRIP TO KASHMIRI GATE AND ELECTION MUSEUM

A trip to Kashmiri Gate and Election Museum was organized by ITIHAS GROUP on

14th November, 2018. A total of 175 students of Class VIII visited the place along with the teachers

Ms. Kamaljit Sandhu, Ms. Seema, Mr. Zubair, Mr. Angad, and Ms. Richa Sharma The trip

enlightened the students about the history of the Revolt of 1857 and the role of Kashmiri Gate.

The students were given the opportunity to learn about the process of elections at the Election

Museum. A quiz was also conducted at the venue for engaging the students.

Past and Present

VISIT TO DR. B R AMBEDKAR CENTRE FOR BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH

A visit was organized on 15th November, 2018 to the ACBR laboratory, North Campus, Delhi

University for twelve Biology students of Class XII D along with Ms. Susmita Dey (PGT Biology).

Students had hands on experience of many Biotechnological experiments such as Gel

Electrophoresis, PCR and ELISA. They were also shown Florescent Microscope and centrifuge

machine. It was a wonderful and highly enriching experience for the students. Some of the

students were immensely motivated to see the research work done in the laboratory with the help

of various techniques, processes and devices.
