PEOPLES’ POVERTY REDUCTION PROGRAMME-FUNDED BY GOVERNMENT OF SINDH

Overview

This month report depicts the monthly progress

of PPRP Districts project activities carried out

with fundamental ingredient of social

mobilization: CO/VO/LSO formation, their

routine and follow up meetings with the practice

of saving, community initiative through

community institution platform with further

Programme interventions to targeted

households’.

There were also community institutions leaders’

conference held in different districts during this

month for interacting and brining three pillars:

political, administrative and social pillars

collaboratively at one platform of MAC

managerial activist conference that community

institution leaders can share their progress,

learning experiences and issue to be resolved at

this platform.

During this month, SRSO under the PPRP, for

managerial skills trainings of community leaders

of community institutions, there are many

trainings have been conducted at community

level. There are scheduled different type of

trainings for three VO leaders initially because

the CIF, IGG, VTP, LCH and ED interventions

starts at VO level.

Therefore, the skills training starts from

Community organizations (Cos) office bearers

which is, CMST (Community Management Skills

Training), in which three days managerial

training for CO leaders at village level. In

addition, they trained on necessity of VO

management and Planning Training, CIF

Appraisals’, monitoring training, and many other

managerial pieces of training for community

organizations’ (CO/VO/LSO) office bearers held

to train and uplift these Cis.

In this month, the VO leaders Training Vo

management and planning training (VMST)

arranged at District Offices along with three days

training on CIF appraisals and monitoring

training. In Khairpur CRPs were identified,

interviewed and their three days CRP Capacity

building training was also conducted with the

assistance of IMSD.

In all districts, the low-cost housing scheme has

started and engineers are busy in construction of

houses. The Cheques to beneficiaries given into

installment after technical assessment and

viewing their willingness to construct house at

concern place/plot where they are ready to

construct the house. Monthly Progress Review Planning Meeting

As SRSO is always arranging a monthly progress

review and next month planning meeting of all

districts chaired by team Leader PPRP and Senior

Management. In Pertinent to this, during the first

week of January month, the six Districts

consolidated Planning & Progress Review

meeting held at SRSO Complex Sukkur.

GRSP-European Union Paid an

Official Visit of Khairpur

The Objectives of Delegation Visit:

- Assessment of rural women empowerment

in terms of businesses (Entrepreneurs

women).

- Assessment of support to rural women in

terms of Support in agribusiness and small

farmers women.

- Assessment of Rural women for fattening of

livestock for their business skills training.

Khairpur, 23rd January,2020, the GRASP EU funded

project delegation visited the PPRP enterprise

Development Intervention under which different

Businesses have been executed through formation of

BDGs at community level, visited the Business site

areas.

A high-level delegation of the European Union,

including Razafindrhaingo Nydiane, Associate Expert

of ITC of the GRASP Program, Moneeza Ahmed,

GRASP Research Associate, Simon Baile-ITC, Pippa

McDongall Gender Consultant and Ms. Farah FAO

Representative, attended the PPRP intervention of

Enterprise Development different Business

Development Groups Focus Group Discussion at

Village Tando Maitlo, UC Maghanwari and Tehsil

Kingri.

Team Leader PPRP, District Management, Field Team,

M&E Professional of PPRP-SRSO, FAO representative,

were also part of the visit and discussions with

women community members.

The delegation of GRASP EU and FAO

representatives, preliminary visited the date stock

Storage Cold center at Khairpur. Later, the delegation

moves forward at Village for Focus Group Discussion

with Rural Women Business Development Groups

under which different business have been executed

at community level.

The delegation met representatives of community

organizations of women formed by the SRSO under

the Peoples’ Poverty Reduction Program. They said

the SRSO under Government of Sindh funded project

had taken first step to build base in the shape of

PEOPLES’ POVERTY REDUCTION PROGRAMME-FUNDED BY GOVERNMENT OF SINDH

women community institutions (Co/VO/LSO). Once

strong base was built, the EU Government of Sindh

further support with diversified inputs (Community

Investment Fund (Interest Free Loan), Income

Generation grant, Vocational Training Program, Low

Cost Houses and Enterprise Devel opment-Business

Development Groups to reduce poverty.

The delegation was warmly welcomed at the Village

and later the meeting was formally started with

introduction and LSO Representative Ms. Shaher

Bano presented the LSO initiatives’ and Progress.

The delegation said that there were 75% per cent

poor households in this Union Council and

appreciated passion, enthusiasm and willingness of

rural women to escape poverty through LSO

Platform. It discussed root causes of rural poverty

with communities and assured them that the

Government of Sindh was committed to work with

them for reducing poverty through different

interventions specially for enterprise development

which has given more empowerment to run a

business in male dominant society to earn more and

less labor work for providing Schooling facility ,food

security and nutrition to their children and family

roaster; this would all be done by women and for

women.

Furthermore, the delegation started focus Group

Discussion with a BDG named Iqra, VO-Eidon Tunio,

Union Council Ubri, for the business of “Date Stock

Trading”. The women shared that earlier this

business we are doing simple dates labor work i.e.

Stock piddling, Stock Cleaning, Dates ripening into

dyeing etc. Later, this idea was discussed into VO and

under the ED intervention VO requested for funding

to

SRSO

under

PPRP

Program. Successfully, they got the fund of 316,400.

All BDG member (women) went to market for

purchasing of stock and stock at cold storage 30

Rupees per month for 1 crate, they have total 125

crates stocked at Cold Storage. They purchase the

dates at lower rate and now before the holy Month

of Ramzan they will sell it at high price. It’s good that

the GoS line departments are working in close

collaboration with these CIs for reducing the poverty

at household level for uplifting the living standard of

rural woman in rural Sindh. Delegation appreciated

the efforts and built up of synergies between all

poverty-reduction programs by GoS and other

NGOs/GoS Line Departments.

They shared the following the following information

Group was

(Cloths and

Paint Shirts)

Business. The

Group shared

that in their

village there

were rural women who were searching for daily work

and working at different landlords for earning

purposes’. When this program came (PPRP). We all

rural women sit together and requested SRSO

through VO platform that we need a vocational skills

training for our daughters and organized rural

woman of Advance Tailoring. Indeed, 26 Pax were

certified under Advance Tailoring Trade. Now need a

value chain and linkages for the business. So, we

formed a BDG group named Gadeji for purchasing

sewing machine and opening a Stitching center. They

got a fund of (BDG Received Amount: RS. 200,000/=.

They created strong linkages with different schools

and tailor masters for getting orders (specialist in

Paint shirt stitching) as schools are getting the

uniforms at highest price, so the students and

parents will get the uniforms at feasible price which

is benefiting both community as well as

entrepreneurs.

The Next group was, Goat Rearing. The Female of this

group shared that as these women are belonging to a

poorest of the poor family of Union Council. Indeed,

early to this business, we were rearing the Goats and

Sheep on partnership basis with landlord. So, we

were fully aware of their proper food, vaccination

and fattening at home level. In addition to this, we

brought this idea ta VO level for formation of BDG

group for doing business of Goat fattening. SO, BDG

through the VO Platform requested SRSO for a fund

to start this business. The BDG invested in this

business were 279,000/- Rupees for purchasing of

Goats.

In pursuance of Purchasing Goats, the BDG rural

women along with SRSO Staff went to Purchase the

Kunb-Livestock Market for purchasing the goats at

feasible price. The Women Purchased the livestock

and settle cattle (Land Given by A BDG Member)

having GPS Coordinates’ (Latitude:27.535999

Longitude: 68.656146).

The women have proper knowledge of vaccination

and willing to do insurance of Goats with SRSO

technical support. On second day, they vaccinated

the Goats and for their fodder, they are also leasing

the land of berseem (Food of Animal). In addition to

this, they are grazing the goats with full awareness.

In Last, Delegation participated the Women efforts

and their empowerment that they are looking

forward to their business and this is the real

reflection the Government of Sindh’s engagement as

a force for positive change, in support of different

income generation grants. Loan s and Enterprise

Development. The level and breadth of the GoS-SRSO

PPRP participation illustrates the strong cooperation

between the Government of Sindh and the Sindh

Rural support Organization, who work hand in hand

to jointly deliver women empowerment, uplifting

their living standard, peace and security, advance

human rights and sustainable development through

women participation and empowerment in decision

making, thus changing lives across the country for the

better.
