Southern Valley Alliance for Battered Women is in need of volunteers!
Southern Valley Alliance for Battered Women is offering volunteer training for crisis line advocates, weekly support group facilitators and child care volunteers. Gain valuable knowledge and build your
professional skills while assisting others.
Free volunteer training begins on April 7th, 2018

Blood Drive at the Shakopee Communi-ty Center ~ Thursday, February 8, 1:00-6:45pm. Many people want to give back to the community but do not have a lot of time to volunteer. The American Red Cross reminds people that in only about an hour, volunteer blood donors can help save lives and fell instant gratifica-tion. Please make a donation appoint-ment by calling Shirley at 952-445-4196 or at redcrossblood.org. The Shakopee Community Center is located at 1255 Fuller St. S., Shakopee.

February is almost here and we are looking for-
ward to getting out to visit each of our home-
bound or 80 and older members. If you should
be on this list and do not get a Valentine visit,
please let us know.
We wrapped up 2017 with the annual meeting
and a light luncheon on January 28th. We want
to thank the Deacons, Frieda Olin and Dave Wil-
lemssen, who have so faithfully served for the
past several years and will be off the Deacon list
for a well deserved rest!
As always, the Deacons continue to visit, send
cards, give rides, coordinate staffing for the
nursery, serve on the church committees, and
keep planning for special events! May all of you
stay cozy and comfortable during these cold days
of winter. God bless!

As we enter the month of February which acknowledges Black History, Valentine’s day, Lincoln’s birthday, President’s day, and this year, the Winter Olympics, for us Christians, this month marks the beginning of Lent. During this Lent season, I would like for you to think about what it means to trust God? What are you willing to trust Him with this year? Your health, children, grandchildren, finances, spouse, heart, life? Al Bryant wrote something I would like for you to read as you contemplate the two questions posed above:
Our problem is that we want to test God rather than trust Him. We want to experiment with Him rather than rely on Him. We’re like the boy who tests the doubtful ice instead of skating confidently where God is leading.
What is our faith worth if we don’t trust completely? It is perfectly natu-ral to trust in our own understanding, to rely on our own natural strengths, gifts, or talents (and indeed some modern prophets tell us to do so!). But it is the walk of faith to trust His teaching and direction.
Give Him first place and let Him have precedence. This is the secret of safe guidance and peaceful progression. Simple dependence upon Him, committing our all to Him, obeying Him implicitly – this is how to acknowledge Him “in all thy ways.”
