Women's Day

Celebrations

March 8th is International Women's Day – a day to

celebrate women's contributions in order to make our

world a better one. Keeping that in view, each year,

Hashoo Foundation celebrates womanhood and pays

tribute to the indomitable spirit of women across its

offices. In the same connection, a small gathering was

arranged at core office along with all regional offices.

ROR and Project Office Rawalpindi along with ROG

also celebrated the Women's day. Success stories were

shared followed by cake cutting ceremonies.

HF-HDRC Lahore also celebrated the day with extra

energy and zeal. Where, Speakers, Miss Ayesha Zahid,

Sewa Foundation

(MRSF) to support

minorities by

providing 06 months

tailoring course to 50

unemployed girls

residing in the

Rawalpindi Division.

An MoU was signed

between both

organizations on 4th

March 2016 at HF

Core Office,

Islamabad. Mr.

Sulaiman Dhanani

Following the MoU

signing ceremony, HF

handed over Cheque

and Sewing Machines

to representatives of

MRSF at Umeed-e-

Noor, Islamabad on

11th March 2016.

MRSF received 25

sewing machines

along with first trench

of project funding

amount by the

representative of the

Foundation. This one

year project is aimed

of both the teams

present. The main

agenda of the

meeting was to

discuss the overall

progress of project

activities and follow

up on milestones.

HF Signed Contract With UNDPHashoo Foundation

has signed a contract

with the United

Nations Development

Programme (UNDP)

to implement the third

phase of “Disaster

Risk Reduction in

Pakistan” –

Community Based

Disaster Risk

Management

(CBDRM)

Implementation at UC

Level”. The project

commenced from

March 1st, 2016 and is

expected to conclude

by August 30th, 2016

in UC II Chitral Town,

District Chitral. The

goal is to help reduce

the vulnerability of

those area's of District

Chitral which are

most affected by

natural disasters. This

will be done by

increasing the disaster

preparedness and the

response capacities of

local communities.The project would

cater to approx. 17,644

beneficiaries in the

targeted area.

Facing Hardships of Life with a Smiling Face Fire Safety, First Aid and Emergency Response TrainingMusrat Gul is a Hashoo Foundation's Scholarship program alumni. After acquiring the BSc degree from Chitral, she got admission in MBA at MAJU, Islamabad in 2007.

Despite of her inadequate learning background she passed her MBA with good marks. Afterwards, she was actively involved in various community development programs and served as honorary teacher in Chitral.

However, in 2011, she suffered by multiple-sclerosis. Her treatment was carried out at AKU which helped her recover in a period of one year. But due to unavailability of required medicines in Chitral, the situation reappeared again and got worse in 2013. Resultantly, HF was contacted to support her for medical treatment from AKU Karachi, after which, she got fully recovered in 2015.

“All credit goes to HF and my family for their support. I would like to

follow HF’s foot steps and continue to support community”, expressed Musrat.

She is now selected as a Grade 16 science teacher in education department of the KPK

and is committed to contribute to the community through her knowledge. She also wishes to support two (2) deserving students from her village to complete their education.

Visit of TEVTA Team at RORMr. Usman, Zonal Manager TEVTA and Mr. Saqib, Assistant Manager TEVTA visited Project and Regional office Rawalpindi on March 09th, 2016. They evaluated the ongoing classes of Barista, Culinary Arts, and Food & Beverage Services. Later they went to Regional Office Rawalpindi,

where the midterm evaluation of the Food & Beverage Program's Trainees was in progress.

TEVTA team interacted with all HMTP trainees during their practical session and asked various questions related to training processes and practical, which they confidently replied to.

Thokham Rozi Festival Celebrated in Ghizercelebrated with a trip of local religious leader called “Khalifa” accompanied by village notables, villagers and traditional music band to the naturally made water channel in mountains.Festival was graced by Mr. Fida Khan, member of a

Thokham Rozi festival has been the most popular festival of District Ghizer. The basic theme of the festival is to welcome

the plough season and start cultivation. GB remains dry and barren from November to January, whereas, in February and March, the glaciers starts to melt which causes streams and rivers to be filled with fresh water again. On 15th March 2016, the festival was

Provincial Assembly and Deputy Commissioner of district Ghizer as Chief Guest.

Jashan-e-Nauroz Celebrations in Hunzacomprised of females.

The Persian word “Novroz” means “New Day,” which symbolizes new beginning. It is, therefore, also a time to reflect over what we wish to begin afresh. Captian Retired Sami Ullah Faroqi, Assistant Commissioner, participated in the event as Chief Guest.

Jashan-e Nauroz was celebrated at Aliabad village of District Hunza on March 21, 2016 by Hashoo Foundation in partnership with Hunza Arts and Culture Council (HA&CC) as local implementing partner, under the project funded by Centre for Culture and Development (CKU). The festival was

widely celebrated by the local community which also enabled the female members to gather and participate in different cultural activities. Participation of more than 2,000 people from various villages of Hunza in the festival is manifestation of social and cultural harmony among all faction of society. Where, almost 60% of the crowd

Local band performance welcomed the guests and participants of the event while local traditional gifts were presented to the Chief Guest. This was followed by a traditional sufi song performance which officially commenced the festival.

Dada “is the local tradition to celebrate the first tooth of the baby. Mother waits

for the festival of Navroz to celebrate the ritual of Novroz and the babies are

showered with sweets and steamed grains by the local elder”.

Jashan-e-Nauroz Celebrations in Hunzacomprised of females.

The Persian word “Novroz” means “New Day,” which symbolizes new beginning. It is, therefore, also a time to reflect over what we wish to begin afresh. Captian Retired Sami Ullah Faroqi, Assistant Commissioner, participated in the event as Chief Guest.

Jashan-e Nauroz was celebrated at Aliabad village of District Hunza on March 21, 2016 by Hashoo Foundation in partnership with Hunza Arts and Culture Council (HA&CC) as local implementing partner, under the project funded by Centre for Culture and Development (CKU). The festival was

widely celebrated by the local community which also enabled the female members to gather and participate in different cultural activities. Participation of more than 2,000 people from various villages of Hunza in the festival is manifestation of social and cultural harmony among all faction of society. Where, almost 60% of the crowd

Local band performance welcomed the guests and participants of the event while local traditional gifts were presented to the Chief Guest. This was followed by a traditional sufi song performance which officially commenced the festival.

Dada “is the local tradition to celebrate the first tooth of the baby. Mother waits

for the festival of Navroz to celebrate the ritual of Novroz and the babies are

showered with sweets and steamed grains by the local elder”.

Celebrations of Bo-Fao Festival“Bo-Fao” - a traditional festival in Hunza, Gilgit Baltistan (GB), was revived after 52 years by Hashoo Foundation in collaboration with Centre for Culture and Development (CKU). A two-day event was inaugurated by Governor of GB and former Mir of Hunza, Mir Ghazanfar Ali Khan and was attended by more than 6,000 people.

Mr. Amjad Ali Khan, Project Officer and Mr. Nizam Ali, MIS-MEAL Officer participated in CKU partners' orientation meeting on cultural rights conducted by Shirkat Gah (SG)-Women's Resource Centre, Lahore on 23-24th February 2016 whereas, Mr. Sultan Mehmood Senior Regional Program Manger and Mr. Imran Khan, Manager Program Development participated in the subsequent orientation session planned for 29th and 30th March 2016 in Lahore under SG. The objective of the orientation sessions was to enhance understanding of gender issues and human rights, especially cultural rights, amongst CKU partners.

meeting was arranged by Centre for Culture and Development (CKU) on Monday, 28th March 2016, in Lahore with the objectives to bring together and engage all partner organizations of the programme in an interactive and purposeful dialogue on programme Implementation review -- individual presentations of 10 minutes each made by Partners on the current status and next quarter of their respective projects. Mr. Sulaiman Dhanani, Country Director, along with Mr. Sultan Mehmood, Senior Regional Program Manager and Mr. Amjad Ali, Project Officer represented the Foundation at the said meeting.

Hashoo Foundation and UN-HABITAT assessed the damage caused by the floods and earthquake of 2015 in District Chitral in Pakistan, focusing mainly on the housing sector. Joint teams of engineers, DRR specialist and community social mobilizers assessed the housing situation in 15 villages of 8 union councils of Chitral, which were affected by both flood and earthquake of 2015.

The extent and type of damage and the priorities of needs were assessed through focus group discussions, village profiling exercises, household level damaged and needs assessments and transit walk of the village. The study concluded that the wide range of damage suffered was due to a variety of factors such as:
