The day will also include:• A collection of case studies from NHS Wales, which will

demonstrate how we are connecting people and systems to provide better patient experience, improved health outcomes and a more integrated approach to care.

• A market place to provide the opportunity to network, share good practice and make invaluable new connections with colleagues across Wales to improve quality and safety.

• An expert panel debate to consider how we use our connections, improvement training and clinical expertise across Wales to achieve a more integrated approach to patient care.

A number of themed workshops will also take place on Tuesday 28 March to complement the conference. These workshops are by invite-only and offer conference attendees the opportunity to participate in their existing 1000 Lives Improvement communities of practice, study days or professional networks ahead of attending the national conference.

A group of healthcare, public sector and third sector professionals met in Llandudno on Thursday 12 January to continue the ongoing national conversation around the future of falls prevention in older people in Wales.

The event – hosted by the 1000 Lives Improvement Falls prevention programme – included the second meeting of the National Task Force for Falls Prevention in Older People: a collaborative of health, housing, social care and third sector professionals with expertise in falls prevention.

• Raise public awareness to reduce the risk of falls in older people

• Develop brief interventions using the #SteadyOnStaySafe campaign

• Develop a data sharing pathway between the NHS and non NHS organisations

The National Task Force has three key priorities for this year:

National conversation around falls prevention continues in North Wales (cont’d)Keynote speaker Ann Murray, Falls Prevention Manager of NHS Scotland said: “Taking action to prevent falls is obviously important, but you also need to have a shared, clear vision of what you want to achieve.”

“Falls prevention needs to be everybody’s business - and with so many people, services and organisations potentially playing a part, that vision is key so everyone heads in the same direction.”

The 1000 Lives Improvement Falls Prevention programme aims to help older people to maintain their health and wellbeing, live longer in their own homes and remain active in their communities. This work is underpinned by the principles of prudent healthcare.
