hellip with Dr Or Raviv LSE Fellow in European Political Economy European Institute (2012-2012)

Or you will very sadly be leaving the LSE European Institute soon What are your next steps Where will we find you in the future OR If you wish to find me next year you wonlsquot have to travel far as I am only going as far as across the street Ilsquove recently accepted a position as an LSE Fellow in Global Politics at the LSE Government Department While Ilsquom very sad to be leaving the European Institute staying at the LSE has always been my first choice and Ilsquom delighted that this has worked out

You have been at the European Institute as an LSE Fellow in European Political Economy for two years Whatrsquos the greatest experience yoursquove gained and what will you miss the most OR Without a doubt what I will miss most is the many conversations Ilsquove had with European Institute students especially informally out of class during feedback sessions or a t t he Cumber land Lo dge workshop Ilsquove often found the c o n v e r s a t i o n s w e lsquo v e h a d extremely challenging and inspiring I can only hope the European

Political Economy cohort of students in particular have found these experiences as rewarding as I

did

What advice would you give to this years class of graduating students Throughout the year (especially during exams period) I hope most of you have come to realise that the greatest resources at your disposal is not to be found in the corridors of the European Institute or even at the library ndash it is in fact your fellow students who have helped you through this challenging year facing various daunting tasks such as group essays joint presentations exam preparations and more Now that you are graduating and going back out into the real worldlsquo I hope you would keep in touch with one another and build lasting relationships with friends youlsquove acquired this year You might not know it just yet but the future captains of industry government and the EU institutions have probably sat next to you during one seminar or another this year Oh

Sixty-second Interview

Are you looking forward to having more time to yourself to explore a hobby or an activity yoursquove always wanted to do or spend more time with your wife and young son (pictured in previous page) OR Finding more free time for hobbies and other activities (like walking my dog through the fields of West Sussex or going to the park with my two-year old son) does sound great but sadly I doubt very much that the pace at the Government Department next year will be any slower or less busy than this year at the EI One day soon however when my son is a little older I hope to be able to take some time off and take the family travelling through South America My dream is that we stay and volunteer for a while as a family in one of the many biodiversity or community involvement projects running in the Amazonas Rain Forest ndash a guy can only dream no

Do you have any plans to move back to your home country Israel at all OR I donlsquot have any such plans at the foreseeable future although never say never We have lived in the UK for nearly a decade now and have grown very fond of life here In particular I must note the weather and fluorescent mushy peas (the glow in the dark kind you get with your fish and chipshellip) as two things I can hardly see myself doing without after living here so long )

What book do you wish yoursquod written OR Ilsquove always been particularly envious of an Australian novelist by the name of Max Barry (Jennifer Government is probably his best known book) The beauty about his work is that it is every bit as insightful into the dynamics of global political economy as the work produced by us academics ndash only he neednlsquot bother about empirical data social theory or any of that nonsense his main tool of the trade is a great sense of humourhellip

What is the most dangerous thing you have ever done OR Thatlsquos an easy one Becoming a dad Every day since Amir was born there is a new reason to get extremely worried about ndash I think someone should do a serious study on the relationship between fatherhood and heart disease ndash every time he tries to climb down the stairs I nearly suffer a heart attack The day helsquoll start going out and asking for the car will surely be my last

differently
