President's Message
The Hosta Society is having their regional meeting in Clarksville this year on May 31 to June 2. They have several great speakers lined up as well as a tour of local gardens. If you would like to go and did not get the e-mail, contact Colleen Teet. If we are going to have a garden tour this year we need some of you to step up to help on the committee. Also, we need some more gardens to be on the tour. If you would like to be on the tour or know someone who would, please contact me at 931-561-0929. Dues were due in January, if you have not paid yet please take care of that at the February meeting. Our speaker this month will be Dana Koverman. She will be speaking about scatter gardens.

Master Gardener Tour Update
We need people to showcase their gardens for the upcoming tour. If
you don’t think your garden is show worthy, no problem. Your fellow
Master Gardeners can help make your garden tour worthy. And yes,
you can earn hours for this! Even if you think that your garden can’t
become tour ready with the help of 1,000 Master Gardeners, that’s
okay. We still need volunteers at each stop on our Master Gardener
tour. Interested in helping out? Talk to your board members.
This is could be a future Master Gardener’s first impression of our
organization. Help make this Master Gardener tour the best it can be.
Blooms in February
Even though it is a time when most of us are ready for spring, February is a reminder of the hardships of winter. Often a month of turmoil in the skies, many plants are content to stay hidden until February storms have past.
A few options for February blooms:
Galanthus Snowdrop
Iris Danfordiate
Iris Reticulate
Hellebore
Camellia
Garrya
Oregon Grape Holly Information compiled from http://garden.lovetoknow.com/wiki/Flowers_by_Month

Last Month’s Meeting
During January’s meeting, Mr. John Froeschauer presented information about winter birds in Tennessee. His wealth of
knowledge and numerous images were greatly appreciated by all members.
Master Gardener Meeting
January 11th 2017
The meeting was called to order by Pres. Jim Conatser, who then called our attention to the spiffy new ticket dispenser we will be using for our door prize drawings.
Leon Gordon led us in a wonderful prayer of thanks and praise.
There being no revisions to the Minutes and Treasury Reports, they were both passed and approved as recorded.
Pres. Jim reminded the association that whenever the Montgomery County schools are cancelled due to in climate weather on a day we meet, our meeting is cancelled also.
Beverly Guinn reported that the Audit Committee comprised of herself, Betty Cole and Theresa Bray, examined and found the treasury records in perfect order.
Pres. Jim announced that new project lists will soon be forth coming, and he encouraged new Interns to join as many present projects that interest them now, by contacting a board member, a project chairperson or calling the extension office.
Karla Kean addressed a needed correction concerning the proper time Interns are expected to start paying association dues, which is upon their year of certification. Karla also imparted some of the highlights of the upcoming TEMG State Conference at the Montgomery Bell State Park, on April 5
th, 6
th and 7
th, 2018. She said that schedules, lodging info and
registration forms can be found at https://extension.tennessee.edu/mastergardener/Pages/default.aspx She also told us how to join the List Serve, so we can receive all important information by email.
Pres. Jim announced that we have a Plant Sale coming on April 28, 2018, and a Garden Tour in June. He called for indi-viduals interested in chairing or co-chairing the committee and volunteers, to please contact him or Colleen Teet by phone or email. Barbara Plechaty, Beverly Guinn and Yvonne Wheeler offered some excellent suggestions to further highlight the tour this year.
Vince Hernandez announced that the National Lawn and Garden Show will be March 1-4, 2018 at the Nashville Fair-grounds. He also invited us to participate with him at a Montgomery County Red Cross Home Campaign meeting on January 20, 2018. The chapter is preparing a project to install fire detectors in as many needy homes as possible as a public service.
Herman Albright, who chaired the Scatter Garden Project at the Greenwood Cemetery, presented a beautiful picture book highlighting the garden’s creation from start to finish, the book was passed around to our pleasure, and the garden looks like a real go to place. He said he’d still welcome plant donations, as there’s still room for more tweaking.
This month’s Host and Hostesses, Leon Gordon, Debbie Johnson and Katie Smith were applauded.
Vice Pres. Yvonne Wheeler introduced the guest speaker, Mr. John Froeschauer, who is a Regional Interpretive
Specialist of Tennessee State Parks, Middle Tennessee. His program was on Winter Birds, and we were treated to a
dazzling array of pictures, and detailed information. The presentation was most enjoyable.
Door prizes were drawn, and the meeting was adjourned.
