Maria Montessori - Did You Know….?
Maria Montessori was the first female doctor in Italy. Maria Montessori was exiled from Italy by Mussolini because she would not allow her schools to be used to
turn children into soldiers. During her exile, Maria Montessori spent many years in India where she befriended Gandhi. Maria Montessori was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize three times. President Woodrow Wilson’s daughter was a Montessori teacher. There was a Montessori classroom
located in the White House during his Presidency. Alexander Graham Bell and his wife Mabel provided the financial support to Maria Montessori and helped
establish the first Montessori classroom in the United States in 1913. Bell went on to form and become the first president of the American Montessori Society.
When Maria Montessori came to the United States in 1913, she was welcomed by Thomas Edison.

Special Thank You to… Get Ready For Conferences
To those who have shared the wonderful
things happening at MTCMA; sending
friends and family to our Winter Open
House. We had a tremendous turnout of
new families thanks to your
recommendations!!!
The First and Second Grade students, Mr.
Kerekes, and the classroom teachers for
putting on such wonderful concerts for
their families and friends. We were so
impressed with their talents.
To all who have helped their Fourth Grade
students with the Wax Museum projects.
All of us learned so much about these
famous historic figures during your
presentations on March 1st. Great work!
Conferences are extremely important as they allow our staff to meet
with each parent individually and communicate the progress and
needs of your child. Open lines of communication between the
school and families are essential and enhance the success of each
child. Appointment sign-up sheets are located in the classroom
folders on the table outside the Office. The dates of the conferences
are March 28 and March 29. There will be NO SCHOOL for all
students on March 29. Spring Recess begins on April 1st. Classes
Resume on April 8th.
The hours for Parent Teacher Conferences are as follows:
Thursday, March 28th - 1:15pm-7:00pm
Friday, March 29th - 11:15am-6:00pm
Conference Camp (Daycare) will be available on March 29 from
6:30AM-6:00PM.
Conference Camp will be available at $40 per day or $6 per hour.
Please fill out the “Conference Daycare Request Form” located in
the Daycare Room or in the Office. In order to plan for staffing, the
Request Form is due to the Office by Monday, March 26th.
Incredible Kid Day
Absolutely Incredible Kid Day is a special day that is new to MTCMA this year. This day is celebrated annually on the
third Thursday in March, asking adults to write letters of love and support to their youth. This national campaign to honor
children has been recognized as an event to inspire adult-to-child interaction. We will be celebrating “Absolutely
Incredible Kid Day” on Thursday, March 21st here at Mt. Clemens Montessori Academy. We are asking your support in
writing a special note to your child(ren) reminding them how incredible they are to you and your family. It is our hope
that every child will receive at least one letter from a parent or special family member. You may begin sending your letter
through March 9th and they will be distributed March 21
st.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!!! Great Books
March 2 is the birthday of the beloved children’s author Theodore Geisel,
aka Dr. Seuss. Yearly, children in nearly every community celebrate his
birthday by participating in a reading event called, “Read Across
America”. This event motivates children to read and is an important factor
in student achievement; creating lifelong successful readers. Research has
shown that children who are motivated and spend more time reading do
better in school.
This year we will commemorate “Read Across America”
on Friday, March 1st. Our classrooms will be planning
many different activities to inspire reading. Hopefully, this
celebration of reading will continue at home and we
encourage reading with your child and family nightly. We
suggest that parents read to their students, or have them
read aloud to an audience including siblings, grandparents,
or in the company of any caring adult.
Children who are too young to read may simply enjoy a
picture book. Have fun with your family as you stress the
importance of reading!
Choosing books for your child can
sometimes be difficult. The staff at
MTCMA would like to help. Below is a list
of a few book recommendations form the
staff ranging in grade levels.
Ms. Allie enjoys The Cat and the Hat
by Dr. Seuss
Ms. Amy and Madame Tazzi think
everyone should read Rainbow Fish by
Marcus-PFister.
Ms. Marlene loves Green Eggs and
Ham by Dr. Seuss
Mr. Casey loves Zin! Zin! Zin! A Violin
by Lloyd Moss
Mr. Evans likes Where the Wild Things
are by Maurice Seudak.
Barnes and Noble Book Fair and Art Show
The Mt. Clemens Montessori Academy Book Fair is scheduled for Friday and
Saturday March 8th and 9th from 9:30am-9:30pm both days. Location for this
fundraiser is at Barnes and Noble – 14165 Hall Road, Shelby Township (across
from Lakeside Mall).
The Book Fair is a great opportunity to purchase books and gifts for your entire
family; plus nearly every purchase will benefit our school. If you are unable to
visit the store during the Book Fair, you are able to shop online at
BN.COM/BOOKFAIRS and support Mt. Clemens Montessori Academy.
Remember, to use the Book Fair ID #12414223 (please share our Book Fair ID
with your family and friends) on the payment page at checkout. More information
and voucher forms are available on the school website.
Many wonderful events have been planned throughout the two day Book Fair
extravaganza, making it a fun-filled learning family outing. Activities include
many of our teachers reading and crafts and hands-on activities. Returning to our
Fair is the student art show. In addition, the Barnes and Noble staff will be
celebrating National Storytime. See you at the Fair and start making your reading
wish lists!
