“Screenagers”: Making the Connectionoorly, or you

can use it well."

Marge Scherer, technology is a double-edged sword. You can use it poorly, or you can use it well."

Marge Scherer…reports on two quotes from article in Educational Leadership

"Education has to change. We can't pull kids into learning in school if they are engaged in a different world outside school.“

"If you don't know how to use technology in class, you are in trouble. But, of course, technology is a double-edged sword. You can use it poorly, or you can use it well.“

Our students are digital natives…most adults are digital immigrants. We must reach out to our students in “their world”!

How do you peak student interest in your subject matter?

Teachers can access an enormous amount of curriculum content online in a variety of formats, including audio and video pieces that can help bring the material to life for students. These materials are often free. Helpful sites include:

DiscoveryEducation's Lesson Plan Library (http://school.discoveryeducation.com/lessonplans).

Teachers Helping Teachers (www.pacificnet.net/~mandel/index.html).

TeachersFirst.com (www.teachersfirst.com/index.cfm).

Thinkfinity (www.thinkfinity.org/lesson-plans).

APTPlus (www.APTPlus.org)... Which will be our focus today!

There are many resources to help you, as the teacher, get started. Below are only a few…

Monroe County Digital Resources Survey Results…

1. Percentage of teachers using APTPlus…. 27.03%

2. Percentage of teachers NOT using APTPlus…72.97%

Top 5 Reasons WHY our teachers stated they are NOT using APTPlus:3. They use the Internet to get the resources they need.4. They are not fully aware of its usefulness.5. They have forgotten their password.6. They were not aware of it. There is a lack of knowledge.7. They don’t have the time to sit down and explore it because there are

so many other demands.
