MONORAIL Vs METRO RAIL

INTRODUCTION monorail and Metrorail serve the same purpose

of mass transit system which is fast and efficient, there are basic differences in design, structure and cost of a monorail and metro rail that will be discussed in this topic.

Page 3: Monorail vs Metrorail

BEST IN RAILWAYS• 60% of the rails running in CHINA are AIR CONDITIONED for the convenience of the passengers.• An average speed of the passenger train in CHINA has 200Kmph,where as in our country the speed

is only 55Kmph.• The world’s fastest train runs in China only BEIJING- TO –SHANGHAI rail line.

Page 4: Monorail vs Metrorail

BEIJING- TO -SHANGHAI• This is the world's longest high-speed rail line,

ever constructed in a single phase Line length: 1,318 km (819 mi) . The non-stop train from Beijing South to Shanghai was estimated finish the journey in 5 hours , averaging 329kmph, making it the fastest scheduled train in the world, An estimated 220,000 passengers are expected to use the trains.

TECHNOLOGY DEBATE• TECHNOLOGY DEBATE, The construction plan

was finally determined in 2004, after a five-year-long debate on whether to utilize steel-on-steel rail track, or maglev technology.

• India has only 30Km to max 200Km is the length of the metro line whereas China has far exceeded this boundary.

• At present, Metro trains runs in 15 major cities of China , and projects are in developmental stage in additional 18 cities.

monorailA monorail is arail-basedtransportation system based on a single rail, which acts as its sole support and its guide way.

Page 7: Monorail vs Metrorail

HISTORY OF MONORAIL• The train was originated in Germany.• The first monorail was made in Russia by “Ivan elmanov “ in 1820.• The term monorail was coined by a German engineer; “eugen langen”

Page 8: Monorail vs Metrorail

Purpose for the invention!• monorails were born out of necessity to connect two points that needed materials in a fast time period.

Page 9: Monorail vs Metrorail

DESIGN OF A MONORAIL • But , Monorail is a transport system which runs on single rail line.

• monorails do not use pantographs.

Page 10: Monorail vs Metrorail

MODERN MONORAILS• Modern monorails depend largely solid beam(track) as the vehicles‘ running surface.

• straddle-beam and suspended monorails Are the main two types of monorail.

WORLD’s BUSIEST MONORAIL LINE

• Hundreds of thousand passenger travel monorail daily.• in Tokyo . the world's busiest monorail line, averages127,000 passengers per day and has served over1.5billion passengers till date.

Page 12: Monorail vs Metrorail

WORKING PRINCIPLE• It works on the principle of electromagnetism , by which Magnetic Levitation(MAGLEV) occurs ,as the train looks to be running in the air . • Maglev transport is a means of flying a vehicle or object along a guide way by using magnets to create both lift and thrust , a few inches above the guide way surface.

Page 13: Monorail vs Metrorail

SPEED OF A MONORAIL!• It is the fastest running train in the world. • Its speed is 500kmph.

Page 14: Monorail vs Metrorail

METRORAIL A rapid transit, metro or an electrical passenger in an urban area with a high capacity and no delay, and Independent from other traffic.

Page 15: Monorail vs Metrorail

HISTORY OF METRORAIL • rapid transit evolved from steam railways during the late 19th century.• The electric railway eventually was merged into London underground opened in 1863.• The technology swiftly spread to other cities in Europe.

Page 16: Monorail vs Metrorail

PURPOSE OF THE INVENTION• Metro Train facilitates transportation within the city limits.• It is faster than an ordinary train, so people can reach their destination soon.• More people can travel in metro train

Page 17: Monorail vs Metrorail

DESIGN OF A METRORAIL• Metro rail that runs on 2 rails like all other trains all over the world.• Most rapid transit trains are electrical multiple units with lengths from three to beyond ten cars.• They use pantographs

Page 18: Monorail vs Metrorail

MODERN METRORAILS• Shanghai, London, New York, and Delhi, It is called metro as it runs mostly in metro cities of the world.• It runs underground, on ground and over the ground too. this feature makes an advancement from the early stages of monorail.

Page 19: Monorail vs Metrorail

WORLD’s BUSIEST METRORAIL LINE

• More recently the largest growth has been in Asia and with Driverless systems.• More than 160 cities have rapid transit systems, totaling more than 8,000 km (5,000 mi) of track and 7,000 stations. Twenty-five cities have new systems under construction.

Page 20: Monorail vs Metrorail

WORKING PRINCIPLE • there are no magnetic levitation methods of electromagnetism used here. They purely follow conventional methods of electrical multiple unit(EMU) . That is they use electric power for the propulsion.• While underground metro use linear motor for propulsion.

Page 21: Monorail vs Metrorail

SPEED OF METRORAIL• The world's fastest underground train zipped through Guangzhou (south china) Reaches a top speed of 135km/hr.

AHCIEVEMENTS!• DELHI METRO RAIL CORPORATION was

initiated by the Indian government in March 1995 , the operation began in 24 December 2002.

• The network has a total length of 189.63 kilometers with142 stations of which 35 are underground.

• (DMRC)has been certified by the UNITED NATIONS as the first metro rail-based system in the world to get “carbon credits for reducing greenhouse gas emissions” and helping in reducing pollution levels in the city by 630,000 tons annually.
