Oct 11th, 2010 Lament Iya

SCENE(Night, a clearing in the woods. A young man in a blue habit is sitting by the fire. He is CREEK and is making a splint for his leg, a branch nearby he uses as a walking stick.)

CREEK

(grimacing in pain)

A Prayer would be so much easier than this. Maybe I should have listened to the Father Abbot

and gone into the Soul Sect. Or at least taken more Healer classes.

(CREEK ties the top of the splint on and yells in pain.)

My Prayer for pain does not last long enough for this.

(CREEK braces himself before he ties the bottom and doesn't yell. He holds a hand over

his leg and the lighting brightens for a moment. When it darkens again he leans back.)

Although, if I had gone into the Soul Sect I would not have learned Ancient.

(CREEK laughs.)

Would not have read the tablet. Would not have found out the mistake. Who am I trying to

convince? What mistake? You are not stupid, Creek. That… Thing did it on purpose. Who in

their right mind could confuse 'peace' with 'destruction'? If I had gone into Soul, I might still

think he was human.

(CREEK looks up towards the sky.)

Lord, is this what I get? I know I have always strived to challenge myself, always trying to keep

from growing stagnant. Is this Your answer to all those times I asked for more? Can I handle

this? That monster is the leader of the Brotherhood and he controls all the outside information.

He dictates what Your monks know. He practically has an army! And what have You given

me? I am just a Scribe with a walking stick and a scroll with the true prophecy.

(CREEK shakes his head.)

No. I am being foolish. You only give us what we can handle. What we must handle. Regret

and doubt are hardly going to help me at this point. Though, I wish I had the foresight to try and

land in the bushes after jumping out that window.

(Pause.)

Oh Lord… He was the closest thing I have ever had to a father. He always spoke to me,

checked on how I was doing. He wanted me to be a Healer for my own sake, I am not exactly

the toughest Brother in the monastery. He personally taught me the Ancient runes. And all that

time… I was so blind. He is a monster controlling the Brotherhood with apathy. Rotten from

the inside out. Crippled at the heart. The battle has not even begun and he may have already

won.
