•Literature review for thesis•Writing a paper•Conference presentation•Current awareness•Hot topics•Collaboration•Grant opportunities•New advances in methodology•Career progression•Funding body / UoM progress / management reports
•Databases e.g OVID Medline, Embase, Web of Science, • Save search strategies as either email or RSS alerts• PubMed, HubMed*, PubGet*
• Usually need to register to save searches and set up alerts e.g. OVID My Account, PubMed – My NCBI
*e.g.s of derivatives of PubMed which have an improved search interface and retrieval
•Journals• Individual titles e.g. Nature, Am J Human Genetics• Table of Contents services e.g. ZETOC, JournalTOCs,
• Can search for specific journals or words / phrases
RSS feeds in browser e.g. Internet Explorer
Feed Aggregator e.g. Google Reader
