Monitoring Systems for Offshore Wind Turbines
Intelligent monitoring for optimized lifetime, reduced inspections and minimized risks
Structural health monitoring
Intelligent monitoring systems for foundation and rotor blade structures are an important tool to reduce risks and costs in offshore wind energy.
The installation of offshore wind turbines is extremely complex and expensive. As there is very strong and constant wind offshore, this investment pays off, if almost continuous operation can be ensured and if inspection and maintenance work can be reduced to a necessary minimum. For this purpose Wölfel provides efficient structural health monitoring systems.
Our solution
Wölfel offers comprehensive solutions for real-time monitoring of supporting structures of offshore wind turbines from the foundation to the tower head and the rotor blades.Monitoring is more than just data acquisition: competent analysis, evaluation and assessment of the measurement data is much more important and complex in order to provide the user with reliable and comprehensible information about the current state of the structure. With our solution you will meet the requirements of approval authorities. Moreover we support you to develop efficient inspection and maintenance concepts for your wind farm. With the results of our monitoring solution you are able to reduce stress for optimized operation and longer lifetime.
Functional principle
Our monitoring concept is based on robust mea-suring equipment that is easy to install and on intelligent evaluation algorithms. It includes vari-ous modular components which can be adapted to individual project requirements.
Features:

Structural health monitoring for rotor blades
Our SHM.Blade® is a condition monitoring system for rotor blades, which can detect structural dam-age. By sensors inside the rotor blades, sophisti-cated signal analysis and individual referencing an extraordinary sensitivity is achieved. The system continuously calculates condition indicators, which provide information on the current condition of the blade at all times. Inspection and repair measures can be planned by means of a two-level warning and alarm concept. Moreover the turbine con-trol system can react and prevent subsequent damage. More detailed information can be provided via a web interface of our backup and monitoring sys-tem. SHM.Blade® is certified by DNV/GL.
Structural health monitoring for tower and foundation
Our monitoring solution for tower and foundation is based on many years of experience in monitoring civil engineering structures and rotor blades. With our system you are able to document stresses and detect structural changes with a very robust, redundant and highly efficient sensor technology. All sensors are placed above the water level and well protected against the harsh environment. We provide you with real-time information about the structural conditions and a warning and alarm concept to prevent severe failures. Our solution focuses on the documentation of measured stress to allow a lifetime assessment and thereby optimize inspections and repair measures.
