THE FRIEDENTHAL TROPHY:

Craftsmanship of the year for Civil Technology award.

The top student in Civil Technology is a young man who, since starting the subject in Grade 10, proved to be a perfectionist in everything he did and if he continues like that everything he touches will turn to gold. He is a true craftsman.

THE GRANT LAWRENCE AWARD: Most Outstanding Civil Technology learner

This award was donated to the school in Memory of Grant Lawrence (an ex learner of our school) and is awarded each year to the most outstanding Civil Technology student.

This young man is hardworking. A young man who really enjoyed the subject. He is very skillful with his hands. His attitude and commitment was a pleasure to experience as an educator. He is to be commended for his outstanding work.

FRAZER AWARD: Most Outstanding Consumer Studies Theory learner

This trophy was donated to the school by Mrs Fraser, a former teacher at our school. This award is presented to a learner for outstanding practical work in Consumer Studies.

Tonight this award goes to a learner who has the ability to analyse and critically evaluate the content of Food and Nutrition, Clothing and Housing and Interior Design. She has set an excellent example to her fellow peers in the Consumer Studies class. She consistently works very hard and gives of her best to obtain excellent results.

THE LINDSAY AWARD is awarded to the Top Consumer Studies practical learner.

This award is shared by two learners who are worthy recipients. Both learners have shown a passion for cooking and baking. They have the ability to read and understand a recipe by using the correct techniques in cooking and baking. They have worked methodically during practical lessons. Their end products were always of a very high standard. They have shown a high level of competency in the cookery centre.

THE COCO-COLA SOWETAN ENVIRO TROPHY: is given to a learner who has been a member of the Enviro Club for the pasts years.

This learner has been an active member of the Enviro Club for the past 5 years. During these years she has emerged as a strong leader - going beyond what is asked of her, using her own initiative and co-ordinating projects, be it digging in the Nature Reserve or doing research. What all members of the Enviro Club will remember is her ready smile and kindness.

AWARD FOR ARTISTIC EXCELLENCE: is awarded to a learner who as an Art student displayed artistic excellence.

This young artist will reach the highest recognition in the near future. This artist has the ability to create the ugliest picture into his own style and individual technique make it a gold winner.

PAYNE HISTORY AWARD: goes to a learner who at all times displays a love of History.

This young lady is a conscientious and hard working young lady, whose love of History has grown enormously through her time at Mondeor High. She displays a deep interest in the discipline, exploring historical issues and engaging in personal research in order to expand her own knowledge and understanding. She is thoughtful and historically insightful and is a worthy recipient of this award.

MORFIS TROPHY: is awarded to two top Business Studies learners who have shown a real insight and feel for the subject.

This award goes to a hard-working young man who has a love for Business Studies. He is a curious young man, and a lesson never goes by without him asking questions and debating in the business class. He goes out of his way to complete his tasks and is business minded. He would love to study Bcom Accounting, but one day own his own business. I wish him well with his future plans.

HAUPT SCIENCE AWARD: is an award to our top Science learner.

This is a diligent young man who has worked tirelessly throughout the year. He is determined to work until he finds a solution to the problem. He is very analytical and meticulous. He has set very high standards for himself and has achieved excellence.

He will further his studies at the University of Cape Town where he will study a BSC Degree majoring in Physical Science and Mathematical Science.

PAHL GEOGRAPHY AWARD is awarded to the top Geography student who shows a real feel, love and insight for the subject.

This young lady is a most outstanding Geography student who takes Geography beyond the classroom. Her excellent knowledge of global issues, eg. global warming, and environmental issues, allows her to initiate outstanding discussion in class. To excel in Geography you have to be a critical thinker, and she definitely has the ability. Geographers, through Geographical information systems, have taken the gathering of information to a new level. Her excellent work ethic promises great success in the future and she will definitely be recognized globally.

LAVERY MATHEMATICS AWARD is awarded to learners who display enthusiasm in Mathematics.

This young lady is an exceptional student who puts every ounce of energy into her work. She strives to be the best in everything she does. She sets personal and academic goals for herself, and throughout my career as a Mathematics educator I have never seen anyone work this hard to achieve her goals.

She attended every single extra lesson the school offered. She also attended extra classes offered by outside companies. This was done on her own accord. She has worked through several textbooks, many that weren't prescribed. She actively participated in class and was truly a pleasure to teach. I wish her all the best for her future studies and believe without a doubt she will succeed in anything she sets her mind to.

LINDA DEKLERK LITERATURE AWARD is an award initiated and organised by our Head of Department, Ms Bucceri in memory of Mrs L de Klerk. Ms Bucceri and her English Department realising Mrs de Klerk's real love and feel for the English language and in particular literature commissioning ex Mondeor High School educator, Mr B Sauders, to design and make this beautiful trophy. Mrs de Klerk taught at Mondeor for a period of 16 years. She loved literature. She never lost focus of the child in education. She would at all times endeavour through literature to extend the vision and horizon of the learners she taught.

The recipient of this award is a severely calm young lady who spends much f her time with her nose in a book. Her outstanding creative writing ability and command of the English language are testimony to the many hours she spends reading. It has been a privilege watching her skill of writing and manipulation of English develop.

This learner has a melodious voice for all occasions. She has graced our assemblies, fashion shows, weddings and funerals. She is a great entertainer and is prepared to go the extra mile musically.

This learner has a powerful soprano voice that can fill the entire hall. She has been an inspiration to all and will be greatly missed.

Tonight this award goes to a young man who despite many challenges continues to use his talents both in the classroom and on the sports field. He was the icebreaker at the Fashion Show. His beautiful sense of humour, his excellent manners make him a worthy recipient.

I think many of us remember the young man who came into our school half-way through Grade 8 - quiet, unsure, with many challenges. Today he lights up our lives when he smiles, makes our teachers feel special because he is excelling. He is brave and courageous.

KERR CULTURAL AWARD is shared by 2 learners for their cultural performance in any cultural field .

This young lady recently won gold medals at the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists International Science Expo. She also won an award for being the top project in her category and a special award from lancet Laboratories. She competed against learners from all parts of South Africa and from other countries. She has now won five gold medals, three best category awards, three special awards from Lancet Laboratories. She represented South Africa at the International Science Expo held in Bratislavia and won a gold medal. She has done us proud.

This award goes to a young gentleman who is a true mathematician. He has got unique problem solving skills. He often comes up with alternate solutions that are derived from the basic principles in mathematics. His solutions are always set out logically and in such a way that shows deep insight into the concepts being tested. The probing questions he asks in class often leads to a better understanding by the other learners in the class. He is really a unique mathematics student.

This award is tonight shared by two young men.

The first is a young man with an extremely inquiring mind. Always finding ways to increase his knowledge and broaden his horizons. This young man shows a very serious side to the outside world, but that is to hide a wonderful, quirky, weird sense of humour. His love for Afrikaans is very evident in the results he has attained this year.

The second young man is equally at home in the subject. His Afrikaans vocabulary makes his creative writing pieces truly fascinating to read. He has attained excellent results throughout this year which makes him a worthy recipient of this award.
