During the Age of Storms, a terrible calamity opened a chasm between the is-lands of Albion (modern-day England) and Caledonia (now known as Scot-land). Since then, they have been divided by a rough stretch of water. Albion is an industrious land while Caledonia is an impassable land inhabited by fantastic creatures and wild nature. It is a very rich country and has always been targeted by Albion’s formidable navy and its attempts to conquer its lands. However Cal-edonia is protected by the Magic that is refined in the Academy of Magicians on the tiny island of Laknousta, to the extreme north. Ysall is the youngest daughter of humble Caledonian farmers and when two Ma-gician scouts come to look for her, everyone thinks it is a mistake. But Ysall as-toundingly passes the magic test and so wins a place in the Academy, where no girl had ever been admitted before. The journey to the magical island is long and full of ravenous wolves, kidnappers sent by a strange individual with a sil-ver earring, and enchanted woods. While the war between Caledonia and Albion looms, Ysall sets sail for the Academy, where she will have to fight against prej-udices, hostile fellow students, and dark intrigues. Luckily she will have Logan, a young magician who makes her heart beat in a new way…Her adventure is only just starting. Ysall raises her eyes above the prow of the sailing ship where the mists thin out and catches sight of the huge outline of a dragon, the Island of Laknousta.

A fantasy and historical reinterpretation of the British archipelago for a new breathtaking series

Scotland and England are separated by a rough stretch of water and are fighting a war against each other. Magic versus trade and wealth: which is the most powerful?

Among the blue houses of a small South African village, a grandmother starts to tell the story of a child called Nelson Mandela, who is known in the village as “the boy who shook trees” because he’s always getting up to mischief. It’s right here in the village of Qunu that his story began. To the rhythm of a grandmother’s voice the story of Madiba – the most beloved man in Africa – comes to life. His roots, his favourite fairy-tales, and the breath-taking games he played in the African countryside. This book tells us about the childhood and adolescence of Nelson Mandela, South Africa’s first coloured president, the man who put a stop to apartheid, the activist who served 27 years in prison for a dream of equality and freedom.

Once upon a time there was a young boy called Madiba, a child who became a great man

malala. The story

Malala. tHe StoRY• 184 pageshardcover w/jacket illustrations: PAOLO D'ALTAN

In 2009, at just eleven years old, Malala Yousafzai started to write a diary for BBC urdu under a pseudonym. She wrote about her daily life, the violence of the Tale-ban, and the injustices she and her school companions suffered as young girls. Then came the direct threats and, in the end, the attack. When she was fifteen, Malala received a gunshot to the head by a member of the Taliban. Her only crime was fighting for the right to education for girls. After the episode she moved to England with her parents. Thanks to her, many young girls are no longer afraid.

A novel telling the story of Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani girl who has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2013

“Every girl in swat is Malala.

We will educate ourselves.

We will win. They can’t defeat us.”

Classmates of malala

“The writing is clear and effective. The style reminds Malala’s blog that focuses on the difficulties, the suffering and the determination to hold on of Malala, a protagonist of her time. The final impression is that […] this is a reading addressed to children but recommended also to many grown-ups.” La Stampa

An extraordinary story told with an immediate and passionate voice and the accuracy of the documentary.

A brilliant example of the bravery of childood against the silence of grown-ups.

tHe SugaR Sea• 192 pageshardcover w/jacket cover: OTTAVIA BRuNO

For Ervin, det, the sea, is a friend he uses to play with. But when Ervin looks at the sea he also dreams of leaving Albania to go to Italy, the country where eve-ryone sings and is happy, as he sees on television. So, when the Vlora, “the sug-ar ship”, is hijacked by over twenty thousand Albanians and sets sail for Puglia, on the 7th August 1991, Ervin leaves, wearing only his swimsuit. For Luca u mare, the sea, reminds him of missed games of football on the beach and the loneliness of holidays at Torre Canne drawing imaginary friends, wait-ing for his beloved uncle Antuono. But when Luca looks at the sea he also feels the danger in it…One look was enough to see in each other’s eyes the same desire for freedom that lead two boys on an adventure that lasts just one night, an adventure of hand signals, dust, and stolen doughnuts. As words are not needed to make friends.

A touching story that tells the drama of thousands of people who leave their home, facing inhuman journeys, in the search for a better future

“Their eyes […] experience the same mysterious spark of complicity.

They are two twelve-year-olds on the run.

Ervin is naked, luca is clothed.

both are terrified.

They wanted freedom and they took it: and now what are they going to do with it?”

An old aoidos sits down amongst the children to tell a story, and the ancient Greek myths come to life. The young listeners hold their breath at the story of the pow-erful arms of Heracles, who strangles the lion’s roar. They are thrilled at the birth of Apollo, whose wails are mixed with the cries of seagulls, white flying flowers. They weep when Arachne is transmuted into an insect because she dared to chal-lenge the goddess Athena in the art of weaving. They depart for far-flung, legen-dary lands with Theseus, fly in the sky with Daedalus and Icarus, tremble with fear with Perseus before the terrible Medusa. He lives through again the most exciting episodes of Nihal’s life, he goes back over the most attractive and evocative places of the Overworld Lands, and so the patrons of the inn discovered how Nihal’s birth parents died, how the her-oine disappeared after defeating the armies of Tiranno, and finally they hear a disturbing story that no one would ever have imagined…
