Technology Integration Unit Outline Name: Wendy Momsen Project Title: Introduction to Edmodo Project Subject: Any Grade Level(s): 6 th Grade Essential Question: How can a social media website engage students in their own learning? Scaffolding Questions: How do you use Edmodo in the classroom? What can you do on Edmodo? What can’t you do on Edmodo? Assignment Summary: The teacher will guide students in signing up and learning how to use the online education social media web site Edmodo. They will learn and apply the different ways that they can submit work on the website. A computer lab or enough computers with internet connection is needed at a minimum of one computer for every two students to me most successful. Approximate Length of Unit (days, weeks) 4 Days recommended, one or two days a week for two to four weeks to learn how to set up and learn how to use Edmodo. After that time use of Edmodo should be fully implemented by teacher and students in daily/weekly class use. Goals & Objectives: Students will be able to: Sign up for the teachers Edmodo class group Personalize their own Edmodo Page Submit work in various media forms o Typed assignment o Attached Assignment o Embedded Widget Receive Teacher/Peer Feedback Provide clear feedback and/or comments to their classmates Lesson Plan Sequence of Events give day-to-day details: Day 1) Teacher should begin the first lesson with internet use reminder’s (follow district guidelines found in student binder reminder). Turning in an Assignment/Attaching a Document – The teacher will post the following

assignment on Edmodo prior to the students arriving to class.

Write a short paragraph about what you did over summer vacation and include a

picture in a Word Document. Then “attach” your Word Document using the

“attach: file” link.

Using the presentation slide show, the teacher will guide students in creating a word

document that includes a short paragraph and picture. The student will then attach the

document to the teacher’s wall and “turn in” the assignment.

Day 3) Utilize the “Edmodo – Day 3” Teacher Presentation

Using www.schooltube.com or another approved web site the teacher will guide students

in how to find an appropriate short video to embed onto the class Edmodo wall. Students

will watch other videos posted by their classmates and comment on at least three of the

videos.

Day 4) Utilize the “Edmodo – Day 2” Teacher Presentation

Using www.google.com to another approved search engine or website the teacher will

guide students in how to find an appropriate science web site to link to the class Edmodo

wall. Students will follow links posted by their classmates and comment on at least three

of the websites.

Students will familiarize themselves with the Edmodo calendar and learn to post a new

event to the calendar by adding their birthday.

Accommodations for Differentiated Instruction

Resource Student: Teacher can modify length or difficulty of final products as

needed based on ability of the student.

Gifted Student: Teacher can modify difficulty of final product as needed based on

ability of the student.

ELD Student: Student will be paired with bilingual student to aid in translation

as needed.
