‘MICE’ shift during ISIS User Run 15 October 2008

Objectives:

1. Do a brief shakedown run in preparation for the machine studies that will happen 18-19 October 2008. Magnets (D1, D2, Q1, Q2, Q3) will be powered and currents set for a 300 MeV/c pion beam. Target will be dipped to make sure that MICE dips on the appropriate ISIS cycle, and to see that the target DAQ still works. MICE DAQ will be turned on and run to ensure that DAQ timing with target is correct and that DAQ still works.

Preconditions: Permits to operate magnet power supplies Q1—Q3, D1, and D2 obtained;

Beam stop in position;

MICE Hall and DSA searched and locked.

Objectives:

1. Study beam loss and particle rate in MICE Muon Beam line as a function of target dip depth. Measurements to be taken with beam loss in Super Period 7 between 50 mV and 500 mV; and

2. Measure change in activation of synchrotron with MICE target operating at MS/128 and producing beam loss at the 200 mV level for a period of sixteen hours.

Preconditions: Permits to operate magnet power supplies Q1—Q3, D1,

and D2 obtained;

Dosimeters positioned as described below;

Beam stop in position;

MICE Hall and DSA searched and locked.
