every day, Family & children’s Services is honored to have the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of individuals and families across metro tulsa.

the past year was a pioneering one for F&cS as we ventured into unchartered territory to address the lack of adequate numbers of inpatient psychiatric beds in tulsa. the agency boldly responded and opened a 24/7 crisis respite unit and a 16-bed inpatient unit located in our organization’s new facility at 11th and houston. the need was so great that we were at near full capacity shortly after we opened.

Simultaneously, we inititated and completed a capital campaign to raise funds for the capital needs of the crisiscare center and to fund the relocation and expansion of the Women in Recovery program. We also grew services, implemented several new programs and increased partnerships to extend our reach to more people in need. the growing multidisciplinary staff of F&cS and a dynamic board of directors strengthen the core of our organization. to thrive, the board has initiated a strategic plan process to guide our future and to ensure that our foundation stays rooted in a commitment to excellence. We strive to be a great place to work where people are inspired to be their best and where those most in need receive the highest quality of care.

LOOKING TO THE FUTUREA dynamic board and staff strategic planning process is charting our future for the next five years. Looking ahead, we see numerous opportunities to expand the ways we help and increase the number of people we care for each year.

» The passage of the Affordable Care Act will eventually expand health care coverage and may dramatically increase the number of individuals F&CS can serve.

» We anticipate expanding integration of behavioral and physical healthcare because nearly 70 percent of adults with a severe mental illness have chronic medical conditions.

» To reduce suicide in our community, we will boost training across the agency in The Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS) approach, designed to effectively evaluate suicide risk and develop a suicide-specific, outpatient treatment plan.

» Women in Recovery will be on the move to its new location. This expansion means more room, more programs and more women in recovery.

» The implementation of a robust, agency-wide electronic health record system will increase patient participation, strengthen accuracy of diagnoses and treatment planning, improve outcome reporting, enhance care coordination and improve billing and collections.

» A comprehensive, wraparound service expansion will help hard-to-place children and youth with serious mental health issues who are involved in both the child welfare and juvenile justice systems.

CRISISCARE CENTER OPENS: Last October, we opened the doors to our new psychiatric CrisisCare Center for adults, which houses four critical crisis programs that provide rapid stabilization and includes an innovative 24-hour Crisis Respite Center, a new 16-bed inpatient unit, triage and assessment, and mobile crisis services.

COMMUNITY IN CRISIS CAPITAL CAMPAIGN SUCCESSFUL: We successfully reached an ambitious campaign goal of $6.5 million to fund the renovation of a new, two-story facility at 11th and Houston in downtown Tulsa. The facility houses our new CrisisCare Center on floor one and allows Women in Recovery to re-locate and expand on floor two.

ASSERTIVE COMMUNITY TREATMENT EXPANDS: We expanded our Assertive Community Treatment program by adding a new team to provide community-based 24/7 support to an additional 100 adults with serious mental illness. A psychiatrist, nurses, therapists and care managers deliver clinical and pharmacy services in the consumer’s home.

FAMILY PRESERVATION: In partnership with others in the region, we expanded our family preservation services to a total of 31 Northeastern Oklahoma counties. Vulnerable children and overburdened families involved in the child welfare system receive home-based services using the SafeCare Model, which emphasizes parenting, home safety and children’s health.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS GROW: We initiated innovative programs through multiple community partnerships with Legal Aid of Oklahoma, the Tulsa City County Library and the Tulsa Housing Authority to better serve the poor, homeless and mentally ill.

WOMEN IN RECOVERY EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM: Women in Recovery participants are benefitting from a new partnership with Tulsa Community College, which provides onsite classes for certification in business computer use and restaurant management with plans to expand in the computer, restaurant and hotel management fields and manufacturing industries.

GRADUATE STUDENT INTERNSHIPS: Last year, 49 graduate students from 10 area universities completed clinical internships throughout the organization’s counseling, children’s mental health, mental health and substance abuse programs.
