The theme : talk about the main idea on which your story is based.

The setting : Where does your story take place? (external or internal place, landmarks, scener e.t.c.)

When does your story take place? (time, season, year)

The main character : that is the protagonist in your story.

Other characters : talk about any other persons, animals or creatures/things that appear in the story




The plot : consider the events that occur in the storyand promote the main idea.Initial situation

What happens first?Which events happen next and changed the initial

situation?What is the main hero’s problem/adventure/question orwish that is resolved at the end of the story?Think of all the details.




B. Rising action – Climax What does the hero undergo/suffer to solve his

problem? What is the role of the other characters(partners or adversaries) in his effort?

1. Point of View

Stories teach lessons about life. What is the main point of the story? Do we make it clear? Do we narrate in 1st/2nd/3rd person? What is the perspective of the writer?

2. Dramatic question

It is a key question that keeps the viewers’ attention and will be answered by the end of the story.




3. Emotional content Serious issues, like love and loneliness, death and loss, acceptance and rejection come alive in a personal way, hold our emotions and attention

4. Voice Our voice is powerful. Using our own voice or the voice of our students in digital stories personalisesthe story and helps the audience

5. Sound Appropriate music and sound effects can embellish and add depth to the visual information.




6. Economy Using just enough content (images and other multimedia) to tell the story without overloading the viewer.

7.Pacing It is the rythm of the story, how slowly or quickly it progresses. A good story will move along at a comfortable pace. Not too fast not too slow.

Sharing examples of Digital Stories createsexpectations and sets models to the students.

The focus is on WRITING, not using technology. Thewritten script

is the foundation of the digital story, so it needspractice and shared editing.

Just like writing, assembling the components of thestory needs good organisation.




Students need to get familiarised with the resourcesthey will need to create their story.

The process of writing and creating needs aconsiderable amount of time.

Students need to plan ahead to achieve good resultswithin the set time limits.




Brainstorm. Collect/sort/decide which ideas to pursue. Select the project/story, and develop a plan to

execute it. Use an online collaboration resource. (:collaborative

workspace that enables students to work togetheron documents, PowerPoint presentations, and otherfiles via the web).




Select and distribute individual tasks that feed into thefinal outcome (such as directing the project, doinginterviews, researching images, and the initial draftingof text).

The meaning and power of myths. Students choose one myth, that they believe is

relevant to today’s world research it, discuss it, andthen write their own contemporary adaptation of it fortheir culture and their generation.

They then turn the text of the adapted myth into ascript, assign roles, and act out the myth while onestudent films them. They also create their own artworkto accompany




Caring for the environment.Students select an environmental problem in the schoolor community. Students design products that wouldeliminate the problem, such as clean cars, baby diapersthat disintegrate upon removal, or sun-poweredrefrigerators. They write text and add graphics toadvertise the product, and they highlight these in thefinal section of the photo story project. Each studentdelivers an audio ad to accompany the picture of theirproduct. They could also put together a catalog print itin color, and share or post it.
