NOTES

PERMEABLE PAVEMENT SYSTEM DESIGN INFORMATION IS PROVIDED IN CHAPTER 6.2.19 OF THE AUGUSTA STORMWATER MANAGEMENT MANUAL.

PLANNING/SITING

1. INTENDED FOR LOW TRAFFIC AREAS, OR FOR RESIDENTIAL OR OVERFLOW PARKING APPLICATIONS.

2. NOT IDEAL FOR AREAS WITH A TREE CANOPY (DUE TO CLOGGING).

3. NOT RECOMMENDED ON SITES WITH LOW PERMEABILITY SOILS, WELLHEAD PROTECTION ZONES, OR WATERSUPPLY AQUIFER RECHARGE AREAS.

4. SHOULD BE A MINIMUM OF 2 FEET ABOVE THE SEASONALLY HIGH GROUNDWATER TABLE AND/OR UNDERLYINGBEDROCK.

5. SHOULD BE A MINIMUM OF 10 FEET AWAY (DOWN GRADIENT) FROM BUILDING FOUNDATIONS, 100 FEET AWAYFROM PRIVATE WATER SUPPLY WELLS, 200 FEET FROM EDGE OF PUBLIC WATER SUPPLY RESERVOIRS, AND1,200 FEET FROM PUBLIC WATER SUPPLY WELLS.

6. MINIMUM SOIL INFILTRATION RATE OF 0.5 IN/HR, OR UNDERDRAIN IS REQUIRED. CONDUCT INFILTRATION TESTINGPER APPENDIX D SECTION D.2.1 INFILTRATION TESTING.

DESIGN

1. DIMENSIONS LISTED ARE MINIMUMS. ENGINEER MUST SPECIFY PAVEMENT REQUIREMENTS BASED ON SITECONDITIONS, GEOTECHNICAL REPORT, AND PAVER MANUFACTURER'S DESIGN RECOMMENDATIONS.

2. MINIMUM GRAVEL BASE COURSE DEPTH = 12" WASHED DRAINAGE STONE (ASTM D448 #57 AGGREGATE) OROTHER APPROVED MATERIAL.

3. USE NON-WOVEN GEOTEXTILE ON SIDES OF STONE SUB-BASE STORAGE LAYER. USE GEOGRID AS NEEDED FORDESIGN.

4. UPTURNED "S" UNDERDRAIN SHALL BE USED TO RECEIVE RRv CREDIT FOR RUNOFF CAPTURE AND STORAGE.STONE STORAGE LAYER SHALL DRAIN WITHIN 48 HOURS. MINIMUM PIPE DIAMETER IS 4".

CONSTRUCTION INSPECTION, PROTECTION, AND MAINTENANCE

1. PERMEABLE PAVEMENT SYSTEM MUST BE CLEARLY MARKED ON DEVELOPMENT PLAN AND A NOTE TO PROTECTWITH TEMPORARY CONSTRUCTION FENCING.

2. DURING EXCAVATION, HEAVY MACHINERY SHALL NOT DRIVE OVER EXPOSED UNDERLYING SOILS.

3. EXCAVATE IN DRY CONDITIONS AS MUCH AS PRACTICABLE.

4. USE TRACKED VEHICLES OR LOW GROUND PRESSURE VEHICLES.

5. EXCAVATION MUST BE CONSTRUCTED TO SPECIFIED WIDTH AND DEPTH OF PERMEABLE PAVEMENT SYSTEM, ANDTO THE LINES AND GRADES INDICATED ON THE DRAWINGS. STOCKPILED MATERIAL SHOULD BE CLEARLY STOREDAWAY FROM EXCAVATION.

6. EXCAVATE FINAL 9"-12" WITH TEETH OF BUCKET (DO NOT SMEAR).

7. NATIVE SOILS ALONG BOTTOM OF THE PERMEABLE PAVEMENT SYSTEM SHALL BE TILLED OR SCARIFIED (NOTCOMPACTED) TO MINIMUM DEPTH OF 3"-4" PRIOR TO PLACEMENT OF CHOKER COURSE AND SUBBASE-STORAGELAYER.

8. SIDES OF EXCAVATIONS MUST BE TRIMMED OF LARGE ROOTS THAT WILL HAMPER INSTALLATION OF FILTERFABRIC AROUND THE STONE STORAGE.

9. NO. 57 STONE BASE SHALL BE COMPACTED UNTIL THERE IS NO VISIBLE MOVEMENT.

10. ADEQUATE EROSION CONTROL MUST BE PROVIDED. SEDIMENT LADEN STORMWATER SHALL NOT BE ALLOWED TOFLOW IN THE PERMEABLE PAVEMENT AREA.

11. NO MULCH OR LANDSCAPING STORAGE SHALL BE ALLOWED ON THE PAVEMENT AREAS.

12. PERMEABLE PAVEMENT MUST BE TESTED AFTER CONSTRUCTION. AFTER PLACEMENT AND APPROPRIATE CURINGOF STRUCTURAL PAVEMENT SURFACE (7 DAYS FOR PERVIOUS CONCRETE AND 48 HOURS MINIMUM FOR POROUSASPHALT HARDENING), TEST INFILTRATION ABILITY BY APPLYING CLEAN WATER AT A RATE OF AT LEAST 5 GPMOVER SURFACE. THE WATER APPLIED TO THE SURFACE SHOULD INFILTRATE WITHOUT CREATING PUDDLES ORRUNOFF.

13. ADEQUATE SIGNAGE FOR THE PERMEABLE PAVEMENT AREA SHALL BE PROVIDED.

14. A LEGALLY-BINDING INSPECTION, PROTECTION, AND MAINTENANCE AGREEMENT SHALL BE PROVIDED.

15. EXAMPLE CHECKLISTS ARE PROVIDED IN APPENDIX F IMP INSPECTION CHECKLISTS.
