MODERN DOCTORAL RESEARCH TRAINING
Who we are
Our goals
Membership
www.iGRAD.eu;
The iGRAD – Interdisciplinary Graduate and Research
Academy Düsseldorf – is a facility for all doctoral
researchers and supervisors at the Faculty of Mathematics
and Natural Sciences. iGRAD furthermore is the umbrella
organization and network platform of numerous structured
doctoral training programs and research networks of the
Heinrich Heine University. iGRAD members benefit from
counseling and a variety of other services all around
doctoral research.
Work-related and societal demands on early stage
researchers are continuously increasing and even exceed
sole scientific training. Therefore iGRAD promotes optimal
and transparent research and scientific qualification
conditions. This goal is achieved by not only supporting
intensive supervision of doctoral researchers but also, in
cooperation with other central facilities of the HHU, by
organizing a broad qualification program in career-relevant
skills.
Next to all doctoral researchers of the Faculty of
Mathematics and Natural Sciences who can become iGRAD
members in close consultation with their supervisors,
supervisors themselves can also become iGRAD members.
Additionally an institutional membership is possible for all
structured doctoral research programs and research
networks.

After your studies … Before your doctoral research
Getting a doctoral degree
Orientation and Counseling
You are about to take, or already took the first milestone on
your way to a successful career by graduating from your
studies at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences?
Now you are thinking about a scientific career or a leading
position in industry? Then a dissertation is the right choice.
If you decide for a dissertation, the Heinrich Heine
University offers you a broad range of possibilities to get a
doctoral degree. You can either get a doctoral degree as
individually supervised doctoral researcher or as researcher
in structured programs as offered in research training
groups, graduate or research schools. All dissertation types
have in common the intensive and individual focus on a
specific research topic of approximately 3-4 years. The
doctoral research phase is completed with a written
dissertation and an oral examination.
In the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences the
iGRAD – Interdisciplinary Graduate and Research Academy
– offers its doctoral researchers a variety of counseling and
qualification programs. No matter if you are interested in a
doctoral degree or if you are already in your research phase,
feel free to contact us in the iGRAD-Office. We are looking
forward to seeing you and assisting you in planning your
career.
