    DESIGN DESCRIPTION

This is one of Serge Castellas favorite projects, a home on the shores of Lake Geneva in

Switzerland1940s mansion owned by clients who asked him to re-sculpt the property into

something that reflected todays time and style. The clients knew what they wanted, but

couldnt precisely dene it. They wanted to dene their home as sophisticated, modern,

comfortable interiors, rooms that were different. Fortunately, the property owners possess

a body of paintings, sculptures, and drawings. He complemented these pieces with items

from notable designers like Juan and Paloma Garrido, Serge Mouille, Jean Royre, Angelo

Brotto, and de Sede. Serge often describes this project as one in perpetual motion. The

globetrotting owners seldom miss the opportunity to bring home a new treasure, perhaps a

contemporary work from a prominent Lebanese artist, a sculpture by Jean Franois Lalanne,

or a pair of chairs by Jacques Adnet. Their home is in continual movement, evolving with

    each new acquisition.

For the houses grand salon, the works of art already in place were so vibrant that Serge

felt it important to create a more neutral environment. But he stressed, neutral does not

mean bland or banal. It was important to introduce furnishings that would complement one

another. Various unique adornments show the charm of personality and art. The Buddha

sculpture creates a quiet atmosphere and makes the blundering mood calm. The picture

behind it gives people an extremely strong visual impact, it looks like a stretch of cracked

land that makes one feel desolate. The vertical lamp by Robert Stadler looks like a vine, its

enchanting gestures present a kind of simple style fashion trend. The joint type sofa and

gray crosshatch sofa are very special, their gently beautiful modellings bring stylish and

    comfortable feelings.

    Frank Gehry

The entire entry hall is lacquered in what he characterizes as an elephant gray, set off with a

white border and silver-leafed moldings. The stairway's forged-iron and chrome banister heighten

the overall effect. An imposing tenth-century stone Buddha provides a powerful symbolic welcome

to the space, while the unique contemporary chair is by Frank Gehry, such ancient art and modern

design are just like a pair of good friends who are talking intimately.

The master placed lots of mask works from pre-Colombia

age and African tribes, various kinds of cultures combine

harmoniously and create infinite glamour. The stone work

behind the sofa is from Bugatti, the mesh artwork on it is very

imaginative and highlights a contemporary feeling. The blue

artistic lamp and carpet brighten the whole space and let it

    more colorful.

The magnificent purple tone accomplishes the hostess's dream of dining room, the ancient

furniture and contemporary art reach a very good balance. The magnificent 1940s amethyst-

hued chandelier from Maison Bagus is noble, gorgeous and looks like an artwork shinning in

the air. The new decorative style dining chairs show a luxurious feeling with the concise lines.

The beautiful patterned carpet lets the originally elegant space more splendid. An eighteenth-

century Italian settee adds to the room's casual sophistication. In addition, different items such

as the real masks of pre-Columbia age on the table, the table lamps beside the sofa, paintings,

purple sculptures and so on, all inject strong artistic atmosphere inside, the dining room seems to

    become an art gallery.
