DATABASE

• Tools for analysis of content domain.

• Used to identify the underlying themes that structure knowledge.

The students were then responsible for placing the information in a data base. The students had a better understanding of the exact make up of the school such as the ratio of boys to girls, age range & voting predictions (by Dionne).

As a math teacher, I feel the following modeling domain knowledge computer programs are a big asset to better learning strategies. For example, as a project in Pre -AP math I asked my students to gather information about the past Presidential election.

Levels of analysis the student will experience when using this tool:• Analytical process : Occurs

when students seek out and organize information in the database

• Reflective and relational : Occurs when students ask questions about information in the database (e.g: how one field relates to others?)

After conference, we had to count how many participants attended and can make comparison with last conference in order to know the success of the conference. I agree that spreadsheet is useful to make quantitative model (by Haekyoung).

While I was working, spreadsheets helped me to organize the participants who attended the conference that we held. There was an application form for the conference, and they filled in.

• The main objective of visualization tools is to help people interpret or represent ideas.

• Visualization tools can

provide access to numerous data at a click of a tab.

- Visualization tools can be used for numerous investigations such as: learning mathematics, weather reports, geography, and chemistry.

In EDFN 5302, the professor explained about the demographic change, especially population. At that time, he uses graphics for us to have better understanding. I agree that if he used only numbers, I would be distracted to understand (by Haekyoung).

HYPERMEDIA

- Hypermedia are multimedia programs that are hyper linked together. - Any professional website is a great example of hypermedia, because it is organized information linked by hyperlinks.

For most Americans, we use hypermedia almost everyday to access information regarding the weather, bank account information, news, education, and so many other inquisitions (by Dionne).

When learners use computer based modeling tools to interpret and represent ideas, they actual perform better on knowledge test than those who used traditional methods.The use of databases, concept maps, spreadsheets, visualization tools, and hypermedia allow students to construct a better understanding.
