General DescriptionThe DN40 thru DN200, Model DV-5 Deluge Valves are diaphragm type valves used as “automatic water con-trol valves” in deluge fire protection systems. When properly trimmed, the DV-5 Valves are also able to provide actuation of fire alarms upon system operation.
The diaphragm style design of the DV-5 Valve allows external resetting — providing for easy resetting of a deluge system without having to open a valve handhole cover to manually reposition a clapper and/or latch mechanism. Simply re-pressurizing the diaphragm chamber resets the valve.
The DV-5 also features internal and external coating of the valve to pro-vide corrosion resistance. The exter-nal corrosion resistance of the Rilsan coating permits the use of the DV-5 in corrosive atmospheres associated with many types of industrial process-ing plants and outdoor installations.

Deluge Valve: Components for the DN40 thru DN200, Model DV-5 Deluge Valves are shown in Figure 1. The DV-5 Valves are for vertical installations. They are rated for use at a service pressures of 1,4 to 16,0 bar, except that the DN50 has a minimum operating pressure of 2,0 bar, and the minimum residual pres-sure for sizes DN40 thru DN200 must be 2,0 bar for flow velocities greater than 8,5 m/s.
The take-out dimensions are shown in Figure 2, and the flanged connections are available drilled per ANSI, ISO, AS, and JIS specifications (Ref. Table A).
The DV-5 Valves are provided with ISO 7/1 threaded ports that will readily accept the trim arrangements detailed in this Technical Data Sheet.

Operating PrinciplesThe Model DV-5 Deluge Valve is a diaphragm style valve that depends upon water pressure in the Diaphragm Chamber (Ref. Figure 3A) to hold the Diaphragm closed against the water supply pressure. When the DV-5 Valve is set for service, the Diaphragm Chamber is pressurized through the trim connections from the inlet side of the system’s stop valve. Opening an actuation device, for example the so-lenoid valve in the Electric Actuation Trim (Ref. Figure 6), releases water from the Diaphragm Chamber faster than it can be replenished through the 3,2 mm restriction within the Automat-ic Shut-Off Valve provided in the dia-phragm chamber supply connection. Release of water pressure results in a rapid pressure drop in the Diaphragm Chamber and the force differential ap-plied through the Diaphragm to hold the Diaphragm in the set position is reduced below the valve trip point. The water supply pressure then forces the Diaphragm open permitting water to flow into the system piping, as well as through the Alarm Port to actuate the system alarms (Ref. Figure 3B).

Wet Pilot ActuationThe Wet Pilot Actuation Trim forms a part of the laboratory approval of the DV-5 Valves and is necessary for their proper operation.
The Wet Pilot Actuation Trim provides for connection of a detection system consisting of wet pilot line sprinklers (heat detectors) and manual control stations interconnected with minimum DN15 steel pipe. The pilot line is con-nected to the Wet Pilot Line Connec-tion shown in Figure 4.
Installation dimensions are provided in Figure 19 (Page 26).
Pilot sprinklers are to be minimum 80 K-factor orifice approved automatic sprinklers. Manual Control Stations are to be the Model MC-1 described in Technical Data Sheet TFP1382.
The maximum height of a wet pilot line above the DV-5 Valve must not exceed the limitations shown in Table B (Page 9) as a function of the minimum water supply pressure to the DV-5 Valve for an equivalent length (pipe plus fittings) of the pilot line up to 150 meters to the most remote pilot sprinkler.
Provision must be made for installing a 80 K-factor orifice, Inspector’s Test
Connection at the most hydraulically demanding location of a wet pilot line (usually adjacent to the highest and most remote wet pilot sprinkler or manual control station).
NotesWet Pilot Lines must be maintained at a minimum temperature of 4°C.
At a minimum, it is recommended that internally galvanized pipe and cast iron fittings be used for wet pilot lines.

Dry Pilot Actuation The Dry Pilot Actuation Trim forms a part of the laboratory approval of the DV-5 Valves and is necessary for their proper operation.
The Dry Pilot Actuation Trim provides for installation of a detection system consisting of pilot sprinklers (heat de-tectors) and manual control stations interconnected with minimum DN15 steel pipe. The dry pilot line, which is to be pressurized with air or nitrogen, is connected to the “Dry Pilot Line Connection” shown in Figure 5.
Installation dimensions are provided in Figure 19 (Page 26).
Pilot sprinklers are to be minimum 80 K-factor orifice approved automatic sprinklers. Manual Control Stations are to be the Model MC-1 described in Technical Data Sheet TFP1382.
The Dry Pilot Actuation Trim is provid-ed with a Model DP-1 Dry Pilot Actu-ator, which is described in Technical Data Sheet TFP1380. The Actuator is rated for use at a maximum pilot ser-vice pressure of 3,4 bar and a maxi-mum water supply service pressure of 16 bar.
Graph B (Page 9) shows the “minimum pilot line service pressure” as a func-tion of the water supply pressure. The pressure in the dry pilot actuation sys-tem must be automatically maintained using one of the following maintenance devices, as appropriate.
• Model AMD-1 Air Maintenance De-vice (pressure reducing type), refer to Technical Data Sheet TFP1221.
• Model AMD-2 Air Maintenance De-vice (compressor control type), refer to Technical Data Sheet TFP1231.
• Model AMD-3 Nitrogen Mainte-nance Device (high pressure reduc-ing type), refer to Technical Data Sheet TFP1241.
Supervision of the pressure in the dry pilot actuation system and an alarm that separately indicates operation of the detection system is provided by a low pressure alarm switch set as follows:
• Low pressure alarm setting at ap-proximately 0,4 bar below the mini-mum pilot line service pressure re-quirement shown in Graph B (page 9).
• Fire alarm setting at approximately 1,0 bar below the minimum pilot line service pressure requirement shown in Graph B (Page 9).
The Dry Pilot Low Pressure Switch may be ordered as option with the valve trim or separately ordered.
The Pressure Relief Valve provided in the trim is factory set to relieve at a pressure of approximately 3,1 bar; however, it may be field adjusted to a lower pressure, if required.
The dry pilot line is to be provided with low point drains to enable draining on condensate.

Electric Actuation The Electric Actuation Trim forms a part of the laboratory approval of the DV-5 Valves and is necessary for their proper operation.
The Electric Actuation Trim is required for electric operation of the DV-5 Valve by a detection system consisting of electrical devices such as heat sen-sitive thermostats, smoke detectors, and/or electric manual pull stations.
Installation dimensions are provided in Figure 19 (Page 26).
The Solenoid Valve provided in the valve trim (P/N 52-287-1-124 described in TFP2180) is rated as follows:
• Pressure: 17,2 bar
• Voltage: 24 VDC
• Power Consumption: 22 Watts
• Current Draw: 0,83 Amps
Notes Approval by VdS and LPCB is contin¬gent on the use of the Solenoid Valve provided with the valve trim. VdS and LPCB only approve solenoid valves for use in non-hazardous locations.
Consult with the applicable standards of the Approval agency regarding in-stallation criteria pertaining to electric actuation circuitry.
The Electric Actuation Trim is provided with a Model ASV-1 Automatic Shut-Off Valve; consequently, the release circuit of the releasing panel need only provide the standard ten minutes of alarm condition intended to energize the Solenoid Valve to open. After the ten minute duration, at which point should the Solenoid Valve become de-energized and close (especially while operating under battery back-up), the Automatic Shut-Off Valve will have already automatically closed, there-by preventing the DV-5 Diaphragm Chamber from becoming re-pressur-ized, and preventing an inadvertent closing of the DV-5 during a fire event.

InstallationNotes
Proper operation of the Model DV-5 Deluge Valves depends upon their trim being installed in accordance with the instructions given in this Techni-cal Data Sheet. Failure to follow the appropriate trim diagram may prevent the DV-5 Valve from functioning prop-erly, as well as void approvals and the manufacturer’s warranties.
The DV-5 Valve must be installed in a readily visible and accessible location.
The DV-5 Valve, associated trim, and wet pilot lines must be maintained at a minimum temperature of 4°C.
Heat tracing of the DV-5 Valve or its associated trim is not permitted. Heat tracing can result in the formation of hardened mineral deposits that are ca-pable of preventing proper operation.
The Model DV-5 Deluge Valve is to be installed in accordance with the fol-lowing criteria:
Step 1. All nipples, fittings, and de-vices must be clean and free of scale and burrs before installation. Use pipe thread sealant sparingly on male pipe threads only.
Step 2. The DV-5 Valve must be trimmed in accordance with one of the trim illustrations shown in Figures 7 thru 18, as applicable.
Step 3. Care must be taken to ensure that check valves, strainers, globe valves, etc. are installed with the flow arrows in the proper direction.
Step 4. Suitable provision must be made for disposal of drain water. Drainage water must be directed such that it will not cause accidental dam-age to property or danger to persons.
Step 5. Connect the Diaphragm Sup-ply Valve to the inlet side of the sys-tem’s Stop Valve in order to facilitate setting of the DV-5 Valve (Ref. Figure 19).
Step 6. An Inspector’s Test Connec-tion, as described in the Wet Pilot Actu-ation and Dry Pilot Actuation sections (Pages 6 and 7), must be provided for Wet or Dry Pilot Actuation systems.
Step 7. An Air Maintenance Device, as described in the Dry Pilot Actuation section (Page 7), must be provided for Dry Pilot Actuation.
Step 8. A desiccant dryer, when spec-ified for Dry Pilot Actuation, is to be in-stalled between a drip leg and the Air Maintenance Device.
Step 9. The Low Pressure Alarm Switch for Dry Pilot Actuation is to be adjusted as follows:
• Low pressure alarm setting at approx-imately 0,4 bar below the minimum pilot line service pressure requirement shown in Graph B (Page 9).
• Fire alarm setting at approximately 1,0 bar below the minimum pilot line service pressure requirement shown in Graph B (Page 9).
Step 10. The Pressure Relief Valve pro-vided with the Dry Pilot Actuation Trim is factory set to relieve at a pressure of approximately 3,1 bar, which can typi-cally be used for a maximum dry pilot actuation system pressure of 2,8 bar. The Pressure Relief Valve may be re-set; however, it must be reset to relieve at a pressure which is in accordance with the requirements of the authority having jurisdiction.
To reset the Pressure Relief Valve, first loosen the jam nut and then ad-just the cap accordingly — clockwise for a higher pressure setting or coun-ter clockwise for a lower pressure set-ting. After verifying the desired pres-sure setting, tighten the jam nut.
Step 11. Conduit and electrical con-nections are to be made in accor-dance with the applicable standards of the Approval agency.
Step 12. Before a system hydrostatic test is performed, the DV-5 Diaphragm Chamber is to be depressurized, the Automatic Drain Valve is to be tem-porarily replaced with a plug, and the Diaphragm Cover Bolts must be uni-formly and securely tightened using a cross-draw sequence. After tight-ening, double-check to make certain that all of the Diaphragm Cover Bolts are securely tightened.

Valve Setting ProcedureSteps 1 through 10 are to be per-formed when initially setting the Mod-el DV-5 Deluge Valve; after an op-erational test of the fire protection system; or, after system operation due to a fire. Refer to Figure 4, 5, or 6, as applicable.
Step 1. Close the Stop Valve (B).
Step 2. Close the Diaphragm Sup-ply Valve (P). For Dry Pilot Actuation, close the Dry Pilot Air Supply Valve (T).
Step 3. Open the Alarm Test Valve (G), System Drain Valve (E), and all auxiliary drains in the system. Close the auxiliary drain valves after water ceases to discharge. Leave the Alarm Test Valve (G) and System Drain Valve (E) open.
At this time make certain that the Pressure Gauge Valves and the Alarm Control Valve (H) are open.
Step 4. Depress the plunger of the Automatic Drain Valve (F) to verify that it is open and that the DV-5 Valve is completely drained.
Step 5. Clean the Diaphragm Supply Strainer (Q) by removing the clean-out plug and strainer basket. The Di-aphragm Supply Strainer (Q) may be flushed out by momentarily opening the Diaphragm Supply Valve (P).
Step 6. Reset the actuation system.
Manual Actuation — Push the operat-ing lever up; however, do not close the hinged cover at this time.
Wet Pilot Actuation — Replace oper-ated pilot sprinklers and/or reset the remote manual control stations.
Dry Pilot Actuation — Replace oper-ated pilot sprinklers and/or reset the remote manual control stations. Rees-tablish dry pilot pneumatic pressure.
Electric Actuation — Reset the elec-tric detection system in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions to de-energize the solenoid valve.
Note In order to prevent the possibility of a subsequent operation of an over-heated solder type pilot sprinkler, any solder type pilot sprinklers that were possibly exposed to a temperature greater than their maximum rated am-bient must be replaced.
Step 7. Open the Diaphragm Supply Valve (P) and allow time for full pres-sure to build up in the DV-5 Diaphragm Chamber.
Step 8. Operate (open) the Manual Control Station (M) to vent trapped air from the DV-5 Diaphragm Chamber. If necessary, first open the hinged cover, and then fully pull down on the operat-ing lever. SLOWLY close the operat-ing lever, by pushing it up, after aer-ated water ceases to discharge from the Manual Control Station. Close the hinged cover and insert a new break rod in the small hole through the top of the enclosing box.
For Wet Pilot Actuation, crack open the Inspector’s Test Connection and any other vent valves on the wet pi-lot line to relieve trapped air. After the discharge of air has stopped, close the vent valves and the Inspector’s Test Connection.
Step 9. Verify the ability for the DV-5 Diaphragm to hold pressure as follows:
With the diaphragm chamber pressur-ized per Step 8, temporarily close the Diaphragm Supply Valve (P), and then observe the Diaphragm Gauge (K) for a drop in pressure.
If a drop in pressure is noted, the DV-5 Diaphragm is to be replaced and/or any leaks must be corrected before proceeding to the next step.
If the Diaphragm Chamber Pressure Gauge (K) indicates no drop in pres-sure, re-open the Diaphragm Sup-ply Valve (P) and proceed to the next step.
Step 10. Partially open the Stop Valve (B). Close the Alarm Test Valve (G) as soon as water discharges from the System Drain Valve (E) and then close the System Drain Valve (E) after wa-ter ceases to drain. Observe the Au-tomatic Drain Valve (F) for leaks. If there are leaks, determine/correct the cause of the leakage problem. If there are no leaks, the DV-5 Valve is ready to be placed in service and the Stop Valve must then be fully opened.
Notes If the Alarm Test Valve is not closed as soon as water discharges from the System Drain Valve, a false alarm may occur.
When the Stop Valve (B) is opened, the pressure on the DV-5 Diaphragm Chamber may increase. This increase in pressure is normal, and if the pres-sure is greater than 16 bar, the pres-sure is to be relieved by partially and temporarily opening the Manual Con-trol Station (M); however, do not allow the pressure as indicated on the Dia-phragm Gauge (K) to drop below the supply pressure shown on the Water Supply Gauge (J), since this action may result in tripping of the DV-5 Valve.
After setting a fire protection system, notify the proper authorities and ad-vise those responsible for monitor-ing proprietary and/or central station alarms.

Care and MaintenanceThe following procedures and inspec-tions must be performed as indicat-ed, in addition to any specific require-ments of the standards recognized by the Approval agency, and any impair-ment must be immediately corrected.
Note The frequency at which the following procedures and inspections are to be performed are to be in accordance with any specific requirements of the standards recognized by the Approval agency.
The owner is responsible for the in-spection, testing, and maintenance of their fire protection system and de-vices in compliance with this docu-ment, as well as with the applicable standards recognized by the Approv-al agency. The installing contractor or product manufacturer should be con-tacted relative to any questions.
It is recommended that automatic sprinkler systems be inspected, test-ed, and maintained by a qualified In-spection Service in accordance with the standards recognized by the Ap-proval agency.
Note Before closing a fire protection system main control valve for maintenance work on the fire protection system that it controls, permission to shut down the affected fire protection systems must first be obtained from the prop-er authorities and all personnel who may be affected by this action must be notified.
Drop In Water Supply Pressure Below Normal Range
Note If the water supply pressure is signifi-cantly reduced below the normally ex-pected static pressure range (as could occur in the case of a water main break or repair), and there is a subse-quent drop in the diaphragm chamber water pressure below its normal range (due, for example, to a leak in a piping connection to or from the diaphragm chamber or, a leak in the diaphragm chamber check valve caused by dirt or debris in the check valve seal area), a deluge valve such as the Model DV-5 could inadvertently trip, if its water supply pressure is quickly restored.
A drop in the water supply pressure to below its normal range (as in the case of an interrupted water supply condition) constitutes an emergency impairment.
Should this condition occur, immedi-ately close the stop valve and utilize the following procedure to reset the system:
Step 1. Prior to the water supply pres-sure being restored to the closed stop valve, note the pressure indicated by the diaphragm chamber pressure gauge and determine if the pressure is within the normally expected range.
Step 2. If the diaphragm chamber pressure is below the normal range, check for and correct any source of leakage from the diaphragm chamber prior to resetting the system.
Step 3. After the water supply pres-sure is restored to the stop valve, reset the Model DV-5 Deluge Valve in accor-dance with the Valve Setting Proce-dure section.
Note For fire protection systems subject to an emergency impairment caused by an interrupted water supply condition, it is recommended that consideration be given to installing a low water sup-ply pressure switch with the appropri-ate alarm/indications to monitor the water supply pressure.
Internal Valve Inspection During the operational test proce-dure and prior to the DV-5 Valve be-ing reset, the interior of the DV-5 Valve must be cleaned and inspected for wear and damage. Damaged or worn parts must be replaced. (Replacement of the Diaphragm every ten years is recommended.)
When reinstalling the Diaphragm Cover, the Diaphragm Cover Fasten-ers must be uniformly and secure-ly tightened using a cross-draw sequence. After tightening, double-check to make certain that all of the Diaphragm Cover Fasteners are se-curely tightened.
Notes If the water supply contains chemicals which tend to attack a Nylon fabric re-inforced, natural rubber or the five year inspection indicates a build-up of de-bris within the valve that could affect its proper operation, then the frequency of the internal valve inspection proce-dure must be appropriately increased.
With reference to Figure 1, make cer-tain that the Diaphragm is correctly oriented; otherwise, the DV-5 cannot be properly set.
Under-tightening the Diaphragm Cov-er Bolts can result in leakage past the valve seat as indicated by leakage from the Automatic Drain Valve.
Waterflow Alarm Test Procedure To test the waterflow alarm, open the Alarm Test Valve (G), which will allow a flow of water to the Waterflow Switch (C) and/or Water Motor Alarm. Upon satisfactory completion of the test, close the Alarm Test Valve (G).
Wet Pilot Actuation Operation Test Procedure Proper operation of the DV-5 Valve (i.e., opening of the DV-5 Valve as dur-ing a fire condition) must be verified as follows:
Step 1. If water must be prevented from flowing beyond the riser, perform the following steps.
• Close the Stop Valve (B). Open the Alarm Test Valve (G) and System Drain Valve (E).
• Open the Stop Valve (B) one turn beyond the position at which water just begins to flow from the System Drain Valve (E).
• Close the Alarm Test Valve (G) and then close the System Drain Valve (E).
Step 2. Open the Inspector’s Test Connection.
Note Be prepared to quickly perform Steps 3, 4, and 5, if water must be prevented from flowing beyond the riser.
Step 3. Verify that the DV-5 Valve has tripped, as indicated by the flow of wa-ter into the system.
Step 4. Close the Main Control Valve (D).
Step 5. Close the Diaphragm Supply Valve (P).
Step 6. Reset the DV-5 Deluge Valve in accordance with the Valve Setting Procedure.
Dry Pilot Actuation Operation Test Procedure Proper operation of the DV-5 Valve (i.e., opening of the DV-5 Valve as dur-ing a fire condition) must be verified as follows:

Step 1. If water must be prevented from flowing beyond the riser, perform the following steps.
• Close the Stop Valve (B). Open the Alarm Test Valve (G) and System Drain Valve (E).
• Open the Stop Valve (B) one turn beyond the position at which water just begins to flow from the System Drain Valve (E).
• Close the Alarm Test Valve (G) and then close the System Drain Valve (E).
Step 2. Test the deluge releasing panel in accordance with the manufactur-er’s instructions to energize the sole-noid valve.
Note Be prepared to quickly perform Steps 3, 4, and 5, if water must be prevented from flowing beyond the riser.
Step 3. Verify that the DV-5 Valve has tripped, as indicated by the flow of wa-ter into the system.
Step 4. Close the system’s Main Con-trol Valve (D).
Step 5. Close the Diaphragm Cham-ber Supply Control Valve (P).
Step 6. Reset the DV-5 Deluge Valve in accordance with the Valve Setting Procedure.
Dry Pilot Actuator Test Procedure For Dry Pilot Actuation Proper operation of the Dry Pilot Ac-tuator for dry pilot actuation must be verified as follows:
Step 1. Close the Stop Valve (B).
Step 2. Open the Alarm Test Valve (G) and the System Drain Valve (E).
Step 3. Open the Inspector’s Test Connection on the Dry Pilot Line.
Step 4. Verify that the flow of water from the Dry Pilot Actuator (R) drain connection increases to a full flow.
Step 5. Verify that the Diaphragm Chamber pressure has decreased to below 25% of the water supply pressure.
Step 6. Close the Inspector’s Test Connection and allow the dry pilot line pressure to re-establish. Check the Dry Pilot Actuator (R) drain for leaks. Any leaks must be corrected before proceeding to the next step.
Step 7. Partially open the Stop Valve (B). Close the Alarm Test Valve (G) as soon as water discharges from the System Drain Valve (E) and then close the System Drain Valve (E) after water ceases to drain. Observe the Automat-ic Drain Valve (F) for leaks. If there are leaks, determine/correct the cause of the leakage problem. If there are no leaks, the DV-5 Valve is ready to be placed in service and the Stop Valve (B) must then be fully opened.
Low Pressure Alarm Test Proce-dure And Condensate Drain Proce-dure For Dry Pilot Actuation For Dry Pilot Actuation, testing of the Dry Pilot Low Pressure Switch (S) and drainage of the pilot line condensate must be performed as follows.
Step 1. Close the Stop Valve (B).
Step 2. Close the Diaphragm Supply Valve (P).
Step 3. Open the Alarm Test Valve (G) and the System Drain Valve (E).
Step 4. Open the Inspector’s Test Con-nection, and slowly relieve pneumatic pressure. Verify that the Dry Pilot Low Pressure Switch (S) is operational and that the low pressure set points are as follows:
• Low pressure alarm setting at ap-proximately 0,4 bar below the mini-mum pilot line service pressure re-quirement shown in Graph B.
• Fire alarm setting at approximately 1,0 bar below the minimum pilot line service pressure requirement shown in Graph B.
Step 5. Close the Inspector’s Test Connection and allow the Dry Pilot Line to automatically repressurize.
Step 6. Individually open each low point drain and then close after dis-charge of any trapped condensate.
Step 7. Allow the Dry Pilot Line to au-tomatically repressurize.
Step 8. Open the Diaphragm Supply Valve (P).
Step 9. Partially open the Stop Valve (B). Close the Alarm Test Valve (G) as soon as water discharges from the System Drain Valve (E) and then close the System Drain Valve (E) after water ceases to drain. Observe the Automat-ic Drain Valve (F) for leaks. If there are leaks, determine/correct the cause of the leakage problem. If there are no leaks, the DV-5 Valve is ready to be placed in service and the Stop Valve (B) must then be fully opened.
Solenoid Valve Test Procedure For Electric Actuation Proper operation of the Solenoid Valve for electric actuation must be verified at as follows:
Step 1. Close the Stop Valve (B).
Step 2. Open the Alarm Test Valve (G) and the System Drain Valve (E).
Step 3. Test the deluge releasing pan-el in accordance with the manufactur-er’s instructions to energize the sole-noid valve.
Step 4. Verify that the flow of water from the Solenoid Valve drain connec-tion increases to a full flow.
Step 5. Verify that the Diaphragm Chamber pressure has decreased to below 25% of the water supply pressure.
Step 6. Reset the electric detection system in accordance with the manu-facturer’s instructions to de-energize the solenoid valve. Check the Solenoid Valve drain for leaks. Any leaks must be corrected before proceeding to the next step.
Step 7. Partially open the Stop Valve (B). Close the Alarm Test Valve (G) as soon as water discharges from the System Drain Valve (E) and then close the System Drain Valve (E) after water ceases to drain. Observe the Automat-ic Drain Valve (F) for leaks. If there are leaks, determine/correct the cause of the leakage problem. If there are no leaks, the DV-5 Valve is ready to be placed in service and the Stop Valve (B) must then be fully opened.

The foregoing warranty is made in lieu of any and all other warranties, ex-press or implied, including warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.
This limited warranty sets forth the ex-clusive remedy for claims based on failure of or defect in products, materi-als or components, whether the claim is made in contract, tort, strict liability or any other legal theory.
This warranty will apply to the full ex-tent permitted by law. The invalidity, in whole or part, of any portion of this warranty will not affect the remainder.

Description
Stop Valve
I. Normal conditions:
The Stop Valve (B) is opened and locked. • The System Drain Valve (E) is
closed. • The Diaphragm Supply Valve (P) and
Alarm Control Valve (H) are open. • The Manual Control Station (M) and
Alarm Test Valve (G) are closed. • Water Supply Gauge (J) reads the
upstream water pressure. • The System Gauge (L) reads zero. • The Diaphragm Gauge (K) is equal
to or greater than the Water Supply Gauge (J).
II. Operation
When set for service, the DV-5 Dia-phragm Chamber is pressurized from the inlet side of the Stop Valve (B). Opening of the Manual Control Sta-tion (M) or a Wet Pilot Sprinkler (fire detection) releases water from the Di-aphragm Chamber faster than it can be replenished through the Automat-ic Shut-Off Valve (N). The water sup-ply pressure then forces the DV-5 Dia-phragm open permitting water to flow into the system piping, as well as to the Waterflow Switch (C).
III. Removing system from service:
Step 1. Close the Diaphragm Supply Valve (P). Step 2. Close the Stop Valve (B). Step 3. Open the Alarm Test Valve (G) and System Drain Valve (E).
IV. Placing the system back in service:
Step 1. Close the Stop Valve (B). Step 2. Close the Diaphragm Supply Valve (P). Step 3. Open the Alarm Test Valve (G), System Drain Valve (E), and all auxilia-ry drains in the system. Close the aux-iliary drain valves after water ceases to discharge. Leave the Alarm Test Valve (G) and System Drain Valve (E) open. Step 4. Depress the plunger of the Au-tomatic Drain Valve (F) to verify that it is open and that the DV-5 Valve is completely drained. Step 5. Clean the Diaphragm Supply Strainer (Q). Step 6. Reset the actuation system. Manual Actuation — Push the operat-ing lever up; however, do not close the hinged cover at this time. Wet Pilot Actuation — Replace operat-ed pilot sprinklers and/or reset the re-mote manual control stations. Step 7. Open the Diaphragm Supply Valve (P) to pressurize the DV-5 Dia-phragm Chamber. Step 8. Open and then close the Manual Control Station (M) to vent trapped air from the DV-5 Diaphragm Chamber. Relieve trapped air from the wet pi-lot line. After the discharge of air has stopped, close the vent valves and the Inspector’s Test Connection.
Step 9. Temporarily close the Dia-phragm Supply Valve (P), and then ob-serve the Diaphragm Gauge (K) for a drop in pressure. If the Diaphragm Chamber Pressure Gauge (K) indicates no drop in pres-sure, re-open the Diaphragm Sup-ply Valve (P) and proceed to the next step. Step 10. Partially open the Stop Valve (B). Close the Alarm Test Valve (G) and then close the System Drain Valve (E) after water ceases to drain. Observe the Automatic Drain Valve (F) for leaks. If there are no leaks, the DV-5 Valve is ready to be placed in service and the Stop Valve must then be fully opened.
V. Weekly test:
Important: Prior to closing any valves or activating any alarms, notify local security guards and the central alarm station if applicable. Step 1. Open the Alarm Test Valve (G), verify that the alarm signal created by the Waterflow Switch (C) is visible at the fire panel. If applicable, check the sound of the water motor alarm — it must be clear and steady. Step 2. Return the Alarm Test Valve (G) to the normally closed position af-ter verifying that the alarm signal is vis-ible at the fire panel. Step 3. Drain the alarm line by squeez-ing the Automatic Drain Valve (F). If the supply is below the normal, use the in-structions from the water supply to ob-tain the usual pressure.

Leave the Alarm Test Valve (G) and System Drain Valve (E) open. Step 4. Depress the plunger of the Au-tomatic Drain Valve (F) to verify that it is open and that the DV-5 Valve is completely drained. Step 5. Clean the Diaphragm Supply Strainer (Q). Step 6. Reset the actuation system. Manual Actuation — Push the operat-ing lever up; however, do not close the hinged cover at this time. Dry Pilot Actuation — Replace oper-ated pilot sprinklers, reset the remote manual control stations, and open the Dry Pilot Air Supply Valve (T) to re-es-tablish dry pilot air pressure as indicat-ed on the Dry Pilot Line Gauge (U) per the graph. Step 7. Open the Diaphragm Supply Valve (P) to pressurize the DV-5 Dia-phragm Chamber. Step 8. Open and then close the Manual Control Station (M) to vent trapped air from the DV-5 Diaphragm Chamber.
Step 9. Temporarily close the Dia-phragm Supply Valve (P), and then ob-serve the Diaphragm Gauge (K) for a drop in pressure. If the Diaphragm Chamber Pressure Gauge (K) indicates no drop in pres-sure, re-open the Diaphragm Sup-ply Valve (P) and proceed to the next step. Step 10. Partially open the Stop Valve (B). Close the Alarm Test Valve (G) and then close the System Drain Valve (E) after water ceases to drain. Observe the Automatic Drain Valve (F) for leaks.
