New England Colonies

Colonies included: New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut

Important attributes: Best Seaports Ship Building Growing Industry Subsistence

Growing Industry

There were three major industries in New England: Shipbuilding Industry Fishing Industry Lumber Industry

These ways provided supported the New England Colonies

Ship Building

The large coastline provided a good source of fish.

Due to this, and the excessive wood nearby, the New England Colonies were very good shipbuilders.

These ships also assisted in trading with nearby countries and England, as well as the slave trade.

Best Seaports

Due to the huge shipbuilding business, there were many seaports that were being built.

New England had the best seaports (especially Boston) so typically that’s where the bigger boats, and boats from other places would dock.

Middle Colonies

Colonies include: New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware

Important attributes: Good Farmland Settled by Quakers Many Pacifists Most Diverse

Good Farmland

The middle colony had rich farmland that they were able to plant crops on.

Six to seven moths of warm weather and sufficient rain.

They used the rivers as a method to transport goods that they had such as fur, lumber and food that they sold for profit

Settled by Quakers

William Penn was a Quaker, who settled in the America’s

Pennsylvania was named after him and boomed under his supervision.

Philadelphia was the center of the colony

Many Pacifists

Pacifists created a peaceful vibe to the middle colonies

They did not fight against England They also did not pay taxes if they

believed that it would go towards fighting

Most Diverse

The diversity in the Middle Colonies increased the efficiency of the Middle Colonies

An example is Germans who migrated to the middle colonies were extremely good at farming.

Southern Colonies

Colonies Include: Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia

Important Attributes: Plantations Many Slaves Many people Settled for profit

Plantations

Plantations were the main income for the Southern Colonies

“Cash Crops” were planted to significantly increase the income

Exported many of the products to other places, another good form of income

The series of religious revivals among Protestants in the American colonies, especially in New England, lasting from about 1725 to 1770.

An intellectual and scientific movement of 18th century Europe which was characterized by a rational and scientific approach to religious, social, political, and economic issues

The Age of Enlightenment led directly to the American Revolution and French Revolution and strongly influenced the Industrial Revolution.
