Ohio lags behind much of the country when it comes to well visit rates for our adolescents. As pediatricians and family physicians, you know it can be difficult to get these pre-teens and teens into your office. In addition, many parents and your staff are asking questions about the difference between the available meningococcal disease vaccinations.

The Ohio AAP is thrilled to offer an innovative program, Ohio QI2U - MenB that uses a model called “Practice Coaching.” Many have come to view primary care practices as complex systems, each with unique stories, staff, patient populations, systems, technology and challenges. The “one size fits all” model does not thrive in each unique environment. Most importantly, quality improvement implementation requires extensive customization in order to foster sustainable change.

This customization, in turn, necessitates understanding the context and opportunities for change including:

• Customized quality improvement training tailored to your practice’s context, at your convenience, with a motivational practice coach trained to lead you through the pre-work, training and data collection process

• Assistance with data collection, if desired• Unique access to outside experience and shared information from other clinics through the practice coach’s field work• Optimum use of the physician and staff time with customized, monthly virtual meetings• Educate you and your staff on meningococcal disease and the vaccines available to prevent them• Proven strategies to increase immunization rates and well visit rates in your practice

Additional benefits:

• MOC Part IV for eligible physicians• American Board of Pediatrics MOC Part II Credit for completion of an online self-assessment• Multiple opportunities for office incentives• Invitation to a summit at the conclusion of the collaborative to share successes and strategies for sustainability

Rolling enrollment for Ohio QI2U - MenB begins in January 2017. Go to www.ohioaap.org/Ohio-QI2U-MenB for more information. To pre-enroll NOW, go to www.ohioaap.org/ohio-qi2u-menb-qida-enrollment.

Bringing QI Right to You!

What parents see in the hospital can have a great influence on what they do at home—parents who see their baby supine in the nursery are nearly twice as likely to continue the practice at home. Despite this, research continues to show that more than half of healthcare providers are not following safe sleep guidelines for inpatient infants. The Ohio AAP EASE Project addresses this gap in care.

Ohio AAP invites you to increase the modeling of safe sleep behaviors in your hospital setting through the Education and Sleep Environment (EASE) project. EASE will launched on-demand and is now available for physicians and healthcare professionals in children’s, birthing and community hospitals to improve the modeling of safe sleep environments for infants during their hospital stays.

The benefits of early detection and treatment of vision problems in young children go far beyond good eye health. High-quality vision screenings during the routine well child care visit can also help prevent learning difficulties, emotional issues, neurological problems and developmental delays. As a children’s health care provider, your role is vital in assuring that they all have access to high-quality vision screening. The Ohio AAP, again partnering with Prevent Blindness Ohio and the Ohio Department of Health, is offering an updated Preschool Vision Screening (PVS) Learning Collaborative. The program provides tools and technical assistance to support practices in providing age- and developmentally-appropriate vision screening for preschool children ages 3-5 years old, but now featuresonline and on-demand resources, saving physician and staff time, with learning as your schedules permit!

Injuries are the number one cause of morbidity and mortality among children in the United States. In children less than one year of age, these injuries are most commonly caused by motor vehicle collisions, drowning, physical abuse, and inappropriate sleep positioning and environments. An important part of every well-child visit is to educate families about these risks, equipping them to make changes to their environment and practice safer behaviors, all with the goal of reducing/preventing these unintentional injuries. The Ohio AAP developed 2 tools to assist pediatric providers in screening families to identify injury risks, as well as provide specific talking points to improve discussions.

Using a new and innovative platform, pediatricians participating in Wave 4 will have the opportunity to participate in an online quality improvement project using QIDA (Quality Improvement Data Aggregator), making it possible for you to complete a project at a pace that fits your busy schedule! In addition, you

have the opportunity to earn 10 points of MOC Part II credit and 25 points of MOC Part IV credit!

The Parenting at Mealtime and Playtime (PMP) program, introduced in early 2014, was designed by pediatric experts and health care providers as a Quality Improvement initiative to provide physicians with strategies to enhance counseling during well child visits for children birth to 5 years old. As many are now aware, research reveals that a kindergartener’s weight is a strong indicator of adult weight, indicating the critical window for achieving a healthy weight is younger than previously thought. The goal of PMP is to realize a shift towards earlier intervention in children at risk for overweight through physician discussions with families.

Join the ranks of nearly 30 PMP trained practices as PMP unveils exciting and accessible opportunities for physicians in Wave 4 of the program. Standardize your assessment of obesity risk and hone your skills on patient-centered counseling as you view our online webinars featuring nationally recognized speakers. Original and enhanced resources include parent handouts on nutrition and physical activity, a mobile app with age-specific information for families to access anytime, and a convenient pocket guide for physicians to reference during the well child visit.

Learn how to build and strengthen the Parent/Child and Parent/Provider Relationship – all from the comfort of “home” – or your office – and get MOC Part IV and Part II credit FREE to all Ohio AAP Members.

The Good4Growth MOC Part II Self-Assessment and MOC Part IV Learning Collaborative focuses on improving relationships -- relationships of the physician/parent and parent/child.

By completing this program, you as a pediatrician will: • Learn how to support the “dyadic dance” between caregiver and child such as smiling, cooing, and feeding• Learn how to strengthen your “therapeutic relationships” with families since pediatricians know we are only effective to the

degree that parents trust us to help their children • Learn how to build “parental confidence and comfort” in their abilities

For Wave 2, the Good4Growth team has NOT ONLY shortened the length of time of the project and redefined the measurement and data collection requirements, but now we are also offering a learning session that is completed entirely from your office or home via webinar.

In addition, you will learn:• How to incorporate Maternal Depression Screening in your practice AND get reimbursed for it• How to incorporate food insecurity questions into your practice and be provided with resources to share with your families to

help them if needed• How to work with families and answer their questions, and provide them with Good4Growth handouts on feeding and sleeping,

toxic stress, positive discipline strategies and building resiliency in children

By particpating, your office will receive:• Gift cards and funding for your office staff to help with the work• Assistance with data collection, if needed, by an Ohio AAP staff member• FREE MOC Part II and IV credit• The confidence that YOU have helped build safe, stable and nurturing relationships with your patients and families.

LIVE Webinar Friday, October 21. Recorded version available to watch at your convenience between October 21 - October 31.
