Pathfinder Multi Academy Trust includes one large
secondary school and 9 primary schools. We are
seeking a mobile multi-skilled tradesperson to join
our team as soon as possible, who will be used across
all of our schools to assist with general maintenance,
decorating, basic plumbing and electrical work, car-
pentry, renovations and landscaping.
The successful candidate must be willing and able to
work in any of our schools, all of which are in York.
We are therefore looking for someone who enjoys
variety and is flexible, adaptable and can work well
with others. We are looking for someone who will
take a pride in their work and make sure our schools
are a safe environment for children to be taught in.
The successful candidate will be required to travel in
their own vehicle for work purposes and will need
appropriate vehicle insurance and we will pay 45
pence per mile for work travel.

Main Purpose of Job
To work in collaboration with the Site Managers at the schools within the Trust, in making sure that buildings and grounds are in proper working order, whilst maintaining a safe and fit for purpose environment for all users of the premises.
Core Responsibilities, Tasks and Duties
• Repairs and maintenance ensuring fixtures and fittings are in good working order
• Minor electrical works including changing light bulbs, fuses etc.
• Minor plumbing and carpentry
• Clearing or cleaning general areas
• Moving furniture or equipment
• Assembling furniture or equipment
• Garden/landscape installation and maintenance
• Footpath maintenance
• Painting and decorating
• Clearing gutters and drains
• Maintaining property exteriors as necessary
• To cover for School Site Managers during periods of absence, which may necessitate opening schools at the beginning of the day and closure in the evenings
• To assist with ensuring all compliance activities are completed in a timely manner using the Trust’s digital online tool
Supervision/Management of People
No. reporting Direct: None Indirect: Contact with contractors in respect of access, security, progress against their contract/programme of work and general conduct whilst on site.
Creativity and Innovation
The work is generally covered by guidelines and policies but does require the postholder to be involved in the improvement of systems and the development of procedures within their areas of responsibility.

Contacts and Relationships
Internal: Comes into regular contact with cleaning staff and other school / MAT staff. Most issues will
usually be on well established matters.
External: Comes into contact with suppliers and contractors, Education, planning and building
professionals, parents, members of the public, the Fire Service and Police service.
Most of the relationships are straightforward although there may be a need for the postholder to negotiate with contractors over site access, balancing the need to minimise disruption to school activities whilst still allowing building projects to progress according to the programme.
Decisions - Discretion and Consequences
Discretion: Makes decisions about the day to day running of the school premises within clearly defined procedures. Many decisions are dictated or influenced by risk assessment, Health and Safety legislation and school protocols. Consequences: Ensures the efficient operation of the school site with minimal disruption to the provision of education. Also ensures that the premises are available for hire if required which may provide additional income for the school.
Resources
Keyholder responsible for the proper use and safekeeping of school buildings and grounds, plant and machinery, may also include vehicles e.g. school minibus.
Work Environment
Work demands: The work is subject to change and interruption. Will also require travel between schools that form part of the Pathfinder MAT Physical demands: Work requires normal physical effort with periods of substantial effort involved in the maintenance of the entire site. Working conditions : Work involves significant elements of inside or outside work involving some exposure to unpleasant or difficult surroundings e.g. ladder work, boiler house, drains etc Work context : May involve contact with potentially hazardous substances eg chemicals, but training and protec-tive equipment is given where appropriate.
Knowledge and Skills
The post holder needs a good level of practical skills in the following areas:
• Safe use of ladders and platforms
• Qualification and/or experience of Plumbing, Bricklaying, Tiling, Painting and Electrical works
• Manual handling techniques
• Ability to work at height
• Ability to work in confined spaces
• Safe use of power tools
• Locksmith techniques
• Cleaning and maintenance of floor coverings and use of specialist equipment Needs to have a good awareness and knowledge of:
• Health & Safety legislation and the practical implications
• COSHH issues
• Electrical safety
• Safe disposal of sharps
• Waste disposal procedures
• School protocols, policies and procedures
Additional Notes
• The annual leave entitlement for this post is 24 days, rising to 29 days on completion of 5 years’ continuous service. In addition to the statutory public holidays.
• The successful candidate will need to be able to maintain and develop satisfactory working relationships with all visitors to schools.
• The successful candidate will need to comply with the MAT’s Health and Safety Policy and undertake risk assessments and checks as appropriate.
