time for care giving.

1999The Policy visualizes that the State will extend support for financial security, health care, welfare and other needs of older persons, provide protection against abuse and exploitation, make available opportunities for development of the potential of older persons, seek their participation, and provide services so that they can improve the quality of their lives.
▪ Steps undertaken for the empowerment of older persons so that they can acquire better control over their lives and participate in decision making.
▪ Arrangements being made to provide specialization in geriatric medicine in medical colleges, nursing, public & private hospitals.
▪ Statutory body with the powers of a judicial court has been proposed for senior citizens.
▪ PRESENCE OF hundreds of NGOs, OLD AGE HOMES, RETIREMENT HOMES throughout the length and breadth of India.
▪ Provision of website and helplines.
▪ Organizing of various senior citizen events such as marathon etc to keep the elderly as much involved and active, thus helping them live a more fulfilled life.
▪ Celebration of October 1st as ‘International Senior Citizen’ Day to celebrate their importance in the society.
▪ Vayoshrestha Samaans, to eminent senior citizens involved in rendering distinguisehed services for the cause of elderly persons, especially indigent senior citizens.
