(Principal’s Message continued from page 1) Applications for Geographic Exceptions for SY 2017-18 MoHS will accept Geographic Exception (GE) applications for school year 2017-2018 from January 1, 2017 to March 1, 2017. In accordance with Section 8-13-7, a chance selection or lottery will be held in April 2017 should the number of applications exceed the number of available spaces. It is important to remember that a new GE application must be submitted for a student who is interested in moving from a middle school to a high school. For example, if you presently live outside of the Moanalua geographic area, have a child in grade 8 attending Moanalua Middle School on a GE, and are interested in your child attending Moanalua High School next year, a new GE application must be submitted to Moanalua High School. However, if your child already attends Moanalua High on an approved GE and wishes to continue here, a new GE application will not be required. In accordance with Section 8-13-7, “Priority 1" reasons for a geographic exception include: DOE programs with admission requirements. "Priority 2" reasons for geographic exceptions include: a desire to study a curriculum program offering (not available at a home school), a sibling already attending school as an underclassmen, a child of staff member, and an authorized physical residence. All other reasons are considered "Priority 3" reasons. Once again, the deadline for GE applications is March 1, 2017 and should the number of applications exceed the number of available spaces, a lottery will be held in April, 2017. It is essential that applications are turned in before the March deadline for a request to be considered for the selection process. Please be informed that (1) an approved geographic exception will later be revoked if any information included in the application is found to be false and (2) falsification of a G.E. form is a misdemeanor offense (H.R.S. Section 710-1063).” Applications are available at all schools. For more information, please call 305-1000. Best wishes for the holiday season! Robin Martin, Principal

SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE From now until the end of July, the Student Government officers are holding a school supply drive. Initially, whatever is collected will be donated to our complex schools: Moanalua, Red Hill, Salt Lake, and Shafter Elementary Schools as well as Moanalua Middle and High School, but if we have a large surplus, we will donate to the rest of the State’s public schools. Although we will accept ANY supply donations, the following specific supplies are most needed: Back-packs Paper Towel Rolls Colored Markers Pens (black, blue, red ballpoint) Colored Pencils Pens (Sharpie) Composition Books (non-spiral) Portfolio (with pockets) Crayons (16, 24 or 48) Protractor Filler Paper (college or wide ruled) Rulers (12” with standard and metric) Glue/Glue Sticks School Supply Box Hand Soap Scissors (blunt or sharp) Highlighters (broad tip) Three-Ring Binders (1” – 1 ½”) Index Cards (3 x 5) Tissue (a.k.a. “Kleenex,” 200+ count) Liquid Paper/Correction Tape Wood #2 Pencils Please note that this is not a class competition or a contest to see who can bring the most. We just want to do something for our fellow younger students in our community who, because of the present economy, are in need so they can start off the school year right. You may bring donations to the S.A. Room, T4, or drop them off in the school office. Thank you in advance for your generosity!

FAQs on MOHS Project Grad

1. What is Project Graduation? Project Graduation is for classmates to get together one last time before heading off to future endeavors. The Fun-Filled overnight event is Alcohol & Drug-Free and fully chaperoned to keep our students safe.

2. Why do we have Project Graduation? The night of graduation is the riskiest time for teenagers to be on the road nationwide. By keeping graduates in a safe and fun environment, Project Graduation has reduced the number of fatalities occurring on graduation night.

3. Does Project Graduation receive school subsidies? No! We do not receive any funding from the school. We need to raise funds, starting from the Freshmen year to Senior year and pool our fundraising so each graduating class can hold a Project Graduation Event every year.

4. What’s the difference between MOHS Project Graduation United and the Project Graduation Committee for the Graduating Class? We all make up MOHS Project Graduation !! Project Gradutaion United steers the fundraising efforts needed to fund the event(besides registration fees, other funds are needed). The Project Graduation Event Committee plans and implements the annual event for the graduating class. Volunteers help in one or both
