Mindless Hoons Rip Up Karo Park
Some mindless hoons had their
kicks by ripping up Karo Park and
the High School top ground early
Saturday morning.
To get in they cut through three
chains and padlocks and a further
chain and padlock to get into the
High School grounds before
doing wheelies and skids on the
grass. This is the second attack
on the High School in the last few
weeks.
These hoons came prepared with
cutting gear so it was not a spur of the moment decision. Inglewood High Principal
Rosey Mabin said "They might get a half hour thrill out of it, but it has an impact and
effect on the whole community‖.
Inglewood Cricket Club chairman David O'Sullivan said the vandalism would affect all
10 teams in the club. Saturday's games in Inglewood were cancelled as a result of the
vandalism, combined with patchy weather.
"It's just gutting really when you put the work into a club and then half an hour of
stupidity by a couple of idiots can ruin it for a lot of people, from junior right through
to premier cricket."
David O'Sullivan said preparing a grass wicket took hours and hours of work and the
time needed to repair the damage was worse than the financial cost.
Constable Darren Hayes said on Monday that there was no further progress made
and if someone wants to contact him anonymously that's fine with him as he "wants
to get these guys". He called on their friends or any witnesses to come forward.
"Surely they have some mates that play sport, that play football or cricket, and are
angry at what these guys have done".

Thank you for the enthusiastic
reception given to the new rag.
Thanks to Colette Bates for touching
up our logo. The Moa is healthier now.
Our paper now has a name, we
received close to 200 suggestions. The
final selection was ‗Moa Mail‘.
Regardless that the Inglewood District
apparently has never had any Moa, the
area was called the ‗Moa Block‘, the
IDT logo is a Moa in front of the
mountain and bush. Our former Dairy
Company was named Moa then Moa-
Nui.
This paper fo l lows numerous
Inglewood publications.

Shade-by the River
It‘s amazing what knowledge mankind
searches for through the ages. My
grandfather said that his lifetime had
seen the most changes made in
technology – but that‘s not the word he
would have used. He lived through the
horse drawn days, the advent of the
motor car, air flight and even to a
manned landing on the moon; so maybe
he was right.
Scientists are now trying to find out
how the Universe was made, with
theories ranging from creation to the
big bang. They have even built
kilometres of tubes through which they
want to send particles of matter at
colossal speeds in opposite directions
so that they collide and reproduce the
big bang that made the Universe to
prove that theory. I hope they don‘t
succeed, or they will put and end to
global warming and we will all be
consumed into a new bigger Universe.
I often wonder, ‗Why do we need to
know all the answers?‘ We know that
our world is here because we are living
in it. What is the benefit of knowing
how it was made? We are not likely to
make another one and ride it off into
the sunset.
Makes you think doesn‘t it!

Cubs remain popular with good num-
bers. The latest project was the building
of bookshelves (with dads help). Plans
were available though most seemed to
come up with their own. Painting was in
different colours and the boys were
proud of what they produced, a great
bonding session. Cub‘s start again on 19
October.
Scout numbers are growing and recently
they had an awesome camp at Okato
under canvas, Friday night it rained but
the rest of the weekend was fine. The
boys had a great time small bore and clay
bird shooting, flaming soccer ball, beach
cleanup, bonfire (roasting marshmal-
lows). Special thanks to Kelvin Gray
from the rifle range.

Anglican Church Restructuring in Taranaki
As part of the ongoing changes
within the Anglican Church in
Taranaki there are some changes
affecting Inglewood and North
East Taranaki.
The last vicar of Inglewood, Rev
Gary Husband left, during
September to take up a position as
Vicar of Pio Pio.
It is unlikely there will be a full
time replacement position based
in Inglewood in the foreseeable
future.
The parishes of Waitara and Bell
Block/Lepperton are in similar
circumstances.

The Vicar of Waitara having re-
signed in June 2009. Bell Block/
Lepperton has been without a
minister for 18 months.
The restructuring involves ap-
pointing a Regional Dean who will
responsible for the three par-
ishes.
Archbishop David Moxon and
Bishop of Taranaki Philip Richard-
son announced on Sunday that
the first Regional Dean of North
East Taranaki is the Venerable
Valerie Riches. Val is currently
Vicar of Taumarunui-Ohura and
Archdeacon of Waitomo.
The role of the Regional Dean,
whilst leading some services
within the region, is largely that of
an enabler/trainer to facilitate
more locally led ministry.
Val is expected to formally take
up her role at the beginning of
February 2010.
A substantial increase in workload
for voluntary workers within the
church has already occurred due
to these changes but the commu-
nity can rest assured that it is
business as usual for St Andrews.
No cutbacks are envisaged in any
of the services on offer, and the
phone will continue to be an-
swered. A Local Priest (who will
work on a part time voluntary
basis) is expected to be an-
nounced in the near future. This
person will be responsible for all
the ―Priestly‖ functions such as
weddings & funerals for example.
The presence of Val Riches in
North East Taranaki is expected
to significantly increase the profile
of the Anglican Church in
Taranaki and builds on a system
put on place in Central Taranaki
two years ago. South Taranaki is
expected to adopt a similar ar-
rangement in 2010.
Margaret Austin The Inglewood community was
saddened recently when Margaret
Austin passed away. Margaret, and her
husband Peter, who died twelve years
ago, were outgoing and vital people
who contributed much to their town.
Both worked for St Andrews Church
and shared their talents in any way
they could - Peter on his lathe,
Margaret in the choir, for many years.
Margaret was also a performer in
other local choirs, and on stage.

She loved to sing and her enthusiastic
participation in many musicals and music
halls with Inglewood Dramatic Society
(Cue Theatre), is remembered fondly by
those who worked with her. Her
kindness, cheerfulness and devotion to
her family and friends endeared her to all.
A quote from Gilbert and
Sullivan Opera seems fitting,
since Margaret sang their
songs with much joy ..."Death
when ere it comes must
come too soon". But such
memories remain!
