OBJECTIVES
• Instructor and lesson plan development focusing on the 3G’s
• GPS, Geographic Information Technologies (GIS) and Geocaching
• Primarily in STEM (Science, Technology Engineering and Math) Projects
SUMMARY of EXPERIENCE
• Experienced presenter at national and international forums and is comfortable with complex material including scientific, technical and government terminology; an engineering background with a commanding and authoritative voice
• Uses grant money to develop and teach GPS (also stands for Great for Public Schools) Workshops, in a primarily STEM environment
• Course Instructor at Applied Technology Institute (ATI) for a class designed for engineers, aviation experts and project managers who wish to enhance their understanding of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS)
Prince George’s Community College (PGCC)
April 2008
TAUGHT a GPS Workshop at PGCC for second year in a row (and scheduled again for Spring of 2009)
Result: Louis C. Renaud, Interim Dean, STEM Division, wrote to me in an email, “Thanks for your instruction in the GPS workshop last week. Your assistance in providing a better understanding of this tool is most appreciated. We will attempt to pursue further instruction in GPS as time and money permit.”

ADAPTED a workshop for a MD Home School Class of primarily middle school students
Result: My seventh workshop was well received by the students who showed enthusiasm and determination to find all the hidden caches using only latitude and longitude

PIONEERED instruction of GPS for the faculty at PGCC at the STEM (Science, Technology Engineering and Math) Collegian Center in 2007
Result: The contracts administrator was so impressed when she heard about the workshop while ordering the units; she came out on a Saturday morning (on her own time) to attend and I was invited back again for 2008
Active Member ofToastmasters International
EARNED Competent Communicator and Competent Leader Certificates from local club of Toastmasters International
Result: Won speech contest with a talk titled, “Going Geocaching” and represented my club at the Area level competition
Bowie State University(BSU)
November 2006
CONVINCED Bowie State University to fund my fifth GPS Workshop under the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL)
Result: Dr. Gail Medford, Office of the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, wrote to me in an email, “Thank you for offering to conduct this exciting workshop.”
West Virginia University(WVU)
July 2006GAVE BACK to my alma mater using
GPS in the “The Engineers of Tomorrow Program” (one of only 10 in the United States) for WV high school students
Result: Even though I was not included in their original grant proposal, Dr. Winn liked my previous efforts to teach GPS and he found a way to include it in his 2006 curriculum
Article in theBowie Blade Newspaper
AUTHORED article in February 2006 for my local newspaper, The Bowie Blade
Result: The editor agreed to publish my first story saying, “It will run as soon as I have room. It's quite interesting.”
Bowie City Hall Buys GPS Units
COORDINATED follow-on endeavor between Bowie City Hall and Bowie High School (BHS)
Result: City Hall agreed to use the rest of my grant money to buy the remaining GPS units for an after school geocaching project involving several teachers and their students
Continuing Education Credits (CEC)

INSTRUCTOR for GPS Technology for Teachers Workshop
Result: The high school teachers were very pleased with free lesson plans, a FREE Garmin eTrex GPS and Continuing Education Credits
Corporate SponsorshipSaturn of Bowie
INVITED the General Manager of the local Saturn of Bowie car dealership to co-sponsor my GPS Workshop
Result: Only the coordinates of the dealership were given as part of a class exercise on entering Latitude/Longitude into the GPS units, if they successfully navigated there, they were rewarded with a $25 Gift Certificate from Staples
US GPS Industry Council
PERSUADED the Head of the US GPS Industry Council to personally ask Garmin International to offer me an educational discount on the purchase of GPS units
Result: Secured a substantial discount for GPS purchases from Garmin both now and in the future
City of Bowie Grant
AWARDED a community grant in August 2005 from the City of Bowie, MD for a GPS “Technology for Teachers” Workshop
Result: At the end the Workshop, the GPS units will be given away to the teachers to keep and for their continuing use in the classroom
Cold Call to Bowie State University
TEAMED with Professor Bill Lawrence and Bowie State University after a cold call, to apply for a Community Grant to conduct a GPS seminar for Bowie teachers
Result: We were awarded the grant and arranged for the teachers to gain Continuing Education Credits (CECs)
ATE Grant in San DiegoApril 2005
PRESENTED “The GIS Workshops for Teachers” as part of an ATE grant that was administered by Dr. Katie Klinger, Director of Grants and Research, National University System in San Diego, California
Result: Both the material on the history of navigation and the GPS lesson plans were well received by the teachers
