Happy Summer to you all!!! We are ready for an amaz-ing summer here at the
Chamber. Our fi reworks show is in the making again to be the best in the County on Friday, July 4th! We are also planning for our Style Show Luncheon coming up in August again featuring the “Real Men of Montgom-ery County”. Along with these great events and our monthly networking
opportunities we continue our strategic planning process. As most of you are aware, we started this process last October
with our Board of Directors, then our consultant interviewed com-munity leaders individually and other Chamber members within focus groups in March. Th e outcomes were amazing as both the fi ndings with the Board were mirrored by the fi ndings with this latest group. So there is validity in our next steps and the thoughts and beliefs of the Board represented what our members said. Th at is what we want and have in our Chamber Board and I am proud to serve with them.
Th e areas of focus that our Chamber will be concentrating on will be:
• Business / Entrepreneurial Development• Voice of Business (Advocacy)• Workforce / Talent Development • Membership Services & Development• Evolving into a “Model Organization”• Telling Our Story (How to market ourselves more effi ciently)
We understand that there are topics such as Education, Water, Mobility and Healthcare that are not listed, but those important items fall under the areas of focus above. So please do not think those items are not part of our work. Th ey will be at the forefront of what we do.
Th is process will not happen overnight, but the board and staff of your Chamber will be implementing goals and measurable ob-jectives to meet each of these during the next 3 years.
Th anks for your continued support of us and we look forward to raising the bar on our service to you and our community.
All the best,

Entergy Texas, Inc. is not only part of the chamber's Emerald Club, but they are also a charter member, having joined in 1934 with the start of the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce.
Entergy Texas, Inc. delivers electricity to more than 420,000 customers in 27 counties. It is a subsidiary of Entergy Corporation. Entergy is an integrated energy company engaged primarily in electric power production and retail distribution operations. Entergy owns and operates power plants with approximately 30,000 megawatts of electric generating capacity, including more than 10,000 megawatts of nuclear power, making it one of the nation’s leading nuclear generators. Entergy delivers electricity to 2.8 million utility customers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
In addition to its presence as a business leader in Montgomery County, Entergy also gives back in a big way with “Kids on the Lake”. Th is annual event, put on in partnership with Conroe Noon Lions Club, truly showcases the company's commitment to making a real diff erence in the lives of families in Montgomery County.
“Kids on the Lake” is an annual fi shing tournament for special needs children. Th is event presents an opportunity for families of special needs children to enjoy the outdoors at Entergy Lake (Lewis Creek Reservoir). In addition to hosting the event at their lake and pavilion, Entergy was the event sponsor this year and helped to provide over 30 volunteers to help run the fi shing tournament. Volunteers helped children learn to fi sh and provide fi shing gear, bait, and life jackets. Th ere were also boat rides, games, trophies, goodie bags, and lunch for the families. 2014 marked the 16th year of “Kids on the Lake” and took place Saturday, May 10th.
In addition to Kids on the Lake, Entergy employees volunteer at other events in Montgomery County. In January, employees were
volunteer judges for the SCI://TECH fair hosted by the Education for Tomorrow Alliance (EFTA). In March, 65 volunteers helped make Th e Woodlands a cleaner place, by participating in the Earth Day Greenup. Recently, Entergy again partnered with EFTA to help staff volunteer positions for the Ironman competition in May. Th ey are sponsoring "Th e Woodlands Emergency Preparedness Community Event" on June 7, an event designed to provide residents and businesses with tools for planning for emergencies. On November 8th, Entergy will once again team up with the Montgomery County Food Bank to deliver food to the less fortunate. Last year, 45 volunteers helped 2,424 adults and children by distributing 60,000 pounds of food.
Th ey are also Red Sponsors in Th e GC/LCA Chamber's 4th of July Fireworks Over Lake Conroe. Th e show starts at 9:15PM and can be seen from locations along the south side of Lake Conroe.

Even though our club has multiple opportunities to work with special need children and adults, I love this one the most. We've been holding this event for several years and when I attended the fi rst one, I was hooked. Th e fi rst time you see a full stretcher being loaded on a boat, at that time you realize that the child and parents are limited with their exposure of what we can do everyday. Th e smile on a child's face when they catch a fi sh is priceless. Most of the children return every year until they reach the age of 18. When they remember you aft er a year and come up and tell you how much they look forward to this event, makes it all worth it.

I became involved with the event last year while I was living at the lake site. I just so happened to be there the day the event was going on. I have a fi shing boat and was asked by another Entergy employee out there if I would mind taking some kids fi shing on the lake. I had such a good time last year that I did it again this year. I took children and their families out on the fi shing boat to do fi shing in deeper water. Some of the kids were scared to get on the fi shing boat but with encouragement they got on the boat to have a good time on the water. I took four groups out and each group caught something except one.

Th is was my fi rst year to be involved with Kids on the Lake...Th e day is all about saying “yes, you can do this” to kids that always hear “no you can’t, you’re not capable”. Th e stand out moment for me was giving a boat ride to a young boy who is confi ned to a hospital bed. His father asked me, “Do you think there is a way he can go on one of the boats.” I simply replied, “Yes, we will make it happen.” One of the Entergy volunteers had his pontoon boat so I asked if we could get the boy, mother, and father on the boat. Without hesitation he said, “Of course!”...volunteers lift ed the boy on the boat and off they went for a ride. I can’t say I have ever seen bigger smiles!

Q. Why are you in business?A. I love business! All the aspects it covers, does not matter what fi eld I work in. I
like getting up every day and thinking to myself “What can I do diff erent?" or "What did I do great that can help someone else?”Q. Why are you in business?
A. To make dreams of home ownership come true.Q. Why are you in this type of business?
A. I can run a business like I want to. I can work as long or as short as I want to. Th e fact is, you get out what you put in. Which means, if I work 10 hours a week, then that's what I should expect for a return. I believe that a lot of people get into this business because they think you can be your own boss. Most of these so called "bosses" are horrible bosses. Th ey don't make you hit a time clock or answer to anyone but yourself.Q. How long have you been in business?
A. I originally started my real estate career in the late 1980's. Aft er 3 years of a market that supported interest rates of 18%, I decided to go back to the 8-5 work force.
In 2006, my decision to go back into real estate was exciting. My children were grown and with their own families. I could work 80 hours a week and only person to complain would be my wonderful husband. His support has always been off the charts. He even acquired his license to help me grow my business. Of course, then the market crashed and I was off to another rocky market. I decided that if I could make a living in a bad market, then when it changed I would be set.Q. How did you get started in this business?
A. Anyone that knows me, knows that I've never met a stranger. I consulted with several people in the industry to make sure that I was prepared for a life of sole
commissions. Making sure that we had 6 months of my salary in reserves we were set for the ride. As soon as I received my license, I went full throttle asking everyone I knew if they were in the need for a Great Realtor.Q. How did you get the background and skills necessary to run this type of business?
A. I held several accounting positions, which taught me to keep my books. Th e administrative/offi ce manager position was equally important. I like rules and expect everyone to abide by them. Th is is highly important due to the contracts that support all real estates transaction.Q. How has technology, such as computers and the internet, impacted on how you conduct business?
A. My husband is my tech guy. If it's out there, he taught me how to use it. As soon as I got my license, I headed up the technology department at our offi ce and taught several classes such as DocuSign and how to use Clouds. My business is fully paperless. Th e only time I print anything is when I'm working with a client that hasn't embraced technology.Q. Do you have employees? How many?
A. I have 1 Assistant that handles all the documents required by my offi ce and 1 Buyers Agent. Th e buyer's agent isn't an employee, but rather a team member.Q. How does your company diff erentiate itself?
A. My motto is "Th is is My Only Business". So many agents try to sell everything from make up to food products. I sell my service, knowledge and trust. Q. Who are the key players in the business?
A. Sellers - Buyers - Agent - Lender - Title Company. If you've considered buying a new construction, please remember that the builder sales person represents the builder. Use a competent Realtor that doesn't work for the money, instead they work for you.
