Cambridge Young Learners English (YLE) Tests - Starters, Movers and Flyers - are produced by Cambridge ESOL which is part of the Univer-sity of Cambridge in the UK. The tests focus on practical English and are specially designed so that children can start by learning simple words and phrases for Starters, and progress to using extended and more challenging language in Movers and Flyers. Every student who takes a YLE test gets a Cambridge award, which has a max. of 5 shields for each language skill: Reading & Writing, Listening, and Speaking.

Preparation Courses

The YLE tests are produced by the University of Cambridge ESOL, the UK‛s largest overseas examining board. There are three levels: Starters, Movers and Flyers. The YLE tests help develop English and reinforce language learning through a series of carefully chosen tasks in mean-ingful and realistic ways. Children can start by learning simple words and phrases for Starters, and progress to using extended and more challenging language in Movers and Flyers. Motivating and Inspir-ing tasks such as drawing and colouring are used so that children enjoy studying for and taking the YLE tests.

Each level consists of 3 components: Reading & Writing, Listening, and Speak-ing. Speaking is tested through a 1-to-1 interview with a native English examiner. All completed test papers are returned to Cambridge for marking and awards are issued by Cambridge ESOL. Every candi-date who attempts all 3 components will receive an award, with shields (a max of 5 shields) for each language skill, measure the child's performance accurately. Usually, children receive their certifi-cates about 1 month after the test.

Each week the students are presented with a different theme. Through guided discussions students learn new vocabulary and phrases as well as how much fun English can be. At more advanced levels, students will learn how to express and explain their opinions using basic critical thinking through open-ended questions. Emphasis will be placed on accuracy and clarity of expression.

Based on the Jolly Phonics curricu-lum, our phonics classes are designed to pave the way for students to become confident readers and spellers through “Jolly Phonics for the Interac-tive Whiteboard” activities, inter-active games and stories.

At more advanced levels, strong emphasis is placed on accurate pronunciation by differentiat-ing between various blends. By the end of these courses, they will have mastered challenging sound combinations which will help them advance further and become independent readers and writers.
