MLK Erev Shabbat Celebration & Weekend of Service

Erev Shabbat Service Featuring the Unity Choir Friday, January 13, 8:00 pmThe Unity Choir will perform soul-stirring, inspiring and participatory pieces, along with many old favorites during this musical Erev Shabbat celebration. Bring your spirit, your voice and your family & friends to this energizing evening. Please also bring your items for our Jelly & Apple Juice Donation Drive.

Weekend of ServiceFRIDAY, JANUARY 13: JELLY & APPLE JUICE DONATION DRIVE (at M’kor Shalom)At our 8:00 pm Erev Shabbat Service, we will be collecting jelly and apple juice for the JFCS Food Pantry. No glass jars, please. On your way in to our musical service and celebration, we invite you to drop off these items in the bins located outside the Sanctuary.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 15: PB&J SANDWICH-MAKING, 11:30 am — 2:00 pm (at M’kor Shalom)Make peanut butter & jelly sandwiches for The Cathedral Kitchen in Camden. Goal: 800 sandwiches. All ages welcome; family-friendly.

MONDAY, JANUARY 16: FOOD BANK OF SOUTH JERSEY, 11:30 am — 1:30 pm (1501 John Tipton Blvd., Pennsauken NJ) Sort and package food at the Food Bank of South Jersey in Pennsauken. Volunteers must be at least 13 years old. Space is limited.

MONDAY, JANUARY 16: THE CATHEDRAL KITCHEN, 3:30-5:30 pm (1514 Federal St., Camden NJ) Set-up & serve dinner to Camden residents. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Space is limited. Volunteer ASAP.

A Jewish Introduction to the New TestamentThursdays, January 12, 19 & 26, 10:30 am

Led by Rabbi Hirsh, we will look at the writings in the New Testament from the perspective of what they tell us about Judaism in the first century of the Common Era — a period of multiple voices about, and visions for, Judaism.

Tot Havdalah Dance PartySaturday, January 28, 5:45 pm

Join us for an epic “Candyland” Havdalah celebration! Enjoy an Italian dinner catered by Cibo by Iliano, a mitzvah project, a craft and a dance party with Sky High Entertainment, followed by a Havdalah service. We ask that each family donate a box of nut-free, individually wrapped snacks such as pretzels, raisins or crackers for our mitzvah project.

Adults $12; Children $7, children under 2 are free. Register by January 13 and get $3 off your total!

Join us for a welcoming, interactive Shabbat service and planting activity to promote Jewish Disabilities Awareness Month.

Following lunch, our students will enjoy a Tu B’Shevat project while caregivers will participate in an important and supportive discussion led by prominent psychologist and congregant, Dr. Daniel Gottlieb, who will focus on issues of compassion and “compassion fatigue” in care giving. Open to all those who give care to any person — a child, a parent, a sibling... Dr. Gottlieb will highlight how all families have some special needs, and how caregivers need to nurture themselves.
