Benefits

Improving reliability of power distribution system is critical for buildings, factories and any other facilities. To enhance protective and control systems and prevent major power outages, protection relays are essential. With a tendency toward a more advanced, complicated power distribution system in recent years, flexibility and accuracy are required for protection relays more than ever. With its enhanced functions added to the old models, the new “MELPRO-D Series” meets a variety of needs for power distribution system.

User Interface that is Easy to Use and Understand

Flexible and Rich Protection Functions Provide Flexibility inManaging Complicated Facilities

PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) Function Enables Reduction ofExternal Equipment and Wiring

Position of New MELPRO-D Series

VFD Indicator

VFD (Vacuum Florescent Display) is used for a numerical and character indicator. Its ability to display characters means that comparison between item numbers and reference table is no longer required, and its higher brightness and wider viewing angle ensures perfect readability even if the protection relay is located at a lower or higher place. Also, PC-HMI* (via USB 2.0) allows you to check various protection elements, output status, and the amount of input power. Setting values can be loaded and written through PC.Note: *PC-HMI is setting and monitoring software exclusively for the new “MELPRO-D Series” and available at “Mitsubishi Electric FA Site.” The protection relay supports USB Type B connection.

With increasingly complicated facilities, more and more timers and self-holding circuits are added to the outside of a protection relay as a condition for operation, closing, or warning of a breaker. To reduce such external equipment and wiring, the new “MELPRO-D Series” provides PLC function.PC-HMI allows you to build sequences based on the logic (e.g. AND/OR/NOT), timer (ON, OFF, One-shot), flip-flop (for holding) and other within the protection relay.

Excellent Compatibility with Our Existing Models Helps EasyReplacement

Dimensions for board processing of our existing “MULTICAP Series” and “MELPRO-D Series” are identical. They are easy to replace without an adapter. Also, excellent compatibility with existing models means minimal changes in design specifications. (except for some models*)Its pull-out structure makes it easy to slide out the main unit of the relay for testing in the maintenance process without disconnecting the wiring from the housing.Note: *D2 type models, such as CAC1-A01D2, among the existing models have different dimensions for board processing and require an adapter for replacement. For the adapter, please contact us.

Enhanced Recording Function Supports Analysis of AccidentFactors and Early Recovery

After an accident occurs, analyzing the factors and recovering equipment can take time. Delay in recovery may extend the damage from the accident even further. With its enhanced recording function, the new “MELPRO-D Series” supports analysis of accident factors and early recovery.

Ensuring a protection relay operates at the time of an accident and minimizing power outage areas require a coordinated protection with other equipment. With increasingly larger capacity of electrical equipment and complicated facilities, however, a coordinated protection is becoming harder and harder. To flexibly address this challenge in the settings even with complicated facilities or facilities with rigid constraints on coordinated protection, this product provides multi-staged settings for many protective elements. The overcurrent element in particular has 14 different types of operating time characteristics and 3-staged definite time-delayed characteristics.

Multi-stage Protective Elements

Group setting function allows you to set another group of setting values in addition to the values for regular operation. This makes it easy to change all setting values for regular operation to the values for periodical inspection just by switching between groups.

Pull-out Structure

Input current/voltage waveform of the protection relay in operation and detection/operation status of each protective element can be recorded* for up to 5 events. Waveform and status of each protective element can be checked by using PC-HMI.Instantaneous value, effective value, frequency, harmonic, vector diagram will be shown when the cursor is moved over on the screen.Note: *Recording specification: a total of 5 seconds, 24 segments/1 cycle.

Waveform Recording and Analysis Tool

Operation/recovery of each protective element and each output contact can be recorded with time stamp* for up to 512 events. Also, the information can be recorded for up to 200 events in the case where abnormality is detected by continuous self-diagnosis function which detects abnormality in the protection relay.Note: *Time stamp is recorded at intervals of 1 ms.
