Defining the case What kind of case would be relevant to the objectives of the study? Analyzing the data (1) Qualitative analyses Coding the dataassigning conceptual categories to sections of data Looking for categories and relationships Quantitative analyses Quantifying the data (e.g. how often does X occur?) Yins classification of case studies Exploratory Case Studies No research questions at outset Must still have rationale and criteria for success You should take an exploratory case study at its face value. Your investigator may initially have been uncertain about some major aspect of a real studythe questions to be asked, the hypotheses of the study, . Once investigated, the pilot or exploratory phase should be considered completed. Now you are ready to start the real studywith a complete research design, a whole new set of sources (sites) of information, and a fresh set of datafrom scratch.
