INTRODUCTION MAGICAL WORLD:

(SCENE) A Castle backdrop, with a gigantic silver tree spread across the stage. Mira andWizard David Smith are stood under it, they both look very sad. Mira is looking totally different

than we will see her throughout the rest of the musical, she is made up in flowing dress and verygirly looking with hair and make-up making her look stunning.

[MIRA] sadIt could be worse?

[WIZARD SMITH]Really? How?

[MIRA]The world could have ended..

[WIZARD SMITH]It still might I guess.

Both nervously laugh.

[MIRA] sounding even sadder and ready for his response immediately.So you know I can't go back with you to the castle.

[WIZARD SMITH]Then I must come with .. she cuts him off.

[MIRA]You cannot.

[WIZARD SMITH]I have no choice..

[MIRA]You could stay there!

[WIZARD SMITH]Without you.. That is no choice.. I would live in a hut if it were with you.

Mira cries.

[MIRA]If only it was that simple.. I could imagine us in a hut.. She smiles falsely.

[WIZARD SMITH]It can be.

[MIRA]You know it can't.

[WIZARD SMITH]But....

[MIRA]Without you in the castle what defence is there left?

[WIZARD SMITH]Do we not deserve to be happy?

[MIRA]Of course we do.. and I love you.. But....

[WIZARD SMITH]But nothing. I am coming with you. I love you!

Mira walks around as if thinking on the stage, then while the Wizard watches she slowly starts to speak.

[MIRA]OK then if you promise me that you will let me go to get the girl on my own. I will be back early June...But you must promise.

[WIZARD SMITH]That's months away!! I can't be away from you for that long.

[MIRA]You must promise me!

[WIZARD SMITH]I promise.

[MIRA]I love you.

[WIZARD SMITH]

And I love you.(Sung) Wait till June Wizard David Smith

Mira begins crying.

[WIZARD SMITH]Don't worry I will be waiting.

[MIRA]And I love you..

The stage goes dark.

ACT I OUR WORLD:

(SCENE 1) Sitting room/bedroom scene.

Half the stage is lit as the living room the other half blacked out until bedroom scene. when lit living room is darkened.

[Misty] running in to the room.Did you see what happened in the alley?Dad I swear it was the most amazing thing..

[Mr Waters] - moody and not bothered.It won't be anything but your stupid imagination again Misty, sometimes I think you make everythingup.And how many times have I told you you call me Mr Waters I don't like over-familiarity.

[Misty] Still excited.But we are family.

[Mr Waters] AngrilyThat's enough, I will not tell you again!

[Mrs Waters] Not particularly sympathetic.You know those are your dads rules. Pauses.So what happened that was so amazing in the alley then?Tell me about it..

[August] From where he's sitting on the sofa, sarcastically.Aliens landed again Musty?

[Misty] Ignoring August and facing her mom, tripping over her words in excitement.Well. It was the fifth night in a row where I saw unusual looking people bending down and gettingsomething from the washing hanging up in Mrs Dingles garden, then they went to the end of the road tothe alley.

[Mrs Waters] not sounding interested.People don't really steal washing.

[Misty]No, they weren't stealing it.

The funny thing is I don't even think it was people...

[August] With disdaine.So what were they then? Told you she thinks it's aliens... She's mad!

[Misty] Not angry just excited stilll.

That was the thing, when they reached the start of the alley it looked like they split in to two people likeit was two little people standing on each others shoulders.

[August] - laughingPhhhhfff.. Told you she'd mad!

[Mrs Waters] Not moving her face from the TV she's watching.Stop it August and you stop it Misty, I've never heard so much rubbish.Did you not see the people come back out, it's a dead end down there after all.

[Misty]That's the even crazier bit. They didn't come back out, any of the times!

[Mr Waters] - Putting down the newspaper he is holding with a thud.Stop being so stupid girl! I am absolutely sick of you making up stories. Get to your bed now!

Misty runs off sobbing to her bedroom.

[Mr Waters] Sung-I will not tolerate bad behaviour..I deserve respect...

[Mrs Waters]I know but can't we just have one night without arguing.

[Mr Waters]I don't argue...

[Mrs Waters] -Aside-

Only because he sulks if he doesn't get his own way!

[Mr Waters]Did you say something?

[Mrs Waters]No Dear.

[Mr Waters] -Sung-And you had better have not as well. This is my house..My rules...

I will suffer no fools.

[Mrs Waters]Yes Dear.

[Mr Waters]I never thought I'd have to say.

[Mr Waters]I don't get the respect that I deserve.You think I don't observe.You all agree for the sake of it.


[Mr Waters]That's better.. Now go and get me a drink.


[Mrs Waters] -sung-

The man takes the best of me.Oh I wish he'd just be nice to me..And the kids too.-rock-Oh he really used to be nice..Really used to sacrifice..But then his nerve has gone..

It's like he just can't go on.And it's like he is a whole different person.But whatever he does I just can't seem to tell him..

Oh cause he' used to be nice..Used to always make me think twice..But now he shouts at us..Makes me thinks he hates us.And it's like it's a whole new ballgame.And whatever he does I just can't seem to tell him..

But he's now taken the best of us.Oh I wish he'd just be nice to us..And everyone else too.

Oh but he really was nice..But now he's paying the price.But now he screams at us..

Takes out his frustrations on all of us.And it's like he really doesn't love us.And now I just don't have the energy to tell him..

[Mr Waters] -angry-Is that drink ready yet?

[Mrs Waters] -sad aside to the audience-You see what I mean?

Light fades on living room and Misty comes in to the spotlight on stage and starts singing.

[Misty] sungIt's just this early morning is always boring.With that breakfast song again.No one believes that I'm not lying.And the bed is cold where I have tossed and turned.

It's not just stupid to be so scared of you.And wish that I could change all the things you do.I guess that he's nothing more than just a bully through and through.I guess that he's nothing more than just a bully through and through.

It may be what I deserve,What mother lets him be,But I think she's just like me,I'm scared but getting to a point where I might snap.And he won't like that.

(SCENE 2) Bedroom scene:

Misty is standing looking out of the window sill, books propped up all around her and begins mournfully singing.

[Misty] sung.[title:dream]Looking across the blackness,

In the starless sky,I wonder if what I thought I saw,Was nothing more,Than a dream I wanted to come true.

I long for so much more, I'm sure there's more.There has to be, than what life has given me.

Chorus:If I was only dreaming then, why? Was this mystery in my dream?What can it mean? What can it be? What's the answer to this mystery?

(SCENE 3) - the living room (morning):Mr Waters is up coughing, wheezing and stretching in his full suit.

[Mr Waters] shouts offstage where Mrs Waters is and comes running in.Breakfast!

[Mrs Waters]Of course dear.What do you want this morning?

[Mr Waters]What do I want?It's the most important meal of the day..A full English of course!

[Mrs Waters]Yes Dear I'll just do it now.

[Mr Waters] sung: The Breakfast song.It has to be bacon..It has to be Eggs..It has to have Soldiers to dip in those Eggs..It has to have Hashbrowns..It has to have beans..Are you so stupid you don't know what this means?Breakfast isn't an option..It's the fuel of the day..Which is why I always have to say.

Bring me Breakfast, bring it now.Bring me Breakfast I could eat a cow.I shouldn't have to ask it,It should already be here.But that will never happen is something I fear!


It has to be Porridge..It has to be Milk..It has to have syrup to pour in the bowl..It has to have OJ..It has to have coffee..Are you so stupid you really can't see?

[Mr Waters] -sung-Love doesn't mean anything.. Love never put food on anybody's table did it? Love didn't help me getwhere I am today.. It didn't buy us this lovely house.

[Mrs Waters]Yes dear.

[Mr Waters]If it wasn't for me you would all be starving in the gutter, there's no thanks either.

[Mrs Waters]I make sure the house is always clean.. And we do love you.

[Mr Waters]And I have told you love doesn't mean anything!

[Mrs Waters]What do you want me to do?

[Mr Waters]Just keep those kids in line can't you. Especially Misty.. We need to get all of this imagination out of herhead.. She needs to grow up.. When I was her age I was at least 10 years older!

[Mrs Waters]Yes dear.

Mr Waters stretches even more vigorously in his suit and then bursts in to song.

[Mr Waters] - Slightly operatic. - (sung:I do everything)I go out every day, push the rif-raf out the way.Barely getting time to even eat my lunch.If you all pulled your weight, it would stop me being late,As I do everything!I do everything!

Loud voice:Anything goes wrong it's you and your damn kids fault!

As I do everything!I play a round of golf, with my bestest buddy Ralf,

Barely getting time for more than five pints.If you all pulled your weight, I could drink maybe more like eight,As I do everything!I do everything!

[Mrs Waters]You do everything that's true,I am really in awe of you.So sometimes when you come home,I am sorry I 'appear' to moan.

-quiet angry aside-Working 8 hours a day and then cooking can do that to you!

-sarcastic-You do everything!

[Mr Waters]I guess at least you see,That the one who works is me!

I do everything!

Mr Waters stretches again and then heads towards the front door, slamming it without saying goodbye.

[Mrs Waters]You do nothing!And we do everything!

-Misty and August come running down the stairs- both speaking at the same time.

[Misty]Mom, August is playing tricks on me again!

[August]She's lying..

[Mrs Waters]It doesn't matter which of you is lying, I am not going to put up with either of you bickering today. I am'not' in the mood, ok?

[August and Misty together]Yes Mom.

-As Mom walks out the room August pours talcum powder over Mistys back. She doesn't notice but turns to speak to him.

[Misty]What do you think is the matter with Mom?

[August]Who cares?

[Misty]Why do you always pretend to be nasty, we both know deep down you are a nice kid?

[August]You bet I am! - he pours more talcum powder over Misty as she turns towards the kitchen.

-Mrs Waters walks back in- notices all the powder on Mistys back.

[Mrs Waters] -angry-Can't you even get dressed properly?

[Misty]

But.. But.. But.

[Mrs Waters brushing Misty down while singing]When I did your breakfast,You promised you'd be good,But deep down inside,I didn't think you would..

You do nothing!You take everything!I wish you would behave.

[Misty]But it wasn't me.

[Mrs Waters]It never is... -August leaves the room sniggering. - A 30ish year old woman enters the room from the right accompanied bya knock, she is Mrs Waters Sister Mira (Misty and Augusts Aunt).

[Aunt Mira]Hey guys, is everything ok?

-Misty runs and puts her arms around Aunt Mira-

[Misty]Aunty.

[Mrs Waters]I wish she would show that sort of affection for the rest of us.

[Aunt Mira]Hah, it's only because she sees me so rarely. You lot get her everyday.

[Mrs Waters] -Sarcastically.

Lucky us!

[Misty]How are you Aunty, what are you doing here?

[Aunt Mira]Can't I drop in on my favourite niece without a reason?

I believe everything until I see proof positive, with my own eyes, that it's not true.

[Misty]Thanks.Well I have been seeing two small men standing on each others shoulders, stopping at the neighboursdrive and then just disappearing in to thin air.

I know it sounds silly, but I swear it's true.

[Aunt Mira]Well I believe you.

[Misty]Really?

[Aunt Mira]Yes, It's not as unbelievable as things I've seen in my time.And I know you Misty you are a good girl. -she kisses Misty on the forehead as she says this.If you say it happened then I believe it did.

[Misty]Thank you.What do you think it means?

[Aunt Mira]It could be nothing at all.I certainly wouldn't worry about it.One night I woke up and looked out of the window and could have sworn I saw the moon bleeding.

[Misty]

Really! Was it bleeding?

[Aunt Mira]No.. That's impossible. It was just a trick of the light.

[Misty]This wasn't a trick of the light though.

[Aunt Mira]I never thought it was.Maybe there is a travelling circus in town..

Maybe they were just practising..It could be anything.

[Misty]It could be anything I guess.-to sung-But it just all seemed so strange.. It was like I had to look and see..Like magic was calling out to me..

[Misty] -laughing-I don't believe in magic.

[Aunt Mira]Why don't you?

[Misty]Everyone knows magic isn't real!

[Aunt Mira]Do they?

[Misty]Of course..Don't talk like that around Dad or he'll send you to bed without supper too!

-Both laugh-

[Aunt Mira]I am going to get off now my Dear.I have just thought of something I need to do.. Someone I need to see.

[Misty]You are being very mysterious all of a sudden Aunty.

[Aunt Mira]I don't mean to be.Just remember keep an open mind.

[Misty]Of course I will..If you believe Dad my mind's so open it's vacant.

[Aunt Mira]And don't let him put you down..Remember whatever is said we all love you.

[Misty]Why do you always seem so melancholy when you talk about love Auntie?

[Aunt Mira]Sometimes I think it's worse to have loved and lost it than never had it at all...

(SCENE 4) - The Living room after school. Right hand half of stage:

[Misty]So why are you being moody with me now?What have I done to you?

[August]Your silliness has been putting Dad in a mood. It means I suffer too.

[Misty]So it's MY fault that he's nasty to us?

[August]Yes.

[Misty]I was telling the truth you know.

[August]About what? Your smelly breath?

[Misty]I wish you wouldn't be like that. We used to get on so well. Why do you pretend to hate me?

Pauses looking confused for a second, but getting over it.

[August] Sung sarcastically and very childishlyI shouldn't have to say it, don't you know?Of all the sisters in the world I'd always have to tell thee,

That compared to all of them you are more than just smelly.... oh....Cause you smell of poop,and I'm not cockahoop about your attitude either.All these stupid lies you tell and expect us to believe ya,I'd choose to be an orphan rather than your brother,But then I'd have to find a brand new father and a mother..So I don't pretend to hate you, I really do mean it,and my tricks are just ways for me to show that I mean it.

Misty starts loudly crying August changes the tone of his song slightly.

[August]Well maybe you aren't the worstest, but you really do annoy me,You always get the attention that they should be giving me,And though you smell of poopor farty soup I guess I really don't hate ya,Or the fact that your silly stories nearly give me a seizure,I guess I really don't mean to upset you as your brother,

Misty stops crying and moves towards her brother.

[Misty]I really did see the two men on each others shoulders taking something from the neighbours washing!

[August]Stop being silly!

[Misty]I know it sounds weird, but it's what I saw.

[August]Please! Do I really seem that gullible.

[Misty]If you don't believe me, why don't you watch out the window with me tonight?

[August]If this is a trick I'll never forgive you.

[Misty]Please just give me a chance... I'm not the liar dad makes me out to be.

[August]OK, what time?

[Misty]10pm.. and August.

[August] Impatient angrily.What now?

[Misty] Sounding very happy.Thanks.

August walks out in silence obviously confused. The stage darkens and a spotlight on August is the only light as he begins to

sing.

[August] Sung emotionally and surprisingly powerfully

The dye was cast.At such a young age in my past.

(SCENE 5) - Mistys Bedroom Window. (Left hand side of stage):

[August]This better not be another silly fantasy.

[Misty]

You didn't have anything better to do did you?

[August]That's not the point.

[Misty]So what is the point then?

[August]You k....

[Misty] Pointing out of the window.Shhh.. Look there.

Painted on a small backdrop is the road to the left of the window and a washing line with clothes on.A strange tall character with Ginger hair and beard and a large beige overcoat wobbles on to set. He looks aroundcautiously and then stumbles over to the washing and grabs a big gold key from inside the fold of one of the items hanging up.[Misty]See I told you! It's the same every night.

The ginger character seems to hear them as he turns and looks around and then runs off.

[August]

It could have just been coincidence. I mean he didn't exactly split in to two dwarfs like you claimedbefore did he!

[Misty]That's because I think he heard us.

[August] sneeringYou have an answer for everything don't you.

[Misty]No, I have just seen this a few times now.

[August]This better not be a setup.

[Misty]Why would I?

[August]It's obvious isn't it?

[August]Don't make me say it! Alright for me being nasty and playing tricks on you.

August walks out of Mistys bedroom.

I look out trying to see anything..I'm sick of my life..Will take any other life..So I look out the window,As it goes.. Ping, Ping, Ping.I rarely see anything..Then it all started..

(SCENE 6) - Living Room- Misty and August standing talking:

[Misty]So will you sneak out with me tonight then?

[August]

What's in it for me?

[Misty]You'll see I'm not lying.

[August]And that will help me how?

[Misty]You will see I'm telling the truth.

[August]That's nothing to me.

[Misty]Come on you know it'll be fun to sneak out and if we get caught you'll be able to say it was my fault.

[August]Well that's more interesting.

[Misty]And when you see I'm telling the truth you can apologise.

[August] Laughing.Fat Chance.

-Mrs Waters walks in with a bag of shopping in her arms.

[Mrs Waters]Which one of you is going to help me put this away?

[August]Misty said she would.-He runs out quickly as he says it.

[Mrs Waters]Good. Misty, come here and finish. I need to go and sort out your dad's clothes.

(SCENE 7) The street backdrop with washing line and a big bush on far right. Misty andAugust kneel crouched behind the bush. The background is night-time:

[August]How long do we have to wait here?

[Misty]I don't know but they normally come along soon.

[August]I hope they do.. Or I will go and tell Dad.

[Misty]Tell him what?

[August]You made me sneak o...

-A low whistling and shuffling noise starts and a massively tall person shuffles towards the washing line. He is wearing along brown mac, has a great big ginger beard and walks unusually.

[Misty]Shh.. Here he is now.

[August]What's he doing?

-The man is bending over the washing line and fiddling in the pockets, he pulls out a large golden oversized key.

[Misty]I told you! Weird isn't it but that's not the weirdest thing look.

-Misty points to the man as he walks to the end of the street near the bush where they are crouched. Suddenly the jacket fallsto the ground and the tall man splits in to two as it was one dwarf sitting on anothers shoulders.

[August]I want to go home.

[Misty]No! We need to talk to them and find out what they are up to.

[August]But what if they tell Dad, or he hears us?

[Misty]I'll take the blame.

[August] reluctantly.Alright then.

-Misty makes a noise and walks out from behind the Bush, August stays quiet behind the bush. The small men jumpsaround panicked as she approaches.

[Misty]Hi. Im Misty We live over there. I couldnt help but notice you.

[Small person 1] not addressing Misty but turning to the other small person,Merlins beard.. What to do?

[Small person 2]What to do indeed!

[Small person 1]Is it dangerous?

[Small person 2]I hear girls are one of the most dangerous creatures on this planet!

-At that August walks out of the bush laughing and talks to the first small person.

[August]Girls are most certainly terrifying creatures, but this ones ok I guess.

[Small Person 1] Looking even more disconcerted.Ahhhh! A boy.. The only thing more deadly than girls.

[Small Person 2]- Backing towards the washing and picking up a small stick off the floor and pointing it at August.On guard you terrible monster.

Making the mistake of laughing at the small people, they get enraged and the first one prods August with the stick.

[August]I didnt mean any offence.

[Misty]Leave my brother alone. You come to our street and start shouting and attacking us, its you thatsdangerous.

[Small people together]Our business is none of yours!

[Misty]We were just interested.

[Small person 1]Interest can get you hurt our business is our business!

[Misty]But its our street!

[Small person 1]You own the street?

[Misty]Well we dont own the street, but we do live here.

[Small person 2]I live on this earth, it doesnt mean I own it or have the right to stop and question who I like.

[Small person 1] - to the other small personWell said Cranwick.

[Misty]Well you shouldnt act so furtive then. If you werent up to no good or had something to hide would itreally matter?

[Small people together]Our business is none of yours!

[Misty]Are you breaking the law?

[Small people together] sung.

Whatever we do is not the business of you,Whatever we may be up to, is nothing, nothing to do with you.

[Small person 1] turning to the other small person.Well actually.. Maybe it is to do with her?

[Small person 2]What do you mean?

[Small person 1]I know it was a long time ago when we began searching but what were we told to look for?

-a tall man dressed as a wizard enters the stage behind the Gringles, he is The Evil Wizard Robert Smith, The stagedarkens and lightning flashes-

-Cranwick stands and faces the creatures and Wizard, quickly followed by his brother-

[Cranwick]Don't think we are scared of you.

[Littlehorn]You do not frighten us that easily.-The evil Wizard doesn't even respond but points his wand at them and a lot of smoke engulfs them and then they are bothlying on the floor motionless. The curtain goes down on the Act-.

ACT II THE MAGIC WORLD

(SCENE 15a) An open market scene with stalls everywhere and the painted backdrop is a giantwizard castle and trees. Allsorts of weirdly made up characters are selling their wares. Two stallsare either side of the stage. Several people are walking around stopping to look at the charms onboth stalls. People begin dancing around as a fortune teller walks around approaching differentpeople as they ignore him or start dancing with him.

[Seller One] -shouting-Buy my charms!

[Fortune Teller] -sung deeply-Oh the land might be facing a beatin'But I've got more than a greetin'For anyone who wants to know what the future has to hold..Come to me and your fortune will be told..

Do you want your future told sir? -to man-

-man-I don't believe in it!

Come now.. Don't you wish to know your future? -to woman-

-woman-It's not real magic!

Come now.. Am I the only sane one here?

-ensemble-You are as sane as the next man!

-a man (fool) walks on with straw out of his mouth and stumbling. The Fortune Teller approaches him-
