Oath of an Occupational TherapistFrom the privilege and rights this degree brings, I hereby pledge to hold my knowledge in trust for the good of those people whom I serve. Therefore, I will:
Endeavor to keep both the profession and the occupational needs of the clients and communities I serve foremost in my thoughts and actions;
Deliver occupational therapy services that demonstrate excellence at all levels of care while valuing and honoring diversity and respecting others as equals;
Advocate for needed services and the rights of clients regardless of the constraints I may face;
Strive to always act in a manner that is consistent with the philosophical base and values of the profession by upholding the occupational therapy code of ethics, abiding with those in need of care even in the face of personal risk, and upholding the dignity of all human beings regardless of their condition; and
Model and foster leadership, and facilitate spiritual, personal, and professional growth for myself, my profession and in others.
In keeping with the high ethical and moral standards of Creighton University, I will seek to be receptive to what those around me have to teach me, be committed to scholarship and the lifelong pursuit of truth, and be dedicated to building a human community of justice, respect, and mutual concern.
Recitation of Oaths
Oath of a PharmacistI promise to devote myself to a lifetime of service to others through the profession of pharmacy. In fulfilling this vow:
I will consider the welfare of humanity and relief of suffering my primary concerns.
I will apply my knowledge, experience, and skills to the best of my ability to assure optimal outcomes for my patients.
I will respect and protect all personal and health information entrusted to me.
I will accept the lifelong obligation to improve my professional knowledge and competence.
I will hold myself and my colleagues to the highest principles of our profession’s moral, ethical, and legal conduct.
I will embrace and advocate changes that improve patient care.
I will utilize my knowledge, skills, experiences, and values to prepare the next generation of pharmacists.
I take these vows voluntarily with the full realization of the responsibility with which I am entrusted by the public.
15
Oath of a Physical TherapistIn the presence of my colleagues, friends, families and teachers, and in view of the honored profession I am entering into, I solemnly and willingly state that I dedicate myself to the following:
I will practice physical therapy with compassion for the vulnerabilities in each of my patients and will work to preserve their dignity and promote their health and welfare.
I will value the lives of my patients as I value my own life, through my concern for their significance and with respect for them and the confidential nature of our relationship.
I will be humble.
I recognize my limitations and will continue to consult with my colleagues and co-workers for knowledge with which I can better treat my patients and for the inspiration to expand and augment my education.
I will share my knowledge with my colleagues and patients freely, with compassion and patience.
I will work toward the improvement of the quality of life for all of my patients.
I will honor the choices that my patients make with respect to their wishes and needs.
I will do no harm to another human.
I will work to improve the practice of physical therapy so that all who seek it will receive treatment which is proper, ethical and just.
I will not allow my judgment regarding the practice of my profession to be influenced by race, creed, religion, greed or unethical behavior.
I will expect the same behavior from my colleagues and co-workers.
Thus, with this oath, I freely accept the obligations and rewards which will accompany my practice of physical therapy.

Senior Awards
Graduates who received awards in their final year are listed with their name.
The Robert I. Garis Memorial Scholarship is an annual award in memory of Dr. Robert Garis. Dr. Garis was a most respected and distinguished member of the pharmacy faculty and this scholarship through its awardee reflects the outstanding characteristics of him. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of a student’s attributes in the practice and science of pharmacy administration and social and economic justice in the application of medications in the care of patients. The award is made possible by the generous gifts of dedicated alumni and members of Pharmaceutical Technologies, Inc. The awarded student will be designated as a “Garis Scholar.”
In 1979 Mr. and Mrs. Bernard J. Ghiglieri Jr. established the Jane A Ghiglieri Scholarship in memory of their daughter, a 1977 summa cum laude graduate of the Creighton University School of Pharmacy, who passed away from leukemia a year later at the age of 24. The campus-based P3 student named as a Jane A. Ghiglieri Scholar must have a demonstrated history of academic excellence, outstanding leadership, and extraordinary service to fellow students, the School and external communities. While Jane’s parents are now deceased, her devoted brother Bernard J. Ghiglieri, III, has provided sustaining support for the Scholarship. For this, the School and its pharmacy students will be forever grateful.
The Eli Lilly Achievement Award is presented to a fourth-year student who has exhibited overall excellence in scholastic achievement, leadership, and extracurricular activities.
The Wolters Kluwer Clinical Drug Information Award of Excellence in Clinical Communication is given to a student who exhibits high scholarship and demonstrates superior clinical communication skills.
The Merck & Company Award is presented to graduating students who have achieved outstanding scholastic achievement in their pharmacy studies.
The United States Public Health Service established the nationally prestigious Excellence in Public Health Pharmacy Award to recognize students who demonstrate their commitment to achieving the objectives of “Healthy People 2020,” which include promoting quality of life, healthy development, and healthy behaviors across all life stages.

Invitation to AΣN is one of the highest honors bestowed at these institutions. Today’s graduating students who have been so honored wear a gold medallion with a maroon ribbon.
HISTORY OF ACADEMIC REGALIAThe purpose of the Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions’ Hooding Ceremony is to celebrate the individual scholarly and personal achievements of our clinical doctorate graduates as they prepare to receive their degrees during the University’s commencement ceremony with other Creighton graduates.
The hood, cap, and gown are the visual components of the academic costume of commencement, with the hood reserved for those who attain the highest academic degrees beyond the bachelor’s degree. Origins of academic attire are obscured in history, but it is likely that the distinctive dress of scholars is based on modifications of the ecclesiastical costumes of medieval clerics. The colors used for trimming of doctors’ gowns, edging of hoods, and tassels of caps represent different professions and/or major disciplines.
Those used in the Creighton School of Pharmacy and Health Professions are as follows:
Occupational Therapy: Ink BluePharmacy: Olive GreenPhysical Therapy: Teal
The inner hood lining of Creighton University graduates is white and blue, the colors of Creighton University.
