MISSION 1:EVALUATING ROCKETS!
Rocket and Shuttle Designs!
What can we notice about each of these designs?
What do we think makes them a good rocket?
Can you think of scientific words to help explain your answers?
Rocket and Shuttle Designs!
Rocket and Shuttle Designs!
Rocket and Shuttle Designs!
Your mission:
Look at the pictures of rockets and shuttles on your desk.
Discuss each with your partner and decide what is a good/ bad design feature.
Make notes on your sheet. Be prepared to feedback to the
rest of the space cadets!
MISSION 2:DESIGNING ROCKETS!
History of Rockets!
In 400BC, the first signs of rockets were found!
Hero of Alexandria, an Ancient Greek, invented the Hero Engine.
The fire created steam, which created a thrust which moved the sphere.
History of Rockets!
In the first century AD, the Chinese began experimenting with gunpowder.
They created gunpowder filled tubes attached to bamboo.
The rocket was born!
History of Rockets!
Sir Isaac Newton (1642-1727) developed laws to explain how rockets worked.
History of Rockets! This rocket was the first to successfully fly with a liquid- propelled rocket on March 16, 1926. Fuelled by liquid oxygen and gasoline, the rocket flew for only two and a half seconds, climbed 12.5 meters, and landed 56 meters away in a cabbage patch.
History of Rockets! This all lead to the development of the rockets used today.
Your mission:
To design a rocket! Using your discussion, you will
design a rocket ready to test at the next School Rocket Launch!
Think carefully about your design.
Be prepared to launch at 13.30!
MISSION 3:MAKING OUR
ROCKETS!LAUNCH TIME: 13.30!
MISSION 4:TESTING OUR
ROCKETS!IT’S LAUNCH TIME!
MISSION 5:EVALUATING
OUR ROCKETS!
Evaluating your rocket:
How did your rocket perform?
What was the best part of your rocket design?
What would you improve next time?
