It is going to be such a great way for the Miss Florida Organization to share information, news and of course, pictures with as many people as possible. As for me, I am currently working on a number of exciting things. This month is jam packed with new appearances, including, a Rays game, spending three days in Tallahassee at session and of course Miss Florida’s Outstanding Teen pageant. I will be speaking on Friday the 23 rd on the East coast and then driving straight over to be with all of you at the pageant. I would like to take this time to say to Myrrhanda, what an absolute pleasure it has been getting to know you and your beautiful soul. You are such a joy to be around and you are going to make big things happen in this world, girl. I have had so much fun cheering you on, keeping you warm at parades, and hugging you in Vegas each night as I came off stage. You are so incredible and have represented the state of Florida and the Miss Florida Organization to the fullest extent. I cannot wait to see what the world has in store for you, better yet, what you are going to bring to this world. I love you and this is not goodbye, just the end of one adventure, embrace the journey, right? A Moment with Mary

Dear Miss Florida Pageant Family, Friends, Supporters & Sponsors:

I am honored to welcome you to our first Miss Florida Newsletter! The Miss Florida Organization is celebrating 75 years of keeping the dream alive for the young women of our state. One of the ways we will communicate with you about exciting upcoming events is through our pageant newsletter and our hope is that you will also share newsworthy items that we can convey to our pageant audience. Together we will enhance and promote the brand of the Miss Florida America Organization.

Miss Florida Rachael Todd and Miss Florida's Outstanding Teen Myrrhanda Jones have done an excellent job this year of keeping everyone informed about their appearances and accomplishments. The newsletter is another avenue that we will use to promote and showcase our two titleholders during their reign.

Our 2010 Miss Florida's Outstanding Teen Pageant is April 23-24, 2010 in Dade City at the Dan Cannon Auditorium. 34 young ladies will compete for the title now held by Myrrhanda Jones of Gainesville. Myrrhanda has been an exemplary representative for our Teen Program. At the Miss America's Outstanding Teen National Pageant in Orlando, Myrrhanda won evening gown, and was the second runner up. Florida felt as if we had won for we could keep Myrrhanda in our state, yet she had also made her mark on the national level. She continued to stand out as she won the Make a Difference Day Campaign, the Frederico Leone Shoe Campaign, and was acclaimed for the top money raised for Children’s Miracle Network. She has promoted her platform across the state, Hugs for Hurts – Helping children to process their personal tragedies and know that there is hope for a better tomorrow. In addition, she has excelled in her dual enrollment of high school and college and will enter at her chosen university as a sophomore. Myrrhanda's future will be filled with many bright and shining moments and we will watch as she climbs the ladder of success!

We hope that you will plan to attend the pageant and cheer for your favorite Teen contestant. For ticket information, please contact Keith Williams, Secretary, Miss Florida Pageant Board of Directors. Keith's email is [email protected] or visit the Miss Florida web site for the ticket form.

We're energized about the next few months and can't wait to share our news with you!

With best wishes,

Mary E. Sullivan, Executive DirectorMiss Florida Scholarship Pageant, Inc.

Myrrhanda JonesFlorida Outstanding Teen 2009

Oh April! I have dreaded the coming of this month for quite awhile. I wish it were possible to skip April so that I could be Miss Florida’s Outstanding Teen forever. However, I know that I will have a wonderful successor that will take over the job. Whoever it may be, love every moment of your year, trust in God, and be

yourself! If you do these three things, your year will be as successful as mine.

Over the past month, a lot has happened. First, and foremost (and the one I am most excited about) I was chosen by Cox Communications to represent the State of Florida at the Teen Summit “Take Charge 2010.” I will be meeting with other teens from across America along with Jon Walsh of America’s Most Wanted and CEO of Missing and Exploited Children. We will be discussing teen safety on the Internet and cell phone texting. After my meetings, I will meet and discuss with Senators and State representatives on Capitol Hill how I can get this message of safety back to teens in Florida. Cox Communications will then book appearances for me around the state to speak at schools and other venues about this important topic.

The next, not so exciting news is that I am about to dive into my very first finals week at the University of Florida. Pray for me the week before the Teen pageant! In May, I will be auditioning for Florida’s majorette line. This is a very exciting time in my life because it has been my dream to be a Gatorette since the age of 6. By the Miss Florida pageant in July, hopefully, I will be part of the University of Florida Fighting Gator Marching Band! I am very proud to say that two weeks ago, I won the state Strut and

Solo title for Baton Twirling. I got to go home with a trophy, literally, as tall as I am!

The last exciting adventure before I give up my title will be a television news interview in St. Petersburg. I am so blessed to have such wonderful people that are involved in the Florida Organization to make such wonderful appearances happen. Along with this interview, I will be visiting All Children’s Hospital and speaking to the children and families. I am most excited about passing out my monkeys! I hope to see all of you at the Dan Cannon Auditorium in Dade City to see the new Miss Florida’s Outstanding Teen crowned!

Much Love,

The Miss Gainesville Organization partnered with CACHE and were able to use live models as mannequins in the window of the Cache store in their area. They (Cache) asked Myrrhanda to wear her crown and sash while modeling. Merissa says that it was very successful in helping to recruit new contestants. If you have a Cache in your area, you might want to consider this as a means for your contestant recruitment. Of course, the success of this venture will solely depend upon the management of the local Cache store but go for it!! Hopefully Merissa will share photographs for us all to enjoy!

The Class of 2010What are they thinking? Inside the minds of some outstanding local

grads.By Hannah Wallace

Graduation changes everything. With the flip of a tassel and the toss of a mortarboard, students cross over into the great unknown.

We asked 10 local high school, college and graduate students, all of whom will be graduating this spring,

to reflect on their studies in Sarasota, what their lives look like now and what they expect from the future. The first thing we realized is that our local schools turn out an exceptional variety of graduates. Among our subjects are an athlete who’s also an academic star, a beauty queen med student, a community-minded jazz percussionist and an aspiring Air Force officer. They shared with us everything from their preferred mode of communication (texting is king) to their philosophical differences with their parents—as well as their peers. Find out in their own words what makes them tick—and what makes them twitch—as they prepare for the next chapter of their lives......
