MISÉ EN SCENE ELEMENTS

Page 2: Misé en scene elements

SettingSetting is one element of mise en scene and is very important in creating meaning as a setting can depict a films location and a time frame for when it is set.

For example Westerns are stereo-typically set in the

American Mid-West as historically this is where cowboys originated.

Whereas Sci-Fi films, such as Star Wars, are often set in space

as the films will feature other worlds or space travel

Costume, Props and Make-UpCostume is another element of misé en scene and is very important in creating meaning as a costume can depict something about character and a time frame for when a scene is set.

For example War films will involve characters in camouflage clothing as this is a stereotypical outfit for

a soldier.

Period Dramas involve characters that suggest the

period the film is set in.
