Michael Quinn Patton, Utilization-Focused Evaluation, St. Paul, MN Reflections About the Theme: Reconciling Equity and Accountability: Evaluation in an Unjust World The U.N.-sponsored International Year of Evaluation ended December 31, 2015, even as the practice of evaluation continued its global expansion and development. Recent events in the U.S. and around the world have pointed to the enormous challenges humankind faces and the routine injustice of the circumstances in which so many people live. In light of the complexity and seeming intractability of many problems, evaluators may begin to question the likely influence of their work. Inconstructingthisyear’sschedulefortraining,wewereagainremindedofthemultifacetedsocialsystemswithinwhichwepractice.Weinviteyoutojoinusforthe21thAnnualMESISpringTrainingastogetherweseek,bothasindividualsandasmembersofagrowingprofessionalcommunity,todevelopcompetenciesthatwillhelpevaluatorsembracebothequityandaccountabilityissuesinthe21stcentury.
