MINISTRY UPDATES – Q2, 2017 Purpose: Richview Baptist Church exists to glorify God by making disciples. We do this through: Worship Evangelism Discipleship Demonstrating our love by meeting the needs of others, particularly believers As we move into summer, our number of guests have been down. This create a shortage of food supplied by our partner Daily Bread Foodbanks. Thankfully we have some faithful sponsors providing funds for us to subsidize the amount of food available. Ministry/Prime Update (April, May, Jun 2017) Sunday School for Grades 1-5 have enjoyed consistent teachers as we have worked our way through different Scriptures on God's Love and God's Spirit using Discplr curriculum. We have been averaging 15 students. As fall approaches, we will be using Gospel Light curriculum that we already have in the church. Some of our volunteers are stepping down from teaching. There is always a need for more teachers and helpers in Sunday School. We are excited to see what God has in store for 2017-2018 ministry year! Preschoolers have a tender heart and an openness to the Lord that allows them to know and love God at a very young age. We are dedicated to cultivating and encouraging spiritual life in kids in partnership with their parents. Our goal is to nurture a spiritual hunger for God, an awareness of His presence, and a love for His Word. We thank God for the privilege of touching the lives of children and their families through this ministry, and we celebrate what He is doing. As of June, the Community Groups are taking a Summer Break. If you are interested in joining one in the Fall, please contact Jonathan Clarke at [email protected]. It’s a great way to connect with a small group of people to help each other & study God’s word together. In April, Paul Payne decided to focus his energy on his other ministries and stepped down from the Deacons board. Also, our treasurer, Chris Matsika resigned. Thanks to both Paul and Chris for their contributions to the Deacons board. The remaining deacons board is comprised of Cheri Arthurs, Lori McMurray, and Paul Redlich. The Board immediately focussed on recruiting deacons. This led to some very healthy discussions about the qualifications and characteristics of deacons. The Board developed a profile of what an ideal deacons board would look like and is actively pursuing new members. In June, we welcomed John Warman to the board as the church’s new treasurer. He’s hit the ground running and is doing a great job preparing for our 2018 budgeting process. We hope to have two additional board members by the end of the summer. Please pray for wisdom for the deacons as we administer the physical needs of the church. • The Foundation continues to supply affordable housing to seniors next door to the Richview Baptist Church.

• This quarter ended with Marissa Magnusson’s last day BBQ. Marissa served as the Life Enrichment Coordinator for the Foundation for the last 3 years. She has done an excellent job reaching out to the Residence community. She is going back to school to take a Social work program. We will miss her.

• The Dining Room Committee has been very busy over the summer. The Foundation issued an Expression of Interest for the dining room services. The proposals have been submitted and are being evaluated.

• Anyone 59 or over and thinking of moving, or just interested in a tour of the Richview Residence, tours are given the last Monday of each month.

• Contact the Richview Residence office at 416-247-5316 to book your tour spot.

program. Tickets are being requested a week after the event although we don’t start selling tickets until a month before. Get your tickets quickly as we sell out our ninety-five tickets in forty- eight hours. Sixty percent of those attending are residents from the Richview Foundation buildings, and some have started attending church as well.

• In April, we enjoyed a musical and drama presentation by Laurie Atkins on looking at the Easter Story as told by Mary.

• In June Carol Weicker told her story of God’s work in her life and a great presentation of music.

• Many of those attending tell us how the speakers speak from their heart to the heart of those attending.

• •

• We've had a busy few months in the library. • Being open on Tuesday afternoons for the Residents continues to draw

many seniors who take advantage of our selection of books (especially the large print), DVD and CDs.

• We've also noticed an increase of check-out over the last few weeks as people prepare for some rest and relaxation at the cottage.

• During the past few months we've received a large number of book donations - both fiction and non-fiction - and we've started to catalogue them. We've also added some new DVDs to our collection.

• Be sure to come in and check them out.

• In April we had an Easter themed breakfast. We had a good turn out for the morning that was packed with a lot of variety.

• Corinna shared about Lazarus and guided us in doing a short Bible study at the tables. Inez led a fun Easter egg memory game.

• The Easter lilies that decorated the room were donated to ladies that were sick or shut-in.

• In June our theme was Flip Flop. Inez shared a devotional on us "walking in faith" so we don't flop.

• We also played a flip/flop true or false game. Ladies shared statements about themselves and others had to guess if they were true or false. We spent time praying for the summer ministries of the church.

• Many thanks to Inez and Sylvia who put in their time and energy in making these gatherings a success.

• Ladies that are coming are being blessed

• Missions continues to look for a team leader • Throughout the spring were able to provide support to Ruth Sangalang at

both Etobicoke Collegiate and Richview Collegiate through pizza parties, and having regular monthly missions moments with both Urban Promise and our missionaries.

• In addition to our regular activities, the Easter Play, Seder Meal, and garage sale provided a number of opportunities for the youth to serve and interact with the larger body at Richview. It was fun watching them perform, sharing a meal, and working alongside them.

• Alas, another school year has come to a close. • We wish all the youth a fun and safe summer, we invite you to pursue

involvement in summer camp, and we look forward to seeing you again in the fall.

• The word that best describes our worship times together during April, May and June is CELEBRATION!

• Easter gives us so much to celebrate. A drama entitled “Who Killed Jesus?” took place on Good Friday. Many people were involved in the production, and it enabled us to consider Jesus’s actions, trials and crucifixion in a different light. At the end of the drama, Pastor Joe boldly reminded us that it’s Friday, but Sunday’s a’coming! We were all ready to celebrate on Easter Sunday morning! We spent time remembering Jesus’s love, shown through His sacrifice, and Jesus’s power and victory, shown in His resurrection.

• We continued to celebrate over the next weeks through our times of worshipping God together, taking communion, baptisms, a dedication of parents, praying for our high school graduates, and hearing about God’s work from a variety of speakers. We celebrated what God is doing through the mission organization Urban Promise as well as His work through our missionaries, Dave & Kathy Cook. The period ended with a rousing introduction to the summer camp, as we sang songs and heard about the plans for loving kids in our neighbourhood and introducing them to Jesus.

• The music team welcomed a new vocalist, Rui Kang. God’s gift of fellow servants is another reason to celebrate!

As we move into the fall, please pray that we at Richview would all draw nearer to God as we worship Him together, learning to more closely follow Him.

• Sunday Morning refreshments continue to be offered before and after the services, which has been well used. Helene Farrell continues to faithfully look after setup.

• Oven/Stove was replaced with industrial one. Does a great job with large gatherings. We also found a regular stove for the upstairs office kitchen for anyone doing smaller gatherings.

• Bonnie Maginn, Doreen Dennis, Alix Grubb, Betty Cowan, and several ladies from the residence have done a sensational job of reception, following up phone calls, mail, and receiving guests. They were an asset over the camp season.

• Inez Cann has stepped into the role of Special Events Coordinator. We are so excited to see her gifts at work in this area. She will work alongside ministries who are doing special events to encourage and guide and will bring much needed leadership to the overall calendar year and raising the bar of excellence with events.

• We continue to assist several people and families throughout the week who are living in shelters and dire circumstances with as much shepherding, and resources as we can muster.

• There are lots of people who come into the office each week for counsel and who we also meet offsite with.
