MINI VIVA VIDEO ANALYSISTheir debut single 'Left My Heart in Tokyo' - is a classic pop song which has good imaginative production, eccentric quirky lyrics and loads of diverse musical ideas held together by the magnetic pull of an instant pop chorus. The girls style looks good together and has lots of fresh, reviving energy, all of which comes across in their video.

It’s a mix between disco pop with a good bassline and some oriental sounds theSong really creates a good star image for the pop due their style is smart and trendy

Each cut in the video is fast paced and there are lots of close ups to keep the

audience engaged

The very eccentric video was directed by Ray Kay who also directed many other futuristicInspired videos for other artists. His style isDistinct and he managed to convey the popDuos style well through this video.

The video is very loud and in your face whichExaggerates the artists persona and the imageThey are trying to put across to the audience

The video is very reminiscent of the 80sWhich gives the video an extra edge, it alsoGives them a wider audience who will be Interested in their music because their styleIs diverse and can appeal to people who like80s music and disco pop.

The video has many elements to it everythingIs cut to the beat just when you think itsFinished it starts again, with the Japanese Samples makes it even more unique, the Hooks drop very fast and the pace of the songAnd video never drops.

Camera work• The camera work for this video is very fast

paced because it is a video/song that requires a dance routine therefore in order to grab the audience attention the video is very bright, fast paced, and the song has catchy lyrics.

VISUAL AND LYRICS & TEMPOThe video makes use of the tempo to drive the video editing, it not onlyDoes this it highlights the beats of the songs and how fast paced everythingIs in the video. There is certain emphasis on the link between the title of the song And the some aspects of the video e.g. I left my heart in Tokyo is in contrast With the part where they are standing there dancing and there is Chinese Writing in the background . The video does a good job of showing how important the artists are by providing lots of close ups,This allows us to see the Mise en scene of each and every scene, which helps create the whole idea of the pop genre and how it’s supposed to be.

Narrative

Its clear to see that the video is driven by the visuals and the lyrics don’t always tie in with the video. There is a story behind the videoEach Mise en scene shows different clips of Tokyo and it does a good job is showing of how life in Tokyo can be fast paced because it’s an ideologyWe have seen been shown in lost of Asian films. The idea is that is a big city and there is always something going on and you just have to keep up, the Video manages to show that.

GENRES & Iconography.• Pop tends to target the youth culture and

the target market for this particular song is for people between the ages of 15-20.

• Mini Viva’s record label wanted to focus on the three basic elements that a pop video should have. Lots of close up, vibrant clothes and catchy lyrics.

The main aim is for the group is to appeal to an audience And not a specific ideology or social group. Most pop videos usually have dance routinesThis helps engage the viewers, and its also a well known pop convention.

The genre of pop is very easy going and This video proves that. The fashion tends to be simple to follow.

The pop duo have established an iconography for themselves the vibrant theme isSomething they will gradually be knownfor.

REPRESENTATION

The pop duo have a positive image they have clean lyrics, dance Routines, and good fashion sense that their target market can follow.

“I left my heart in TokyoDown by the river don't you knowI had let it go”

The catchy lyrics.

They don’t portray themselves like how rap artists portray womenFrom their own videos, they have a fairer representation of women inThe music industry e.g. Artists like Madonna, Beyonce, Lady Gaga and their more realistic image thatYoung teenagers could follow. women in pop video’s are not exploited by the male gaze as much as other genres like Hip-pop.

Images of female bodies in Rap videos show explicit body parts for example enlarged breast and elongated legs,Flat stomachs etc. these images set the wrong idea to younger viewers especially young girls, they will have this idea thatBe excepted if they are skinny tall blonde, which leaves them insecure and putting their health at risk. Pop music tend to beMore realistic there image is much more clean and less exploited e.g. artists like Britney spear, Madonna, Beyonce, Joss Stone,Ciara, Rihanna, Natasha Bedingfield etc Below is some images that show how pop artists tend to look like in comparison to rapArtists video women.

The moreRealistic images

the UnrealisticView of women

Mini Viva “ left my heart in Tokyo” they videoIs a good representation of women and the pointsBelow prove it.

Ray Kay is the director of the two videos I have analysed e.g. “ Sean Paul So Fine”, and Mini Viva left my heart in Tokyo. I like his style and his use of special effectsTherefore I will take inspiration from some of his work. Ray Kay is a photographer and takes a great interest in his fashion and his love of both these things comes through his videos. The way the videos are shoot shows his photographic side which gives his work that extra edge. He has worked with many artists e.g. Cherly Cole, The Dream, Beyonce, Lady Gaga,

BELOW IS SOME SCREEN SHOTS OF THE TWO VIDEOS I HAVE ALREADY ANALYSEDTHEY SHOW SOME OF THE UNIQUE STYLE AND VISUAL TECHNIQUES I WOULD LIKE TO USEFOR MY OWN MUSIC VIDEO.

The visuals from these two video are similar they are reminiscent of e.g. a club scene which is something most people can easily relate to.

These lighting effects is something I would like to use for my own music video. They areVibrant and they are attention grabbing which is important.

Page 7: Mini Viva

RAY KAY HAS DIRECTED MANY VIDEOS AND HE DIRECTED SOME OF THE VIDEOS THAT I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE INSPARATION FROM WHEN MAKING MY OWN VIDEO. THE PICTURES ABOVE FROM TWO WELL KNOWN ARTISTS LADY GAGA ABD BEYONCE, THE CLIPS SHOW HOW RAY KAY USES HIS PHOTOGRAPHY SKILLS TO INCORPORATE IN OTHER PEOPLE VIDEOS AND AS YOU CAN SEE THE STYLE IS VERY SIMILAR TO THE VIDEOS I HAVE ALREADY ANALYISED “ SEAN PAUL SO FINE” AND MINI VIVA’S VIDEOS ARE ALSO VERY SIMILAR THAT’S HOW DIRECTORS MAKE THERE SIGNATURE, AND THAT’S HOW THEY ARE RECOGNISED.

THESE ARETHE TWO VIDEOSI HAVE ALREADYANALYSEDBOTHDIRECTEDBY RAYKAY WHO DIRECTED THETWO VIDEOSHOWN ABOVE.

The video by Mini Viva “ Left my heart in Tokyo”

I like it because of how vibrant it is, the use of lighting and Mise en scene is important because it draws the viewers in which is what I want for my video. Each scene is edited to make the artists persona look larger than it really is most record labels prefer to do this for their artists because it grabs the audiences attention and it makes them memorable to their new and old fans.

CONCLUSIONREPRESENTATION

Pop videos tend to represent women in much cleaner and realistic way than for Example hip-pop videos so therefore it is important that women have a fair representationWhen is comes to shooting my own video.

I also think its important that the lyrics and the visual make sense, when shooting my video I want it to have a story because some videos may be e.g. talking about love but on the other hand the video showsPeople in a club dancing or someone showing off their cars e.t.c. I want the lyrics and the visuals to relate to each other.

In hip-pop videosWomen are to exposedWhich is an element IDo not want for my own video

“hey girl what up?no im not gon make a scene.but you cant tie me down like a pair of shoe strings”

The lyrics relate and they actuallyShow was his saying visually.
