Abstract—Drivers fatigue is key hurdle in prevention of road accidents and life is on continuous threat due to this. The purpose of this comparative study was to establish key elements that general public usually follows in order to cop up with their drivers fatigue during trips. The study was done using data obtained from district Haripur and Peshawar. Statistical tools like Random sampling for data collection and frequency distribution for data representation is used.

Keywords— fatigue, Random sampling, frequency distribution

I. INTRODUCTION

Road accidents pose a great threat to humankind across the globe with costing about 3,200 lives every day. There are an estimated 10 million motor vehicle collisions worldwide in a calendar year. Road crashes in Pakistan remain a highly life threatening problem that needs a extensive and sound identification and remedial actions to be carried in order to put lives of common man out of this alarming situation which not only put their health at stake but also capability of earning their daily bread. Pakistan has got fifth ranking spot in list of countries with high ratio of road accidents. Number of deaths that were recorded in a calendar year due to road accidents was 40000 and this still increasing. One of the major causes of road crashes is Driver’s fatigue during their trips and its percentage is 18.1.The purpose of this comparative study was to highlight those remedial actions that people usually do in overwhelming their fatigue factor to avoid road crashes. The study carried out by collecting data from 80 specialized drivers and 10 less specialized drivers of different districts particularly Haripur and Peshawar. Frequency distribution of collected data samples depicted appreciable option that most people do in order to encounter their fatigue factor.

II. METHODS

Data collected from different sources from both specialized and less specialized drivers. Data from specialized drivers of long route was also collected using Random sampling technique of statistical tools. Data obtained from 90 different drivers varying age from 22 to 69 years. Data represented using pie charts to show extent of parentages of various actions that driver do off and on to counteract sleep at wheels. For data collection a check sheet formulated on which question asked was what you do in order to prevent your driving fatigue on trips? Following certain defined strategies like stopping to eat, stopping to rest, smoking, taking tea, taking marijuana, sprinkling water on face, listening to music/radio, opening windows etc.

III. RESULTS

A. Results from less specialized driver’s data

Response of 10 less specialized drivers with aid of pie chart for every action like stopping to eat, stopping to rest,

smoking etc that was proposed during study depicted percentages under figure 1 to 10 .

A. Results from highly specialized driver’s data

Data collected from highly specialized 80 drivers of long route when plotted using pie charts then results achieved from them are shown from figure 11 to 20.

IV. DISCUSSION

Results from both data analysis shows that majority of people whether they are drivers of long or short route theyStop to eat sometimes to cover up their driving fatigues with high percentage of 60 and 44.48 % of long route people stop to rest as compared to short routes who rarely stop for this.60% short routes drivers never sprinkle water on faces while 52% of long route drivers do this sometimes to remove their fatigue. Both short and long route drivers agree to never eating while driving. Short and long routes drivers use drinks containing caffeine often. Upon these results it is inferred that long route specialized drivers presents entirely different response to majority of action that were proposed to them for removing driving fatigue during trips.
