SWBAT determine the major causes of the French Revolution through analysis of primary source documents and will share their findings to other students. Together, students will establish the major causes of the French Revolution.

Think about the definition of revolution you came up with yesterday, and the examples we discussed. What usually causes Revolutions to occur?

Activities:

1. DO NOW: Walk around the room and stamp student work that is complete.2. Discussion of DO NOW. Place examples on Smartboard. Pivotal Questions: What are some

common ideas that link revolutions? (3 + 3) 3. Review what was completed yesterday. (3)4. Give students their JIGSAW teams Students sit with their new teams. (3)5. Activity 1: Students share out their findings from yesterday and complete the graphic

organizer. (13)6. Check for understanding: Which factor, political, social, and economic, do you think was most

responsible for causing the French Revolution, based on your discussion. (3)7. Activity 2: Hunt for Evidence! Tell students that buried in the documents are the 5 major

causes of the French Revolution. In their teams, students must find evidence that supports the cause they believe the document supports. They must find evidence in the document, find the enlarged document in the room, write on the document in one to two words what they think the cause is. Challenge students to also underline in the document where they found their evidence. Model this process for students using a level one document. (3 + 10)
